About the Sickle Cell Society (SCS)

The Sickle Cell Society (SCS) is the only national charity in the UK that supports and represents people affected by a sickle cell disorder. We provide information, advice and support to enable people to improve their overall quality of life. Over 18,500 people in the UK have a sickle cell disorder, an inherited condition that predominantly affects people of Black African and Black Caribbean heritage; and to a lesser extent people of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, South Asian and Central/South American heritage. 

Job Purpose:

To assist the Fundraising Manager in the delivery of the Sickle Cell Society’s (SCS) Fundraising Strategy and on-going development to achieve its fundraising priorities and targets. An exciting and varied role we are seeking a strong team player, and someone with the confidence and initiative to help develop and grow charitable income. The post holder will be someone with a ‘cando’ attitude and the enthusiasm to want to learn and get things done. We are a small, friendly and closely knit team of 20 skilled and highly committed staff and over 50 active volunteers.

The post-holder will work closely with the Fundraising Manager, and wider team to provide an engaging supporter journey and timely, efficient donor care to existing and new supporters of the Society. Responsible for helping the team meet our agreed income targets for celebratory giving, challenge events, community fundraising and corporate payroll giving initiatives.; the post-holder will be keen on developing their Fundraising career and interested in expanding their use of CRM databases, data management and the production of reports for effective donor stewardship.

You will be responsible for the membership and donors’ database (Beacon) keeping up to date and reporting back on results, whilst ensuring data compliance and implementation of data. You will be highly proficient in the use of business IT systems in particular Microsoft Excel to analyse data, and you will also have at least one year’s experience, or equivalent, in producing detailed and insightful reports.

The post-holder will be a confident communicator and collaborator with proven relationship building and creative and innovative fundraising skills. You will also support the development of our fundraising communications, monitoring performance across all channels driving best practice and income growth. You will generate and develop engaging fundraising communications and be responsible for your own copywriting, including thanking our wonderful donors via the most appropriate communication channels. 

This varied role will give you the opportunity to further your fundraising skills across a broad range of income generating activities as well as build strong, professional relationships to benefit the SCS’ charitable objectives.

Role Summary

The Finance Officer will support the Finance and Operations team and regional teams with key areas of responsibility around financial administration and general office and governance administration tasks.

Role and responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

Financial Administration - (95% of role):

Supporting the Finance team with

o Day-to-day financial administration

o Bookkeeping on Xero, raising invoices, chasing debtors, dealing with supplier statements

o Ensuring correct VAT categorisations.

o Tracking expenditure on Xero in accordance with funder requirements

o Processing monthly expenses and petty cash claims

o Responsible for preparation of the weekly payment run (approval max and Xero)

o Day-to-day financial administration

o Banking of cheques

o Managing control accounts for CAF, Charities trust, and Justgiving

o Managing shopify, worldpay, stripe, paypal and other payment processing platforms

o Organising card machines for events

Administration: (5% of role)

Some tasks listed below are less frequent and ad-hoc.

o Opening post and electronic filing

o Weekly franking of post, topping up funds when required and taking post to nearby post office

o Supporting the Director of Finance and Operations with preparation of board and audit committee papers and materials, minutes and actions

3. Establish a robust donor stewardship strategy, building strong relationships with existing  and potential donors and increasing donor retention and engagement 
4. Lead on the cultivation and stewardship of partnerships with churches. 
5. To manage the direction and relationship with our Trust and Foundation consultants by collaborating in the research, writing and submitting targeted Trust applications and report on grants awarded. 
6. Work with the team to support the legacy giving strategy, to maximise long-term income. 
7. To have oversight of the in-house CRM database (Microsoft D365). Work with the team to develop competency in the effective use of our CRM database as part of our donor stewardship and reporting structure. 
8. To assist and promote ICCs presence at fundraising and other events.

The Role

The Employer

The British Society for Haematology (BSH) is the largest UK multidisciplinary Haematology Society with over 3,000 members. Our activities include running education events and courses (including our flagship Annual Scientific Meeting held in April), producing guidelines, awarding grants, and raising the profile of haematology.

The Role

The main role of the BSH Guidelines is to provide haematologists with up-to-date advice on the diagnosis and treatment of haematological disease and on laboratory haematology practice, primarily by the production of evidence-based guidelines.

The co-ordination and commissioning of the required guidelines is administered by the Guidelines Team, overseen by the Guidelines Executive Committee; and carried out by four Task Forces, each responsible for a specialist area: blood transfusion, haemostasis & thrombosis, haemato-oncology and general haematology.  In addition, each Task Force oversees 10-14 Writing Groups, who develop BSH guidance.

The post-holder supports the Guidelines Team, including coordination of activities of the volunteer groups and supporting liaison with external groups and organisations.

The Taskforce for Lung Health (the secretariat for which is provided by Asthma + Lung UK) is a collaboration of the largest ever group of organisations and individuals who have come together, as a team, to improve lung health. Our primary goal is to elevate the importance of lung health within the NHS. The Taskforce has over 50 members including patients, carers, healthcare professionals, the voluntary sector and professional associations. An Industries Forum working alongside the Taskforce includes representatives from the pharmaceutical, diagnostics, devices and digital industries. 

Senior Policy and Engagement Officer – Taskforce for Lung Health

This role will support the Taskforce to deliver its ambitious programme of activity for 2026, working collaboratively with members and partners to deliver meaningful change for people with respiratory conditions.  You will lead and drive forward Taskforce policy and influencing work across priority areas, producing high-quality evidence-based outputs, working in collaboration with Taskforce members and partners, including patients, clinicians, other charities and corporate partners. You will develop the Taskforce’s engagement strategy, identifying opportunities to increase engagement and harness the potential of our collective endeavours to drive improvements in care for people with respiratory conditions, building strong working relationships with key stakeholders. This role can be either Office based or Remote based.

Senior Policy Officer – Asthma + Lung UK

Reporting to the Health Policy Manager, you will carry out proactive policy and influencing work across a range of health policy areas related to NHS services, treatment and care for lung conditions. You will work closely with other policy team members to influence change, and draft impactful policy positions and recommendations, using research, patient experience, clear analysis and strong arguments. You will work with a range of important external stakeholders, building strong relationships and influencing positive change. This role is Office based only.

You will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, strong relationship management skills, and the ability to plan and prioritise your workload efficiently. You will have experience of developing robust policy positions and campaigning for policy change. The Development and Advocacy Department are looking to appoint an interim Development Assistant on a part-time basis. This role will provide general administrative support to the Fundraising Appeals and Membership teams; including but not limited to supporting the Membership phone lines for incoming membership and ticketing queries, manage the fundraising inbox for incoming donation messages, assisting with ticket allocations for Patron members during their priority booking period and writing meaningful thank you letters to donors to appeals.

The ideal candidate will have strong verbal communication skills and a helpful manner, with an enthusiasm for and the ability to communicate fluently about the artistic work of the RBO. They will be a team player, who can quickly build relationships with colleagues and guests. You will have:

• Strong written communication skills across email, digital and print channels
• Excellent face-to-face and telephone communication skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with donors, members, and stakeholders
• Experience working with databases, including accurate data entry and extracting data for mail merges and reports
• A commitment to delivering a first-rate experience to supporters (transferable customer service experience will be highly regarded)
• The ability and interest to gain an understanding of UK fundraising landscape, fundraising methods and processes
• Experience of processing Direct Debits (desirable)

The Fostering Recruitment Officer will have a varied and interesting role working flexibly, including evenings and weekends, organising a variety of events, peer support groups, and promotional opportunities amongst local communities. Overall Duties of the Fostering Recruitment Officer will include:

• Working collaboratively with the team to progress fostering enquiry management
• Support community recruitment activity to create a consistent pipeline of carer applicants
