Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has expertise in developing influential media campaigns and shares our compassion and commitment to deliver positive outcomes for nature. You will be a highly organised, motivated, curious and creative individual who is comfortable working on integrated communications and PR campaigns and working with stakeholders from across the organisation to find the story.

You will have strong influencing and networking skills, always searching for new and inventive ways to shout about Plantlife and grow our audience. You will be detail orientated and adept at managing multiple projects at once.

What will you be doing?

This is a key role within our dedicated communications team and will focus on leveraging and shaping Plantlife’s activity and presence in the media, alongside a job share colleague. You will support the Head of Communications and Engagement with the leadership, planning and delivery of Plantlife’s media strategy to raise awareness, engage stakeholders and drive support for our cause.

This role will support our campaigning activity in the UK and internationally and will be one of Plantlife key external voices, playing a pivotal role in shaping our key messages. Working across the organisation and with colleagues leading our conservation, advocacy, and partnerships work you will keep abreast of key organisational activities and create opportunities for media and campaigning.

We are offering the role as hybrid or home based. We have offices in Salisbury or Retford. There will be an expectation of some travel to attend monthly team meetings

As Senior PR Manager, you will play a crucial role in raising the profile of Save the Children UK amongst key target audiences, by developing and delivering projects that command media attention and coverage. As a member of the PR, Artist & Broadcast team, you will be able to apply your experience working with the media to shape major fundraising and influencing campaigns and build our brand. Some stakeholders you will work with include high profile ambassadors, influencers, and partners. In this role, you will:

• Work closely with team members in other departments within Save the Children to provide excellent PR support for delivering Save the Children's objectives
• Develop and execute mass-market PR plans that amplify key strategic campaigns and initiatives across the calendar year, including brand, fundraising and advocacy priorities
• Identify and maximise opportunities to generate reactive media coverage, responding effectively to external events, news and the cultural conversation 
• Write, co-ordinate and issue media releases, statements, briefing materials and Q&As, including for high-profile spokespeople and corporate partners, if required 
• Develop and nurture close working relationships with journalists (especially those on features, women's, lifestyle, showbiz outlets) across print, digital and broadcast media - including a diverse range of outlets beyond mainstream media
• Represent Save the Children as spokesperson externally, networking and building relationships that support brand building activity in the media.

About you

To be successful, it is important that you have:

• Significant operational experience in mass-market PR, as a print or broadcast journalist, or equivalent professional media communications experience
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external contacts across diverse cultures, disciplines and time zones
• Solid experience developing and implementing PR campaigns for corporate clients, including cause-related events, co-branded marketing activity, global campaigns
• Excellent working knowledge of the media landscape – including national broadcast and press, women's, showbiz, tabloid and digital media – with a network of journalistic contacts.
• Excellent writing skills, including the ability to write and edit engaging copy for a range of audiences, across traditional and new mediums
• Ability to do ‘on call' rota work at weekends and out of hours

About the role 

We're looking for a highly motivated and skilled Bid Manager who can actively craft commercial tender submissions and work with the team to ensure we submit high-quality, winning bids within UK government procurement rules.

You will sit in the Business and Strategy directorate and lead bid-writing across the organisation, line-managing a team of Bid Writers and working closely with other colleagues across Business Development, Marketing and Operations.

The role

The Senior PR and Press Officer will raise the voice and impact of the CIPD in media and wider communications activities in pursuit of its core purpose of championing better work and working lives

What you’ll be doing

• Managing incoming media enquiries, ensuring journalists receive a prompt and efficient response and briefing spokespeople to help turn incoming enquiries into opportunities to proactively communicate key messages.
• Maximising media coverage to support the CIPD’s strategic priorities and our research, policy and campaign agenda. This will involve regularly translating policy matters and research findings into accessible news stories that will resonate with different stakeholder audiences.
• Being part of a wider team, which creates and delivers integrated marketing communications campaigns. You will have responsibility for managing the media element of certain campaigns.
• Building and maintaining relationships with trade media, national and broadcast journalists as part of our busy and respected press office. You will also work closely with the editorial team that manage our CIPD magazines: People Management and Work.
• Working with the PR Manager, Head of Marketing Communications, and wider team to protect and enhance the reputation of the CIPD.
• Supporting communications colleagues in our regional and international offices.
• Ensuring that the CIPD’s online media centre is an up-to-date resource for the media, CIPD members and other visitors to the website, and that press releases are distributed in a timely way.
• Proactively placing and writing articles for a variety of media and ensuring all articles from CIPD spokespeople are consistent with the CIPD’s key messages.
• Being part of the team that plan and run the on-site press offices for our annual conferences.
• Building strong working relationships with third party stakeholders, including commercial and strategic partners.

What you’ll need to be successful

• An excellent writer and communicator, able to create compelling copy for a range of audiences and channels.
• Extensive experience and knowledge in media relations.
• Strong awareness of media with good contacts in the national media.
• Able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, juggling competing deadlines and shifting priorities at short notice.
• Ability to provide consultancy to the rest of the organisation, including the senior management team.
• A real team player, able to build relationships with teams across the business.
• Able to represent the organisation when working with media and other stakeholders.
• Has a good understanding of using social media channels to further our key messages and ensure that traditional and social media activities are aligned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Significant experience of working closely with high-profile individuals and talent managers to deliver meaningful engagement. 
• Previous experience of successfully creating and executing a strategy for enhancing a brand through engaging celebrities and high-profile individuals 
• Experience of utilising audience insight and landscape awareness to identify suitable celebrities/influencers to enhance our brand development. 
• Experience of working within the not-for-profit sector 
• A collaborative, creative style with excellent written and verbal communication skills

 About the Role 

• Lead the implementation of a celebrity strategy and engagement plan to establish, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with high profile individuals
• Work with the Brand & Communications and Fundraising teams to proactively identify and grow relationships with talent that broadens our reach as a charity 
• Develop creative concepts which can be used to engage celebrities and amplify their involvement across multiple channels and platforms. Draft briefing notes for celebrities, quotes and press releases about their activity. 
• Review existing relationships with high profile supporters and assess where there are opportunities to leverage these relationships to help deliver St John strategic messages.

Role Summary    

This exciting role will enable Alcohol Change UK to reach millions of people across the UK with key messages about alcohol and alcohol harm, delivered through print, online, and broadcast media engagement tactics. With a high level of existing press interest in our work and campaigns (including our flagship Dry January® campaign), this is an exciting moment as we look to develop our proactive media engagement and share reframed stories about alcohol which resonate with a huge audience. Your work will drive significant awareness of our organisation, and ultimately enable millions of people to transform their relationship with alcohol.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities    

Media engagement  

• Manage the organisation’s media inbox and phone line, handling enquiries from journalists and providing responses in a timely manner

• Provide regular out of hours media cover on a rota basis (scaling depending on busier campaign periods, shared fairly with others and TOIL provided for hours worked)

• Develop public media statements and quotes across the whole spectrum of Alcohol Change UK’s work, issuing to press both reactively and proactively

• Provide ongoing development of our key lines library, regularly reviewing responses we have on file for a range of topics 

• Support Alcohol Change UK spokespeople (Chief Executive, Directors and others) prepare for interviews: developing tailored briefings ahead of opportunities, providing a sounding board to rehearse key lines when required and giving feedback on appearances to support ongoing development

• Manage our media database and reporting tools, providing regular condensed reports for the Director of Communications and Marketing/CEO/Board and develop insights-gathering to better inform our media engagement strategy

• With the Director of Communications and Marketing, play a key role in media crisis management, escalating issues as appropriate, suggesting solutions and developing organisational responses to sensitive situations

• Support the deployment of Alcohol Change UK voices, working closely with the Engagement Team to identify Community Champions, Ambassadors and others who are happy to be supported to share their experiences of alcohol and alcohol harm with the media

Developing a new proactive media strategy  

• Plan and deliver a new strategy for generating proactive media coverage, where Alcohol Change UK’s research, campaigns, parliamentary and wider activity connect with larger audiences in a strategic way

• Working closely with teams across the organisation, craft compelling media plans and press releases to generate coverage of our work

• Bring fresh energy to opportunity spotting, securing opinion pieces, expert comment, letters to editors and other ‘newsjacking’ content – particularly on ‘culture change’ topics such as sober shaming and stigma 

• Manage relationships with key journalists in our sector, exploring opportunities for partnerships and exclusives

Campaign media activity  

• Particularly for our flagship Dry January® campaign, and with the support of the Director of Communications and Marketing, develop media support briefs for external media agencies, when required 

• Develop fresh strategies and media angles for annual campaigns (Dry January®, Sober Spring, Alcohol Awareness Week) to keep activity engaging for public and returning audiences

• Think creatively to craft media strategies which are tailored to reach segmented audience groups, aligning with targets for individual campaigns to reach under-served communities 

• Provide detailed campaign media evaluations, insights and learning reports
