About us

The Asylum Reform Initiative (ARI) is an alliance of nine leading national organisations collaborating to secure deep change towards a fair, compassionate and well-managed UK approach to refugees. Central to its strategy has been incubating, launching and backing the broader, public-facing Together With Refugees campaign coalition, now with over 600 national and local member groups from across the refugee sector and beyond. The ARI team provides a dynamic hub that supports Together With Refugees, coordinating the development and delivery of the coalition’s campaign strategy.

About the role

This is a new role. Working closely with the rest of the ARI team, One Strong Voice, and the newly formed Together With Refugees Steering Group, it will play a key part in shaping and delivering the ambitious next phase of the Together With Refugees strategy. The Deputy Director will lead on movement building, strengthening the coalition, and developing the reach, activation levels and effectiveness of the coalition’s grassroots campaign organising to secure changes in policy and practice. At the heart of this is the engagement and leadership of activists with lived experience as refugees, and of member groups that are led by and for refugees – so advancing the goal of a transition to leadership by people with lived experience across the coalition. Key to this work will be building the capacity, effectiveness and impact of the One Strong Voice network to support lived experience campaigners, organisations and leaders at all levels. The Deputy Director will also contribute to wider leadership of the team’s work including fundraising, support for – and accountability to – coalition leadership structures, and effective delivery of the team’s work programme.

About you

The Deputy Director will be a natural collaborator and relationship builder, able to work with diplomacy to drive forward our ambitious strategic aims. You will need ambition, energy and an ability to work at both strategic and more detailed levels. This could be the right opportunity for a range of potential candidates. You could be someone who has led and managed in other issues-based settings, in the asylum and refugee sector, or more broadly. Main Roles

• To provide advice and casework at OISC/ IAA Level 2 on immigration, nationality and asylum law.
• To provide supervision to Immigration Volunteers

Specific Duties

• Manage a complex caseload across the field of immigration, nationality and asylum law.
• Adhere to casework procedures as outlined in LRMN’s policies, the IAA standards and the Advice Quality Standards (AQS).
• Interview and advise clients regarding immigration and asylum law procedure, and practice in a sensitive and professional manner.
• Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with IAA registration or similar professional body, e.g SRA.
• Keep up to date at all times with changes in the law by reading and attending training events relating to asylum and immigration.

The DAPO Project Manager will work closely with the DAPO Programme Manager and SafeLives Finance Manager to support the successful delivery of the programme and maintain effective commissioning relationships with service providers across each pilot area. People facing decades of prison time often completely lose connection with their family and friends on the outside. Are you passionate about creating impactful events and driving fundraising success? We're looking for an Events Manager, to develop and deliver innovative products and propositions that engage and mobilise individuals to fundraise for BHF.

As the Event Manager, you will oversee the development and end-to-end delivery of our product portfolio. This includes planning, marketing, the online journey, stewardship, on-the-day delivery, and evaluation.

Key areas of focus: 

• AJ Bell Great Run Series Partnership (60%):
  • Lead the delivery of BHF's official charity partnership with the AJ Bell Great Run Series 2025.
  • Collaborate with AJ Bell, Great Runs Company, and BHF teams to maximise fundraising, brand visibility, and PR opportunities.
• Virtual and Mass Participation Growth (40%):
  • Support the Product Delivery Team in driving growth and innovation.
  • Work with the Senior Product Manager to develop new products and enhance the existing portfolio.
  • Focus on product optimisation, life cycle management, exit strategies, and new product development to maximise ROI.

You'll effectively collaborate with other expert functions across the organisation is to ensure that activities are well planned, and project managed to meet/exceed financial and non-financial targets.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you bring experience of strategically developing and delivering mass participation events and activities to achieve growth ideally within a fundraising capacity.

With an excellent understanding of marketing techniques (especially digital) and knowledge of a broad range of innovative fundraising activities and principles, you have experience of managing and developing a diverse product portfolio. Using customer, market and financial data and insight you can make decisions to drive long term growth.

A strategic thinker with expertise managing commercial projects who can achieve objectives through analytical insights. You are agile and responsive to both internal and external factors with a knowledge of new and emerging technologies and trends in the events fundraising space. You also have the ability to interpret customer, market and financial data and insight to inform recommendations.

An excellent communicator and project manager, comfortable with juggling multiple, often conflicting priorities you'll work in matrix style across two key areas of the team.

Working arrangements

This is a 12-month fixed term contract. 
 
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

At BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on hybrid contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average. 

This position involves travel throughout the UK and occasional weekend working for event delivery (approximately 5 weekends per year). Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) will be provided for weekend work.

About the role

We are seeking a proactive and organised Finance Officer to join our small, friendly team for 1 day per week (0.2 FTE) on a permanent basis. This is a hybrid role, offering a mix of home and occasional office-based working from our base in Hackney. 

Reporting to the Director, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and accurate management of our finances. You will be responsible for bookkeeping, financial reporting, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity to utilise your finance skills within a supportive environment where your contribution will have a direct impact. 

We’re looking for an experienced finance administrator or officer with a strong understanding of bookkeeping and financial reporting, ideally within a charity, social enterprise or small business. You’ll possess exceptional numerical skills, a keen eye for detail, and excellent organisational and time management abilities. You’ll also be a proactive problem-solver with a warm and friendly communication style and the ability to work collaboratively within a small team.

The Marketing & Communications Manager is a brand-new position which will sit on the Museum’s Management Board and be involved in site-wide decision making and realising the aims of the Trusts.

We are looking for a dynamic and creative individual with a background in marketing and communications to help us engage with new audiences, raise visibility and generate footfall and income. This position is ideal for someone ready to take the next step into a managerial role, or an experienced professional seeking a new challenge.

Working with all members of the museum team the post holder will provide support to make sure everyone’s marketing needs are met and that Exhibitions and Learning activities are properly promoted. As a new paid position this is an exciting opportunity to put your stamp on the role.

Overall Purpose

• To manage the development and delivery of the HRM Marketing & Communications Strategy
• To develop a comprehensive marketing plan covering all areas of the Museum’s activity (including Exhibitions, Learning, Retail)
• To engage and develop new and current audiences, ensuring that messaging is relevant and accurate and making sure that all areas of the Museum are appropriately represented.
• To develop and deliver communication and marketing plans, managing multiple campaigns and channels of communication. Realise new and maintain current marketing opportunities for the organisation.
• To promote the Museum’s brand and build its reputation locally, regionally and, where appropriate, nationally.
• To manage relationships with relevant partners such as press, local cultural partners, freelance consultants, trustees and other stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategy, insight and evaluation

• Work with the Evaluation Team to gain visitor insight data that can be fed into the marketing strategy for the museum
• Deliver, with support from trustees, the marketing and communications strategy, including branding, managing social accounts, distribution and display of print marketing and creating newsletters
• Manage, deliver and monitor engaging integrated and audience-led marketing campaigns and communications that grow visitor numbers and revenue for the museum
• Support the development of business strategies, understanding the key objectives of the organisation and all activity being undertaken
• Report regularly on marketing activity across all channels, including collating press coverage, reviewing website data, social media reach and make recommendations for improvements and implement where necessary.

Press, print and design

• Develop and maintain relationships with press organisations and freelancers to distribute exhibition press releases as appropriate
• Provide regular listings to media and listing platforms, locally and regionally
• Manage design work ensuring brand and communication cohesion across campaigns.
• Prepare and supervise the production (with external suppliers where necessary) of promotional communications to include design and print of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photography.
• Work with colleagues to support promotion of Exhibition and Learning programmes and enhance visibility of the museum through signage and wayfinding.

Digital (website, social media, e-newsletters)

• Oversee the creation and implementation of all HRM digital content, covering website, social media and email marketing; ensuring engaging and accessible copy, correct data management, and monitoring and responding to customer enquiries, where applicable.
• Work with colleagues in Retail, Learning and Exhibitions to ensure effective promotion of activities across digital platforms.
• Stay up to date on digital trends and ensure the museum is making the most of opportunities for digital engagement.

Other

• Manage a small team of marketing volunteers and chair regular meetings of the Marketing Committee.
• Attend monthly Management Board meetings (currently hybrid) and contribute to regular team meetings.
• Work with colleagues across the organisation to understand and support their marketing and communications needs.
• Manage a marketing and communications budget.
• Carry out other reasonable duties that may be required.

Person Specification

Essential

• Demonstrable marketing and communications experience
• Evidence of delivering successful marketing communications campaigns across print and digital channels
• Confident managing your own workload and prioritising tasks to meet deadlines
• Ability to manage and update websites
• Proven track record of creating engaging digital content
• An eye for detail and good design
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills
• Ability to work in a small team, and to maintain strong and effective working relationships with volunteers and colleagues.

Other Information

• Annual leave entitlement is 28 days, pro-rata, including Bank Holidays, taken by mutual agreement with the Museum Manager.
• The post holder is expected to work in the office 2 days a week and can work remotely 1 day a week.
• A staff appraisal system is used, with a performance review annually.
• The post is subject to a 6 month probation period.
• Two months' notice of resignation must be given.
