We operate in the UK, France and Greece, promoting and protecting rights through legal support, casework, litigation, engagement, training and partnerships. We advocate for safe migration and oppose discriminatory immigration systems and policies.

RLS has held a legal aid contract in the UK since 2023. 

About the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative (APBI)

The Afghan Pro Bono Initiative is a specialist casework project delivered by RLS with funding and pro bono assistance from 14 leading commercial law firms. It is a project delivered in partnership with SPI. 

Firm pro bono lawyers are trained and supervised by the project’s two full-time supervising lawyers so that they can then assist with legal casework.

APBI has two core components. The team delivers legal information and support to and within the Afghan community, working together with the Community Engagement and Research Lead to ensure wide access. While the project also provides high quality legal representation in a range of cases for this community. This includes family reunion, the ARAP scheme, the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme and others. 

APBI then aims to respond to the increased need for legal information, advice and representation of Afghan nationals and their family members forced to seek protection and reunion with family in the United Kingdom following the Taliban takeover. The project is now going into its 3rd year, and won the Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership Award at the Law Works Pro Bono Awards in 2022 as well as being nominated and commended for numerous other awards in 2022 and 2023. 

The casework of this project feeds into strategic research, policy and advocacy efforts to make existing ‘safe’ routes to protection (in particular refugee family reunion and resettlement schemes) more accessible and effective, advocate for their expansion and defend the fundamental rights of people on the move by influencing policy and decision making. 

Litigation arising out of the project is actively pursued (where eligible) under RLS’s legal aid contract to push for better decision-making, secure results for individuals and pursue improvements in the relevant law, policy and practices. 

RLS recognise that pro bono legal work is always an adjunct to, and not a substitute for, an adequate system of publicly funded legal services. 

Key responsibilities and objectives

The post holder will be a staff member of Refugee Legal Support. They will be a participant within the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative project team, which comprises two lawyers (the other being at SPI), a coordinator and a Community Engagement and Research Lead in addition to the volunteer lawyers from the individual commercial firm partners. 
 

Key responsibilities

• Manage a small caseload and provide high quality legal advice and representation to clients;

• Supervise the work of volunteer pro bono commercial lawyers on cases;

• Deliver training to pro bono commercial lawyers;

• Ensure that all legal work is promptly and accurate recorded on RLS’s case management system and keep relevant time recording; 

• Develop and disseminate relevant information on legal developments in this area for relevant stakeholders, including both the Afghan Community and building the capacity of other practitioners;

• Work in close collaboration with the other project Lawyer/s to develop and share experiences and best practice in relation to all aspects of casework (legal, evidential and procedural) and relevant internal processes;

• Work in close collaboration with the Legal Director, Programmes Manager and Coordinator to ensure that appropriate steps to achieve the aims and objectives of the project are taken, including ensuring that relevant data is obtained and assisting with the timely completion of the project Operational Plan/s;

• Work in close collaboration with the APBI Coordinator and Programmes Manager to contribute to the production of materials such as project periodic reports, information on emerging and strategic issues in relation to ‘safe’ routes for use in advocacy, content for newsletters, social media posts and articles to raise awareness of the project and its aims and outputs;

• Participate in, and contribute to, RLS’s monitoring, evaluation and learning framework;

• Be an active member of the RLS team participating in team meetings at both the UK and International level: engaging in a collegiate and collaborative environment that includes participating in the development of a new and exciting legal organisation; 

• Be an active and collaborative member of the APBI Project team together with the other Lawyer/s, Coordinator and Community Engagement and Research Lead;

• Work in close collaboration with the Community Engagement and Research Lead to contribute to the production of information sheets and other materials to disseminate to the Afghan community/ies;

• Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR;

• Adhere to RLS safeguarding policies and procedures at all times. 

Person Specification

Essential

• Be either a member of the Bar, a solicitor and accredited to IAAS Senior caseworker level, accredited to IAAS Senior caseworker level, or OISC accredited to Level 3;

• Experience of asylum casework;

• Experience of refugee family reunion procedures and applications, including applications outside of the Immigration Rules reliant on Article 8 ECHR and other human rights provisions;

• Experience of online immigration applications; 

• Demonstrable knowledge of legal aid provision and ECF applications; 

• Demonstrable supervision experience; 

• Experience of and commitment to working in a collaborative way on legal cases;

• Good verbal and written communication skills in English;

• Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines;

• Strong attention to detail, responsiveness, reliability and dependability;

• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills and an ability to deal professionally and collaboratively with both legal and not-for-profit stakeholders;

• Computer literacy;

• Right to reside and work in the UK;

• Enjoy working with a small team in a flexible and fast-paced environment, as well as being an independent self-starter able to work with a high degree of autonomy;

• Have a strong commitment to upholding the human rights of asylum seekers, migrants, and refugees;

• The successful candidate will be required to obtain an enhanced DBS certificate (we cover the cost). However, a criminal record is not a barrier to the role.

Summary of Role

Working under the direction of our Centre Managers at Arc in the Park and Abbey Hub, Support Workers are key to ensuring the successful delivery of our provision for children and young people. Working with children and young people on and one to one basis and in group settings, the role will support the delivery of our play and youth projects and activities to aid their development and will include providing support to young people with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities.

Responsibilities

·Providing for the social, personal, educational and leisure needs of children and young people (including those with additional needs) by assisting in the running, organisation and delivery of particular projects.

·Establishing positive relationships with all children and young people supporting and enabling them to increase their confidence and realise their potential, fully integrating them into all project activities. 

·Coordinating resources and to develop opportunities for children and young people which reflects their particular needs and circumstances. 

·Facilitating the active involvement of the children and young people in the planning anddevelopment of the project programme. 

·Facilitating the positive integration of children and young people with disabilities, behavioural difficulties and/or additional needs within the project. 

·Providing for the personal care needs of the children and young people as required including toileting, changing and feeding.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Working closely in a small and dedicated team, this is a critical position that will ensure the recruitment, engagement and progression of women who take part in our empowerment programmes. 

Location: SHED co-working space for 2 days a week or at venues in London for our core programme with women and option to work remotely 1 day a week 

Salary: £22,800 for 3 days a week (£38,000 FTE) plus a 5.25% staff pension subject to employee contribution of 1.75% 

Hours: Normal working hours are 9:30am-5:30pm

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure:

• Effective outreach for recruitment onto our programmes
• That women’s programmes run smoothly and that their participants are motivated and supported to complete them through to graduation
• That those women who require 1-1 time with you are provided with this to ensure their safety and to make any referrals to external agencies where required
• All those we work with for the benefit of women on the programmes are engaged eg. short work placement hosts, mentors and venues for activities
• That evaluation data is collected and provided to evaluators/ researchers who edit final annual reports for programmes
• All data is kept accurate, appropriate and secure

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Timetabling online and face-to-face outreach to ensure women are recruited onto programmes in a timely way
• Being the key safeguarding lead at Friday workshops and ensuring that you make 1-1 time for any women who require it (alerting the Head of Operations and People and the CEO and wider team any issues or concerns that need addressing)
• Liaising with the Programmes Coordinator on the timely production of workshop materials and any other course content useful for participants
• Maintaining excellent relationships with workshop providers
• Ensuring that the Programmes Coordinator is across needs for any 1-1 therapy referrals between women and our float of freelance therapists
• Conducting evaluation surveys with women at the start, end and 6 months after they graduate and ensuring all evaluation data is provided to the freelancer responsible for collating the impact of our programmes annually in a final report, as well as providing any data required by the CEO for grant reports
• Signing off on mentor-mentee matches with the Partnerships Manager who recruits mentors
• Working closely with the Partnerships Manager to ensure they are across which kinds of short expenses/ paid work placements with employers women want to access

PERSON SPECIFICATION

You will be someone who is naturally warm/ a people person, compassionate and enabling, and who also has fantastic project management/ organisational skills. You may come from a senior youth worker background or other front line organisations working with young vulnerable adults.

Essential:

• Substantial senior experience working with young, including vulnerable, adults
• Proven track record of project/ programme management experience to deliver successful learning/ educational events/ activities for young people
• Creative thinker with experience of conducting successful outreach for young people
• Experience of safeguarding with vulnerable individuals
• Exceptional people and relationship-building skills with those from a range of different backgrounds eg ranging from young women for our programmes to employers and other stakeholders who engage with our work and participants 
• Excellent written and verbal communication 
• Highly organised multi-tasker, with a personality that works calmly under pressure and with own initiative
• Proof of strategic programme leadership

About On Your Side

On Your Side is the UK-wide support and reporting service for East and Southeast Asian communities who experience racism and/or any forms of hate.

Launched in August 2022, the service includes a 24/7 freephone helpline available in East and Southeast Asian languages; a website with reporting forms and resources; and ongoing community-based support delivered by trained casework advocates. We work to ensure that those who  experience racism and/or hate have access to the highest levels of culturally competent support while building a better picture of the nature and range of incidents so they can be better prevented.

Funded by the UK Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities, On Your Side is delivered by a consortium of 9 organisations including East and Southeast Asian led community groups alongside national hate crime reporting and hate crime prevention organisations. This role will be based at the consortium lead organisation, identity-based violence prevention charity Protection Approaches.

About the role

Based at Protection Approaches, the Project Officer will report directly to the On Your Side Project Manager, and work closely with Protection Approaches’ team, On Your Side Casework Coordinator, Outreach Officer, and all consortium partners.

This is a new and exciting role that will be central to the delivery and development of the On Your Side service as it moves into a new phase over the next 12 months as an established, sustainable service.

In this role the Project Officer will develop their project management skills as they work with the Project Manager on overall coordination of the On Your Side service including coordination of the project delivery team across partner organisations to ensure they are meeting agreed objectives to agreed timelines.

You will oversee several distinct areas of work including overseeing the strategy and work of the On Your Side Outreach Officer in developing and implementing new engagement, outreach, communications and public education strategies. You will also oversee the publishing of a quarterly data report, and ensuring data is being recorded appropriately and accurately.

You will represent the service at high profile meetings and events including meeting with current and future funders, representatives from national and local government, other policy-makers, police and, academic experts to build the profile of the service, improve its support methodologies and impact, and assist in the development and implementation of sustainability and fundraising plans for the service.

You will be trained by the Protection Approaches Outreach team on delivery of hate crime workshops, and other trainings and use those skills to deliver awareness sessions for On Your Side, raising awareness of the service and it’s benefits while supporting ESEA community members to better understand their rights and how they can tackle racism and hate.

The role is a 12-month fixed term contract. During this period we expect to secure additional resources to ensure the ongoing delivery of this service and extend the role of Project Officer.

The successful candidate will:

• Assist the Project Manager in overall coordination of the On Your Side service including coordination of the project delivery team across partner organisations to ensure they are meeting agreed objectives to agreed timelines
• Oversee the work and strategy of the On Your Side Outreach Officer to develop and implement engagement, outreach, and public education strategies to increase knowledge about the service and use of the service

CPRE’s Volunteering Development Officer provides excellent advice on best practice in volunteer engagement so we ensure people from all walks of life can volunteer with us.  You’ll work with the network of 40 county-based charities and with our national CPRE to expand how we campaign for the countryside through volunteering. 

You’ll be working part-time (three days a week) in our Volunteering & Participation team, with the Volunteering and Participation Manager and Volunteering Development Assistant. You’ll also work closely with our Director of Communities and Participation and the Network Engagement team, who are part of the wider Communities and Participation Directorate.

This varied role helps to deliver CPRE’s volunteering strategy, to find a way in for everyone to care for the countryside. You’ll be supporting volunteer coordinators, trustees and others to identify priority volunteer vacancies and assist in driving the recruitment of a diverse range of new volunteers.

You’ll encourage peer to peer networking with Volunteer Coordinators, welcoming new volunteer coordinators into the group and hosting network meetings. Working closely with the Volunteering Development Assistant you’ll be key to the delivery of both our national online volunteer induction programme and our national volunteer awards programme. These initiatives aim to give volunteers a warm welcome to the charity, and recognise and celebrate volunteer achievement.

You’ll receive training to use our volunteer management system Assemble and you’ll support others to make the best use of the system. You’ll be adept at collaborative working, and you’ll be supportive of increasing the diversity of people who volunteer for CPRE.  You’ll also have the opportunity to work with the team to deliver training, and you’ll be able to develop interesting, impactful new volunteering roles with national and local teams.

AAUK are seeking a HR & Payroll Officer to assist the Human Resources team in providing an efficient and legally compliant HR and Payroll function to ensure the highest quality of service. The HR & Payroll Officer will provide general administration across a number of core people management areas including pay, annual leave calculations and benefits and contractual matters. 

The successful candidate will lead and manage the HR Information System data operations and provide a support point for employees with queries in these areas, as well as act as a coordinator for the HR team, providing high quality administration, providing reports and working collaboratively with the People & Culture team as well as cross-organisationally.
 

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be asked to participate in criminal records checks at the point of offer.

The Volunteer Manager (VM) is responsible for overseeing high-quality sourcing of volunteers to join as 1MM Mentors across the regions, which includes partnership development, online site listing, and matching mentors/mentees, general oversight of mentoring relationships in different programmes, implementation of safeguarding measures, fundraising, meeting growth targets and leading all aspects of mentor management. The role will help to establish a pipeline across the regions, with 5000 new mentors for 2024.  This role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).

1MM VM’s main tasks include:

• Helping 1MM to scale by sourcing sufficient volunteer mentors who go on to become confirmed matches for high quality mentoring relationships.

• Ensuring mentors coming online have completed the platform mentor training within 1 month, and that this conversion results in sufficient and timely readiness of mentors to meet the needs of programmes with one month’s lead time.

• Providing ongoing support to 1MM’’s Volunteer Providers (eg employer partners), maintaining strong relationships.

• Securing one corporate sponsor per quarter.

• Becoming familiar with the 1MM Platform, using it comfortably for ongoing administration and providing support to mentors.

• Providing a weekly update on various aspects of mentor recruitment, including expected supply, actual registration, and confirmed matching. Share lessons learned on volunteer conversion and matching with the wider team.

Terms and Conditions:

This is a full time role offered in London, for 6 months (continuing subject to funding). This is a hybrid role with two days working at home, two days in the London office, and one day where it is up to you.

Remuneration and benefits: Salary bracket of £29,000 per annum plus London Weighting (pro rata), up to 6.5% employer pension contribution and 25 days holiday per year (pro rata)..  We also offer monthly team Learning and Development training sessions, and 15 hours volunteering allowance per year.
