Job description

We currently have several Trainee Orientation and Mobility Specialist vacancies advertised across the South West region. Please only submit one application; this should be to your preferred location. If invited to interview, you will be given the opportunity to express interest in other locations.

As this role requires an Enhanced Disclosure check job offers will be subject to the receipt of a satisfactory check.

As a Trainee Orientation and Mobility Specialist you will contribute, as a full-time member of staff, to the services delivered by the Exeter, Bristol or Reading Team whilst successfully completing all elements of the 2-year Apprenticeship Training programme in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment).

The content of the apprenticeship will be covered through a mix of on the job, and off the job training.

On the job training will be provided by Guide Dogs as part of the job role of Trainee Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Off the job training will be delivered by Vision Rehabilitation Training Ltd (VRT) key details of which are below.

Vision Rehabilitation Training (VRT) Course key dates

Application deadline date (if successful, applications must be made to VRT by this date): 7th March 2022.

VRT Assessment dates: 21st March 2022

Course dates: VRT Starting in May 2022, 2-year course.

Successful applicants will be required to apply to, and be accepted by, Vision Rehabilitation Training to undertake the Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment) apprenticeship course.

Application Process – upon receipt of an offer of Employment as an Apprentice Rehabilitation Worker

• The apprentice will be issued with an Apprenticeship Mapping Document – this will enable them to identify their previous relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours

• A Video ‘Recognition of Prior Learning Assessment’ interview will review the Apprenticeship Mapping Document and confirm the above entry requirements

• Employer will be issued with a standard ESFA Commitment Statement – Including details of the learners prior learning and the training plan

• Signing of Apprenticeship Contract and Commitment Statement

Course Modules

The apprenticeship training course is divided into 14 modules that are aligned with the Knowledge, Skills and

Behaviours as defined in the Apprenticeship Standard

Note – Guide Dogs will pay the tuition fees as part of the position of Trainee Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
