Rockinghorse Children’s Charity supports children across Sussex. We support babies, children, young people and their families at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex. 

We deliver and fund projects that enable doctors, nurses and other health professionals to do more. All of projects are led by the needs of children and young people and their families.  This includes lifesaving medical equipment, support for parents and families, toys for children spending time in hospitals across Sussex, the environments and spaces that help children feel more at home when they are in hospital and additional staff to make sure children get the best possible care when they are unwell. 

Originally set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, we have been supporting children for more than 55 years. In that time, we have supported nearly a million children and their families. As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, including the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, we work with the NHS, charity partners and the Sussex community to ensure children can be children no matter how unwell they are. 

We do not receive any government, statutory or local authority funding and so we rely on the generous support of individuals, community groups, companies and trusts: people like you, who care about children and want Sussex to be a safe place for children to grow up. 

About the role

In 2022 we launched our three-year strategic plan, which prioritised our activities to enable us to support more babies, children and teenagers. As we enter the final year of this strategy the charity continues to expand and develop its projects and services for sick and disabled children all over Sussex: 

We are thrilled to embark on an exciting new project, the Rockinghorse Wellbeing Service, designed to proactively enhance the mental health and well-being of hundreds of children, young people, and families living in Sussex. This innovative service will be situated at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton.

The Wellbeing Service Manager will be responsible for delivering certain activities based on their skills and experience, collaborating with third-party providers and volunteers for others. This may involve bedside activities to improve the experience of in-patients, as well as group activities within the hospital or out in the community.

Each activity will undergo careful planning and evaluation, incorporating the voices and perspectives of young people. This approach ensures that we provide the most impactful activities to meet their needs.

Our primary goal is to support children and young people managing various illnesses, conditions, and disabilities through activities that alleviate stress and foster connections with others undergoing similar experiences.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Wellbeing Service Manager to join our team and take the lead on this new service. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in elevating the overall wellbeing of our young patients. The position involves coordinating and implementing a diverse range of wellbeing activities and programs focused on fostering a positive and supportive environment within the hospital.

This role is part of the Projects & Operations team, one of three teams within the charity, alongside the Supporter Engagement team and the Communications team.

Duties of the role 

Develop and Implement the Wellbeing Service

· The Wellbeing Service Manager will form part of a steering committee of senior and experienced NHS staff who are helping to develop and shape the service.

· Design and execute engaging wellbeing programs tailored to the unique needs of children, their families, and hospital staff.

· Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to integrate wellbeing activities into the overall care plan for paediatric patients.

· Demonstrate proficiency in leading consultations, developing comprehensive plans, and monitoring progress against established goals.

· Work collaboratively with Rockinghorse and the hospital's volunteering service to facilitate meaningful engagements for children and young people, as well as provide appropriate signposting to other services when needed.

Coordinate Events and Activities

· Organise and oversee events, workshops, and recreational activities that promote mental, emotional, and physical wellness.

· Ensure activities are inclusive, age-appropriate and delivered in a way that is trauma informed and enhances wellbeing.

· Develop and manage a database of wellbeing activities to support service delivery and to scrutinise the wellbeing value of each activity as part of our impact and evaluation of activities.

· Ensure compliance with appropriate policies and procedures in line with legislative and regulatory requirements, adhering to best practices in all activities, and working within established frameworks related to safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional practice.

Community Engagement

· Foster partnerships with local organisations, volunteers, and community resources to expand the reach and impact of wellbeing initiatives.

· Develop and maintain relationships with external partners to enhance the support network available to children and their families.

Individual Sessions

· Provide support to children, young people, and families managing various illnesses, conditions, and disabilities, utilising activities that alleviate stress and encourage connections with peers.

· Collaborate with healthcare teams to identify and address specific wellbeing needs of individual patients.

· Take the lead on child protection measures.

Training and Education

· Support the continued professional development of your team and lead them in a solution focussed way to identify and shape areas of improvement for the project.

· Conduct training sessions for hospital staff on incorporating wellbeing principles into their roles and interactions with patients.

· Create educational materials and resources to promote wellbeing awareness and practices.

Monitoring and Evaluation

· Support the development of a Theory of Change and an evaluation model/framework for the wellbeing programme.

· Establish metrics (outputs, outcomes and impact) to assess the effectiveness of wellbeing programs and activities (against the TOC and evaluation framework).

· Gather qualitative and qualitative feedback from patients, families, and staff to continuously improve and tailor future initiatives.

Documentation and Reporting

· Maintain accurate records of wellbeing activities, participation, and outcomes.

· Prepare regular reports highlighting the impact and success of wellbeing programs.

· You will assist Rockinghorse colleagues in providing information for marketing purposes, informing funding applications, providing support for funder visits to the service and any other duties appropriate to the role and in line with the needs of the charity.

Person specification 

Essential experience, skills and knowledge for the role: 

1. Qualified in a relevant area (eg youth work, social work, nursing, counselling, mental health) or with equivalent professional experience.

2. Experience of working with children and young people and delivering group sessions and activities for young people, using non-clinical interventions to support positive outcomes.

3. Demonstrable understanding of project management and experience managing multiple, complex projects, including budget development and day to day management, project planning and delivery, and project evaluation (setting, monitoring and managing targets, objectives, KPIs and activity plans).

4. Able to work collaboratively and build productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and third-party agencies.

5. Experience in maintaining accurate records, collect data to evidence impact and prepare reports evaluating and monitoring projects.

Key Details

About the Role

Reporting to the Legal Director with day-to-day responsibility for scoping, developing and running Good Law Project’s legal cases and projects and for working with the team to build successful campaigns.

The purpose of the role

This role is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of fundraising at the National Theatre, as we look to grow our income from individual members, major donors, trusts and corporate organisations.

Working with the Senior Prospect Research & Donor Insight Manager, you will develop a strong fundraising pipeline that will ensure the team can reach their long-term targets.

Your natural curiosity will lead you to identify new opportunities using a variety of online sources in combination with the NT’s database, Tessitura, and you will be able to articulate your recommendations to fundraisers in a concise and compelling way. With excellent attention to detail, this role also undertakes due diligence research into potential funders to assess any risks to the NT of accepting funds. This role also manages the Development Operations Assistant, who leads the day-to-day administration of the Development database.

Summary of Job Purpose

The Business and Operations Lead plays a vital role in managing and developing the operational business functions of the organisation and supporting its charitable aims; working closely with the CEO to deliver and improve the organisation’s strategic planning, operational delivery, and budgeting/ finance processes. The postholder plays a vital role in ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the iHV run smoothly, with key functions:

• Leading iHV business and financial management, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, strategic planning and risk management.

o Work closely with the CEO, senior leadership team and our accountants to align financial and operational strategies.

o Manage financial controls, procedures, and systems.

o Collaborate with various departments, including external stakeholders, for effective budgeting and operational management.

• Leading iHV operations:

o Senior responsibility for administrative, legal, and compliance functions, ensuring smooth operations. This will include management of our Emsworth Office, IT and risks, supporting business planning and change management.

o Lead the operational change for a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and website. iHV Project Lead working with the supplier, the Project Manager and a small team at the iHV to ensure that the project is delivered within the specified time, cost and quality parameters of the specification.

o Working closely with our part-time Head of HR, supporting the senior management team and line managers with HR matters, including recruitment.

o Line management responsibilities of designated staff in the corporate team, supporting business administration.

o Working with the CEO to ensure good governance of Board-related matters, collating Board papers and attending quarterly Board meetings.

Key areas of responsibility:

Business and financial management:

• Maintain and develop robust quality assurance processes for income and expenditure, working with our CEO and accountants, to ensure all financial and reputational risks are effectively managed.
• Ensure effective financial processes across the iHV, with systems in place for invoicing, managing iHV payments and standing orders, and chasing outstanding payments and debtors.
• Build departmental budgets, supporting leads with forecasting, budget tracking, monthly monitoring (management accounts are produced by our independent accountants) to inform workforce planning.
• Work with department leads to prepare budgets for tenders and project/ research grant applications, including determining when VAT is applicable.
• Process invoices, iHV card payments, direct debits, standing orders, expense claims forms and ordering of office supplies, with support from the Corporate Team Administrator.
• Support leads to manage contracting, invoicing and reporting to external funders in accordance with funder requirements. Ensure all new funding streams and other costs are accurately recorded by the accountants.
• Ensure management of the corporate member joiners to the organisation, including invoicing and setting up a process for re-invoicing.
• Work closely with the external accountants to provide information on monthly suspense, debtors, mis-postings and general queries in relation to iHV finance. Ensure the iHV’s reconciliation and remittance records are updated weekly.
• Ensure all financial documentation is available for scrutiny as required, including support for annual financial audit by independent auditors.
• Make recommendations, provide advice, and prepare strategic reports and briefings as required.

Operational Management and Governance:

• Support the CEO and department leads in managing human resources, risk management, quality assurance, operational change, and board functions.
• Support iHV business planning and the development of key objectives and priorities for the corporate Team (in partnership with the CEO and other leads within the corporate team).
• Oversee the operational needs of the Institute – supporting leads within the organisation with workflow mapping, business continuity and planning to support matrix working across the organisation.
• Recording and monitoring of business risks across the organisation to enable risk management, reporting to the Board and providing support in association with the CEO.
• Support the board, providing secretariat functions to board meetings, including ensuring all papers are provided on time, managing sensitive information, and taking board minutes.
• Work with the CEO to develop, coordinate and implement organisational policies throughout the Institute.
• Support the CEO with reporting to the Charity Commission/ Companies House and ensuring that the organisation’s charitable obligations are met. Work with external auditors to deliver the annual audits; and ensure that the relevant documentation is held in line with requirements, is available for external auditing, and the delivery of audit recommendations are tracked.
• Support Health & Safety risk management, ensuring risk assessments are in place, processes and policies are up to date, and staff are trained and informed with any changes.

Information Technology

• Management of robust administration and business support systems, including negotiation and management of IT agreements, subscriptions, licences and contracts as required, providing recommendations for improvements and efficiencies to the CEO.
• Facilities management of required IT and infrastructure to include details of equipment held and provision of Microsoft/ other required licences.
• Liaise and schedule work to be undertaken under external IT support contract.
• Lead operational change for new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and website – working with a dedicated project manager who has scoped our organisational requirements (almost completed), to finalise the invitation to tender (ITT), manage the procurement process, evaluate submissions with a small in-house change team at the iHV, and make recommendations to the board. The postholder will lead the project for the iHV, working with the supplier, the Project Manager and a small team at the iHV to ensure that the project is delivered within the specified time, cost and quality parameters of the specification and is robustly tested before launching.
• Information management and analysis to highlight issues/ risks and support decision making – work with Head of HR to ensure iHV compliance with GDPR.

Human Resources

• Management of our Emsworth office with line management responsibility for a small number of designated staff in the corporate team who support business management (currently the Corporate Team Administrator), supporting the delivery of team objectives within the iHV Business Plan.
• Support, motivate and develop staff, managing direct reports’ annual performance development review (PDR) and performance management, if required.
• Work closely with the Head of HR to make sure that good employment practices are universally embedded operationally within the iHV.
• Support staff recruitment and the induction of new staff; provide advice to staff on corporate policies and procedures and communicate changes.
• Support the Performance Development review process for the iHV, collating 360 feedback for iHV employees where requested, and maintaining records for annual PDR outcomes.
• Maintain oversight of the recording of annual leave with the Corporate Team Administrator, Head of HR, and department leads.
• Provide operational leadership and management for team awayday (leading a small team to plan this each year), to support team building and staff development.

Other:

Cherry Lodge Cancer Care is an independent charity committed to improving the quality of life for people living with cancer, their carers, family, and friends.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Cancer Information Specialist Nurse, and are seeking an experienced, flexible, and dynamic NMC registered nurse to join our team. 

At Cherry Lodge, we work alongside the clinical care of the NHS in an area centred on Barnet and covering much of North London and South Hertfordshire. We are based at the very friendly and welcoming Cherry Lodge Centre, in Union Street, Chipping Barnet. We also have an Outreach Service with an impact across the borough of Barnet, concentrating particularly on providing information and support to members of black and minority ethnic groups. Our Befriending Service provides additional support for people in their own homes.

Job Purpose:

To act as a specialist information resource for the management of people with cancer, their carers, and families.

To co-ordinate, manage and develop the Cherry Lodge Cancer Care (CLCC) information service by providing assessment, information, support and signposting to people visiting and telephoning the centre. Oversight of interventions and therapies delivered, ensuring the person with cancer/carer/family experience of support feels seamless and is transparent.

To work proactively with primary and secondary care and voluntary sector partners to promote Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and build awareness of the support available for people living with and beyond cancer. This will include further developing relationships with local cancer care providers including the North London Hospice and North Central London Cancer Alliance.

Contribute to the coordination of the day-to-day running of therapy and complementary therapies delivered at CLCC,  including mentoring of junior staff and volunteers as necessary. Working in close partnership with the Volunteer Co-ordinator and Befriending Service Lead.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Information/Service Provision

To ensure people with cancer their carers and families/friends gain access to the information they require by providing the following services:

1. To provide one to one sessions where assessment and planning ensures people are able to discuss all information aspects of their illness (symptom management, treatment, and living with cancer).

2. Provide support, access to therapies and signposting to other local services and support services.

3. Provide appropriate psychological support throughout the cancer diagnosis, treatment and follow up pathway, as appropriate and identified by the person with cancer.

4. Facilitate and support nurse/therapy led groups

5. Act as the person with cancer’s advocate, particularly where informed discussion may affect care management options, by ensuring robust links with secondary care Clinical Specialist Nurses.

6. Deliver support, information, and education to promote self-care following a diagnosis, and reduce risks of future complications. Actively encourage a Health & Wellbeing, enabling approach.

7. Work closely with the Cancer Information Specialist Nurse (Outreach).

8. To maintain a comprehensive, accurate and up to date information resource, including a database of information about local and national services.

9. Maintain professional links and liaise with other units/centres to ensure continuity of care and support for patients throughout their care pathway.

10.  To use communication skills and empathy to impart information at all levels. To work with the Operations Manager to audit the service on a regular basis ensuring that feedback from users of the service is used to develop services further.

11.  Support and participate in service review and ongoing development of nurse/therapy led services.

12.  Ensure clear and concise records are documented ensuring effective communication observing NMC guidance for records and records keeping.

13.  To provide information by telephone and respond to written requests for information.

Zero Carbon Guildford (ZCG) needs an enthusiastic, organised and capable person to help run our Charity operations and ensure we are performing against our strategic objectives.

We are a Surrey-based charity offering practical solutions which help residents and businesses cut waste and emissions, remove confusion and misinformation on how to make a difference, and provide local solutions to a global crisis.

Overview and Purpose of the role:

The ZCG Operations Coordinator will focus on two main areas:

1. Monitoring ZCG’s performance against strategy and create longevity for the charity

2. Ensuring the smooth and compliant running of our operations 

Your role will involve translating the Charity’s strategy into implementable actions and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will help us monitor our performance against our overarching strategy outcomes and benefits. Alongside this role we are advertising for a Project Development Coordinator, and you will work with them to convert the metrics and outcomes from individual projects into a measure of wider Charity impact and success.

A key part of the role will be monitoring the targets outlined in our successful funding bids, and ensuring that all reporting requirements are met. You will be responsible for creating and presenting regular reports on both strategic and funding targets to Operations and Trustee teams.

You will ensure the efficient day to day operation of the charity and our town centre premises, ZERO, ranging from management of stock levels through to implementing and monitoring safe working practices both within the ZERO premises and at external events. You will oversee volunteer supervision within the space; a shared task amongst all ZCG employees.

The role will include oversight of the ZCG events schedule, both via booking and management of events, as well as performance against event targets, whilst implementing the ZCG engagement strategy to ensure that messaging of events is tailored appropriately to the audience. Managing our diverse events schedule requires you to be a spokesperson for the charity, liaising with volunteers, local organisations and the general public so interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude is a must.

We are advertising this role alongside a Project Development Coordinator role, and envisage each of these being ~4 days a week, which will include some evening and weekend hours. However, we are eager to recruit the best possible combination of people to the team, and will consider different working arrangements (either fewer or more hours), and individuals with experiences across the two roles.

This role is funded by the National Lottery Communities Fund.

Tasks:

• Monitoring ZCG’s performance against strategy and ensuring charity longevity. This includes: 

  • Creating, measuring and reporting KPIs for charity activity and impact, in reference to charity strategy and the requirements of grant funding we have received. 

  • Regular reporting on progress to Operations and Trustees, including contributions to annual reporting 

  • Ensuring organisational longevity through ongoing efforts to secure both short term premises should the need arise, as well as a more permanent home for our activity.

• Events oversight and management to ensure ZCG delivers successful, impactful events, including:

  • Supporting volunteer event leads to make their events a success. 

  • Supporting planning, promotion, set up (online event set up as well as physical space arrangements), risk assessments, and registration tracking against grant funded event targets. 

  • Working with the Operations Team to facilitate organisation of additional events needed to fill gaps in ZCG offering and meet our KPIs.

• Building management and compliance, including: 

  • Health and safety, risk and compliance

  • Ensuring that staff and volunteers follow safe working procedures

  • Arrange repeats of assessments at relevant frequencies. 

  • Management of building maintenance and refurbishment

  • Managing cafe / shop stock levels, compliance and food hygiene requirements, volunteer training, cash handling and banking 

  • Manage storage, waste collection, and cleaning schedule

• Work with the other employees and volunteers as part of the Operations Team at ZCG to support smooth, and effective operation of the charity, and delivery of our charitable aims - this includes: 

  • Keeping up to date with correspondence on our online workspace, Slack, joining fortnightly Operations meetings (usually on a Tuesday evening) and contributing to Operations activities and decisions.

  • Engaging members of the public who contact the charity online, by phone and through email

  • Actively champion our equality and diversity policy to foster an inclusive environment ensuring that all projects are enjoyable and a welcoming places to volunteer.

  • Undertake training as required.

Person Specification:

As Operations Coordinator, you will need a wide-ranging skill set and must be extremely well-organised and practical. Effective communication skills are vital as you will be working closely with volunteers and staff members, and will need to positively motivate them whilst ensuring collaboration and compromise keep the charity functioning well.

You will also need to:

• Have a commitment to climate and environmental issues, and understand the importance of communicating in a way that resonates with different audiences. A deep scientific and social knowledge is not a prerequisite for the role, but a willingness and ability to learn more and develop this understanding is vital. 

• Be competent at putting strategy into practice, tracking KPIs and problem solving to find ways to adapt to changing situations 

• Have experience in creating and implementing effective processes and communicating them via written guidance and training. 

• Work well within a team setting and have excellent communication skills. Appreciate diverse views and be able to discuss and agree ways forward, with a strong focus on collaboration and the willingness to compromise.

Working in schools through tailored Impact Programmes we support each child’s Social, Emotional, and Academic progress to drive a SEA change, promoting positive community change.

We are a medium-sized charity, with annual revenue of approximately £7m and a headcount of over 110 employees. Following eight years of impact for children and families in west London via an innovative partnership model – involving young people, families, schools (50+), local authorities (4), charities and community organisations (50+) – our next 3-year plan takes us to a £10m charity committed to pursuing more and broader social change across our communities in three places and having a national influence.

Since our launch in 2016, we have helped over 4,500 children and young people to build the relationships, self-belief and skills they need to get on track to flourish into adulthood. However, we have ambitions plans to help more children and young people.

This is where you can make a substantial difference in the newly created position of Chief Finance and Operations Officer (CFOO).

About the role

The CFOO will report to the Chief Executive and play a pivotal role for us, as we broaden and deepen our impact, transitioning from local to national scale. You will oversee and drive development of all financial and operational management, processes and reporting. As we continue to evolve, you will lead the integration of our most developed place of work, west London, with our new place of work, Wigan in the Greater Manchester area, followed by a third place in the near/medium-term.

Working closely with the Chief Delivery and Impact Officer, who oversees all of our collaborative work in our communities with children and families, you will lead the development of our operating model for our growing range of activities. Ensuring we have the highest quality governance, business planning, finance, compliance and risk management functions, as well as robust systems, processes and policies to do our best work will be vital. To achieve this, you will be responsible for bringing together some of our existing functions and building a new team within the organisation.

About you

We seek an experienced strategic leader who has held a broad finance and operations position, with a track record of interacting at Board level and presenting clear financial and management information. Whilst you don’t have to be financially qualified, we do need someone with strong financial acumen and demonstrable ability to monitor, interpret and communicate financial information effectively. You will be experienced at scaling organisations and have delivered new and/or successful improvements to existing systems and processes, with a track record of driving changes or improvements to business plans, policies and procedures.

You will have a passion for our purpose, commitment to our mission and alignment with our organisational values. Whilst being robust about process, you need to be able to flex to changing circumstances and be skilled at getting the best out of people as well as driving a culture of continuous improvement and learning. Crucially, you be wholly committed to driving forward the core infrastructure for our work supporting children and families to flourish and communities to strengthen themselves.

Leaders in Community (LiC) is an award-winning youth-led organisation with over 15 years' experience in delivering youth leadership and youth social action campaigns, supporting local young people challenge and overcome inequalities and barriers to progression.

As the Partnerships and Services Manager, you will report directly to the CEO and as such will be a member of the leadership team, to deliver Leaders in Community’s (LiC) work to empower young people and communities to improve quality of life and build a sustainable future in line with the Charity’s vision and mission. Working alongside the leadership team, you will oversee, and capacity build the services being delivered in our vibrant community centre, which is located in the historic East End of London.
