We are currently looking for an Academic Training and Development Lead at the Francis Crick Institute. In this role you’ll work alongside the Head of Academic Programmes, to design and deliver innovative, inclusive training programmes for our PhD students and postdocs, supporting the next generation of scientific leaders. Leading a small team, you will work closely with colleagues across the Crick and our university partners to ensure our training offer reflects the evolving needs of interdisciplinary research.

From launching new frameworks to enhancing existing programmes, your work will directly support a positive and forward-thinking research culture. This role is ideal for someone with a strong scientific background, experience in researcher development, and a genuine commitment to empowering early-career scientists.

What you will be doing

• Provide support to the Head of Academic Programmes to deliver the Crick PhD and Postdoc programmes
• Design and implement, alongside the Academic Training and Career Development Project Manager, a new Crick Postdoc Development Framework
• Lead, develop, motivate and performance manage the Academic Training and Career Development Project Manager to deliver their objectives
• Identify and consider the development of new science training and researcher development programmes for Crick PhD students and postdocs
• Evaluate Crick science training activities, refining to ensure that they are effective, current and support cutting edge research
• Ensure effective communication and consultation at relevant committees (e.g. Training & Career Development Committee, Postdoc Committee, PhD student committee)
• Scoping and investigating training and development activities provided by the Crick’s partners and other institutions, to identify opportunities for collaboration
• Lead on projects and work with the broader academic training team, the Crick Academy team and the People team, in other areas as required
• Lead on the continuous delivery of Vitae’s Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers at the Crick

What you will bring

(Minimum criteria *)

• Experience of working at a senior level in a dynamic scientific environment and higher education/research setting*
• Proven advanced skills in facilitation and/or teaching in a research or academic setting*
• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the management, training and development of staff in research and technology groups, preferably through experience
• Educated to PhD level and with post-PhD experience in a science discipline, or relevant, significant experience*
• Experience in leading the design and successful delivery of scientific training and development activities*
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of academic and professional colleagues
• Proven ability to work successfully with multiple stakeholders across a complex organisation.

Our Little Stars project for 0–12 year olds has been established for over 3 years supporting younger members and their families with their diagnosis and beyond. We also have a growing Teen membership known as FIRE (Friendship, Independence, Resilience, Equality) Working alongside our multi skilled, established team, you will be supporting members across all age groups and building on the great foundations already in place.

We are looking for a Football Development Officer to support the delivery of TeamUCL's new focus sport, football. The role combines football delivery with desk-based sports administration and student engagement. We are looking for someone passionate about developing football in all forms - from running beginner friendly sessions to working with students to co-create community volunteering projects.

Location: Our central office in Islington, just a 10 minute walk from Highbury & Islington station. About the role

We have an exiting opportunity for a Training Facilitator to join our Talent Development team, part of the wider People and Culture team here at SIG! In this role, you’ll oversee and deliver our specialised training programmes for our staff, residents, participants, and external parties. You'll be at the heart of the full training journey including research training needs, designing and developing training content and delivering sessions both in person and online. No two days are the same.

Job Title: Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist

Salary: up to £39,500 per annum

Contract: Full time, Fixed Term Contract until October 2027 (potential of extension, subject to the availability of project funding).

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a postgraduate-level researcher who wishes to combine their expertise in education research and astute understanding of real-life classroom practice. While the role will sit within the Chartered College of Teaching, the postholder will also receive mentoring from Professor Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-Life Learning at the University of Winchester, providing a rare opportunity to combine academically rigorous research with real-life application. As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.

Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.

This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes. You will:

• rapidly review evidence of assessment methods and pedagogies designed to cultivate knowledge, skills and dispositions of pupils, identifying gaps
• with support, produce evidence synthesis for a small number of key methods, not currently widely used by teachers
• manage a portfolio of online events aimed at developing teachers’ and school leaders’ levels of assessment literacy
• co-ordinate the work of the Next Generation Assessment group
• create online resources for the Chartered College member platform relating to evidence-informed teaching and assessment.

The postholder will also be required to collate policy announcements around assessment and monitor any developments relating to the use of EdTech and AI for assessment. The ultimate aim of this work is to help illustrate that the common ‘trad’ versus ‘prog’ debates that still dominate many discussions in education are ultimately unhelpful and teachers need a wide range of different teaching approaches to help support a range of intended learning outcomes. This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes.

Skills and experience

Essential

• Postgraduate qualification in Education or a relevant field
• Experience conducting rapid evidence reviews relating to teaching, learning and assessment
• Experience of teaching in schools in the UK or internationally
• Experience producing content for a range of audiences including teachers, school leaders and policymakers
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of effective, evidence-informed approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment
• Experience developing and managing an online portfolio of events and resources
• Experience managing and chairing meetings, including the production of written summaries of discussions for a wide range of audiences

Desirable

• A PhD in a relevant field
• Experience presenting complex information in a concise, graphic format
• Experience working with Canva, InDesign or other graphic design software
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Experience writing grant applications

Regenerate runs a thriving and well established mentoring and employment services for 16 – 25’s. This comprises of two areas:

1. Mentoring for young people who are experiencing a range of social and emotional challenges and barriers to employment, and

2) Employment at Feel Good (Regenerate’s social enterprise).

Feel Good is a coffee shop business Regenerate established to train, employ and mentor young people aged 16-25 who are not in education employment or training (NEET), have experienced disadvantage, or are at risk of exploitation. Also, for every
coffee sold we provide a meal for a child in one of our partner services in Africa or Eastern Europe.

Regenerate and Feel Good are within an exciting period of growth in size and impact as a charity, and this role plays a pivotal part; coordinating and delivering mentoring support and development opportunities for young people employed in the business, as well as those within the community who are in need of support.
