In this Deputy Head of HR role, you will lead our Business Partnering & Advisory function by developing the HR Business Partnering model, managing a team of HR professionals, and ultimately embedding excellent people management practice across the organisation. You will also have a direct business partnering relationship with Relate at Family Action; providing strategic advice, coaching and operational HR support to senior managers, to support culture change post-merger.

Orbis UK is delighted to offer the role of HR and Governance Manager, a new position for the charity, as the organisation seeks to grow and build on past successes to reach its target of achieving £10m income in the next 5 years.

This role is critical to supporting a highly performing group of staff and trustees as we seek to transform lives through the prevention and treatment of blindness. This role will sit within the Business Support Team, which is responsible for the day to day running of the organisation and will be crucial in creating a revised HR strategy and ensuring that the organisation’s compliance with key statutory and regulatory requirements are maintained at all times. The successful postholder will work collaboratively with the Director of Finance and Operations to meet these objectives, but also will have a central role in identifying opportunities for growth within the HR and Governance function to ensure that good practice, wellbeing and compliance work hand in hand with one another and is embedded within the ethos of the organisation for the benefit of its staff and, ultimately, our beneficiaries.

You will be privy to sensitive and confidential information, attending meetings in order to take summary minutes and provide clerking services, including the issuing of papers, monitoring Companies House and Charity Commission requirements and acting as counsel to the Senior Management Team and the Board, where appropriate.

You will line manage and work with the Business Support Administrator, also a new post, that will provide support to you and the wider staff team. The recruitment of both these posts simultaneously provides a unique opportunity to a new postholder to shape this role and set out the strategy for this directorate and take ownership of demonstrable change within the organisation.

We are looking for someone who has a Level 5 CIPD or equivalent qualification with demonstrable experience in supporting and developing a HR strategy and/or working at an EA level working with senior executives across different sectors. The clinical adoption of AI is becoming a central issue in medicine, and our specialities of radiology and oncology are at the forefront of this development. We are seeking an experienced and diligent HR Manager to work with staff and volunteers at our established Christian recovery centre in Berkshire. This role is based at our Head Office in Finsbury Park with some flexibility to work from home for one day per week after a successful probation period.

We’re looking for an experienced, people focused HR Adviser (we call this role a People and Culture Adviser at ISHA) to join our small team and play a key role in delivering high quality, generalist HR support across ISHA.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you’ll work closely with managers and colleagues, providing sound advice across the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to employee relations, performance management, policy implementation and learning & development. You’ll be a trusted adviser, confidently balancing best practice with a pragmatic, solutions focused approach while using sound judgement skills.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced HR professional to join our small, but supportive, People and Culture Team working on all aspects of generalist HR advice and support. You should be a resilient, professionally curious person who enjoys working independently as well as part of a small team.

You will work closely with the Head of People and Culture in a generalist capacity, to support with continuous improvement across all areas of P&C work, while helping to support and achieve our organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing first-line, advisory support to managers on a wide range of ER matters, including disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence and performance.
• Independently managing ER casework end-to-end, ensuring outcomes are fair, consistent and legally compliant.
• Supporting recruitment and selection activity, including advising on job design and interviews.
• Coordinating onboarding and probation processes, helping new starters feel supported and role-ready from day one.
• Assisting with the development, review and implementation of HR policies and procedures aligned to acas best practice.
• Maintaining accurate HR records and supporting reporting using our HR system, Cezanne.
• Contributing to organisational projects such as wellbeing, engagement, EDI and culture.

We are seeking a proactive and committed individual with strong interpersonal skills who can provide an excellent, customer-focused service to employees, managers, and senior leaders. This is a busy and varied role, so we’re looking for someone who likes working in a fast-paced environment while ensuring consistency and accuracy alongside considering and minimising risks.

We need you to come with:

• Proven experience in a generalist HR role.
• Solid working knowledge of UK employment law and confidence handling ER cases.
• Confidence in advising and influencing managers at different levels.
• Excellent communication skills, with a professional, empathetic and nonjudgemental approach.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• CIPD qualification (or working towards), or equivalent experience.

About the Role
