Job description

Independent Age works to ensure that as we grow older, we all have the opportunity to live well with dignity, choice and purpose.  To achieve this we provide information, advice and connection services for older people; campaign on the issues that matter most to them around health and care, poverty and loneliness and provide capacity building support to others working in the sector.

This is an exciting time to join the charity as we work on our new ambitious strategy for 2021 – 2023 and increase our profile, impact and reach so more people can live a happy, connected and purposeful later life.

This role is new to Independent Age and you will work with the Head of Scotland to identify communities in Scotland where Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) projects will have the greatest impact on the quality of lives of older people. The postholder will lead a team to manage volunteers to work alongside older people who are lonely and/or isolated, or living in poverty, to create personalised plans that support people to become more connected within their community, enhancing their lives.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience of developing community projects focused on social isolation, preferably with experience of working with older people. You will be confident developing and managing a team of staff and volunteers to deliver these projects in the community, drawing on proven project management skills and working with flexibility and autonomy.

With strong communication skills and the ability to develop excellent relationships with stakeholders, you will also be comfortable using online collaborative tools and be able to prepare engaging case study reports and data.

The postholder will be required to regularly travel throughout Scotland to meet older people, volunteers, local organisations and members of your team.

Independent Age is committed to safeguarding and follow Safer Recruitment practices to ensure we are safeguarding those we work with. We therefore ask that you supply your full work history with explanations for any gaps in the application documents you submit and if offered the post, we will require two employment references including your current or most recent employer. In line with the current guidance in relation to the activity to be undertaken in this role, an enhanced PVG Certificate will be also be required.

We are passionate about equity, diversity and inclusion.  We celebrate diversity and champion the differences and nuances which make each and every one of us unique, creating an inclusive environment where we can all be ourselves.

As well as a competitive salary we offer 28 days annual leave plus public holidays, a generous pension scheme with life assurance, learning and development opportunities, season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme

To apply, please visit our website to submit a cover letter detailing how your skills and experience meet the criteria within the Job Description and Person Specification, along with your CV.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 October
