Job description

Working as part of the GMYN Delivery team, Team Leaders will play an integral part in delivering the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme this Summer.

As a role model and mentor, you will safely lead a team of up to 16 young people through all phases of the NCS programme and plan/deliver activities where appropriate. Together with another Team Leader you will engage, challenge and inspire your team; supporting each individual on their NCS journey from start to finish, ensuring they reach their full potential and have a memorable and life changing experience.  This role requires high levels of professionalism and a passion for youth work.

  • Salary: For a two week programme you can earn up to £980 + annual leave entitlement
  • Mandatory Training: Sat 21st and Sunday 22nd May 2022 – TBC (paid)
  • Programme Dates: July – August 2022 (various dates)
  • Reporting to: NCS Wave Leader & Programme Coordinators

Who are GMYN?

For many young people, the transition to adulthood isn’t easy. In the UK, one third of young people are lonely, half feel unready for work and half feel like they don’t belong to their community.

Our vision is #YoungPeopleCan and we help young people in Greater Manchester overcome this. We deliver a range of development programmes and drop-in activities to help young people aged 13-25 transition to adulthood feeling skilled, supported and positive.

What is NCS?

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a fantastic opportunity open to all 15 to 17-year-olds, providing them with skills and experiences that can’t be learnt in the classroom. We aim to support participants' personal and social development and help them develop the confidence, skills and attitudes they need to take on active roles in their communities and develop themselves for their own future.

The NCS Programme is divided into two weeks:

Week 1: Be Epic & Live Life – During a four-night residential stay, your team will take part in outdoor adventure, challenges and team building activities, along with a range of workshops to develop independent living skills.

Week 2: Do Good – Back at a community base in Manchester, your team will focus on developing a social action project. You will support your team to design and implement a youth led project that will make a real difference to their local community.

To Apply:

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, even if you don’t feel like your experience ticks every box on the person specification. While we are looking for some specific skills, we are much more interested in attitude, personal qualities and passion.

We also know that different people have relevant experience from many different aspects of life: at GMYN, we value lived experience just as much as we value experience gained through employment, volunteering or study.

Our aim is to find suitable candidates that can meet the selection criteria below. This can be from a past/current youth work role, or a role with transferable skills. More importantly we are looking for your passion and ability to fulfil this role, whatever your background.
