About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Legal Director will lead Good Law Project’s legal work and support the wider leadership of Good Law Project as a member of its senior management team (SMT).
What we’re looking for
- Qualified solicitor or barrister – presently practising or not practising – of a minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience in England and Wales.
- Extensive civil litigation experience with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Interest in social change and how the law can be used to deliver it.
- Demonstrable experience of critical thinking, including about what the law is, does and could be used to do.
- Committed to Good Law Project’s vision of what a better world looks like.
- Management experience in a senior role, including leading and managing a team or department.
- Strong network in the legal sector.
- Senior management or Board experience.
What We Do
-
Good Law Project is a not-for-profit campaign organisation which uses the law to hold power to account, protect the environment and ensure no one is left behind.
-
We had a primary role in overturning the prorogation of Parliament in 2019. We successfully challenged the Government’s operation of a fast track ‘VIP lane’ for awarding lucrative PPE contracts to those with political connections and our campaigning played a key role in the Met Police opening an investigation into Boris Johnson over the Partygate scandal. In July 2023, we forced the Government to accept that its flagship Net Zero strategy is unlawful and to develop a better plan.
-
Our close-knit team of staff work across three core areas: campaigning, legal and operations. We are nimble and reactive to external events which means Good Law Project suits people who thrive in a fast-paced, at times quite pressured environment. You must share our passion for upholding democracy, protecting the environment and ensuring no one is left behind. Our culture is one of openness and innovation which encourages all staff to pitch ideas and influence the organisation’s direction. We are brave, honest and decisive – those are Good Law Project’s values. We recognise the value of our employees, individually and collectively, and are committed to investing in their welfare and development.
-
In August 2022 we established an independent SRA-regulated law firm in London, Good Law Practice, to support and develop our work.

Why Access Social Care Exists
Everyday millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us, we will all need social care at some point.

We have a team of around 40 staff members and we support more than 1,300 children, young people and families every year. We run services six days per week and we are supported by more than 200 volunteers and 1,500 local funders. The Rugby Portobello Trust is a part of the national charity People Potential Possibilities (P3 Charity).
This is a really exciting time for the charity as we celebrate our 140th anniversary and look towards our next phase of development to ensure we’re offering the best possible support to the next generation in our community. To do this, we are recruiting for a Director of Youth and Family Services to lead and manage operational service delivery and the delivery of our outreach and community engagement in and around west London. The Director will ensure the delivery of excellent services through innovation and co-production and foster an organisational culture that strengthens our brand and stays true to the values and mission of RPT and P3 Charity. You will embed a people-first, values-based ethos and maintain an environment where safeguarding is central. You will support the retention and development of both existing and new programmes in conjunction with the Director of Fundraising & Communications and in line with the values and strategic vision of the organisation. In addition, you will be an integral member of P3’s Senior Leadership Team, manage a number of operational leads, and work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to support the development and long-term vision of RPT and P3 Charity.
The successful candidate will have previous experience delivering community services and will enjoy working in a busy, vibrant environment. A people person at heart, you will be able to build relationships at all levels and be confident acting as an ambassador for the charity. You will be solutions focused with experience of delivering strategies for change and providing excellent strategic leadership. You will also be well versed in providing operational leadership and ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all stakeholders and staff. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly, passionate team and we are looking for someone who will bring the same level of passion for our mission.

Who we’re looking for
You will be an excellent communicator, as well as a practical, well organised and hardworking individual, preferably with experience in the voluntary sector or equivalent transferable experience.
Reporting to the Regional Service Manager, you will support the Service Manager with managing the Cardiff Support Through Court service. You will provide support to volunteers and oversee the daily running of the service when on duty to ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly.

About Support Through Court
Support Through Court is an independent charity providing practical and emotional support to people facing the court process without the benefit of legal representation. Most people are unfamiliar with - and may be frightened of - the courts, and may be facing serious issues that could affect their children and relationships, finances, or the security of their homes. Our staff and volunteers empower people facing court alone, helping them to go through the court process with dignity and confidence. Together, we can ensure that no one faces court alone.
Applicants should apply with a CV and a covering letter explaining persuasively why we should offer you the post. It is important that your letter should provide evidence of the criteria detailed in the job description and person specification document.
We will be interviewing as and when suitable candidates apply, so if you are interested in the position please do not delay your application.
