The Role
As Wilder Learning Manager, you’ll lead a small, passionate team delivering inspiring outdoor learning and engagement programmes that connect schools, educators and young people with nature across Sussex. You’ll oversee the delivery and ongoing development of high‑quality accredited training, INSETs, school sessions and advice that supports schools to improve their grounds for nature and outdoor learning.
You’ll be an enthusiastic and confident leader, able to step into delivery when needed, and excited by innovation, collaboration and partnership working. Bringing experience of managing people, you’ll foster a positive, supportive and inclusive culture, encouraging creativity, continuous improvement and professional development.
This varied role combines leadership, project management and hands‑on involvement, playing a key part in ensuring our learning offer inspires and empowers educators and young people to connect with, care for and benefit from nature across Sussex’s land and marine environments.
A valid drivers licence is required for this role.
This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS with Barred List check
The Person

Head of Finance
We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to provide strong financial leadership within a landowning and educational charity.
Position: Head of Finance
Salary: £57,500 per annum
Location: Quenington, Gloucestershire, GL7 5BN
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role leads the accounting and compliance functions and provides high quality financial insight to support informed decision making. You will manage the Financial Accountant and Management Accountant and act as a key finance business partner to senior leaders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering accurate financial reporting and strengthening financial controls
- Managing statutory accounts and the annual audit process
- Ensuring compliance with relevant financial and regulatory requirements
- Supporting cash and investment management strategies
- Improving management information with a focus on clarity and forward looking analysis
- Acting as a trusted finance business partner to senior and executive leaders
- Contributing to senior leadership and governance forums
- Driving continuous improvement across finance systems, processes and ways of working
- Owning financial risk and controls across commercial and product areas
About You
You will be a qualified finance professional with strong technical skills and experience of working at a senior level.
Essential skills and experience include:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
- Significant post qualification experience in a senior finance or finance business partnering role
- Experience within a charity or property related organisation is desirable
- Strong financial modelling, forecasting and scenario analysis skills
- Ability to translate complex financial data into clear insight
- Confident communicator with experience presenting to senior and executive stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work at pace
- High attention to detail with a practical, solutions focused approach
- Collaborative working style and strong cross functional skills

ABOUT THE ROLE
Team: Active Journeys
As the Project Officer, you will work directly with schools and local communities across West Sussex, identifying ways to transform streets and public spaces into safer, more welcoming environments for active travel.
What you’ll be doing:
- Plan and deliver behaviour change projects and activities that promote walking, wheeling, and cycling within schools and local communities.
- Build strong, effective relationships with local leaders, authorities, and other key stakeholders.
- Supervise and mentor colleagues and volunteers involved in project delivery.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys planning and delivering fun activity sessions with children and young people, and helping build projects that help get people active, improving health and wellbeing and the environment!
ABOUT YOU
We’re looking for someone who has experience and understanding in the areas listed below. You don’t need to meet every requirement — if you feel you’d be a good fit, we encourage you to apply.
- Proven experience of managing small clearly defined projects or experience of delivering work packages as part of a project.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience of connecting with different audiences and adapting your approach.
- A proactive problem‑solver who effectively manages priorities and workload.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor others while collaborating effectively to build strong, positive working relationships.
- Experience of planning and delivering activity sessions, and a willingness to learn and share new practical skills like bike maintenance.
- Experience of working with children and young people.
This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Walk Wheel Cycle Trust.
