Overview
Healthwatch Newham wishes to employ a Deaf Outreach Worker. The role will work with the Deaf community on an action plan of delivery to make improvements across Newham. This is a fixed term contract of 12 months and you will work in partnership with the Newham health and social care system.
You will be a Deaf person with life experience of being Deaf and Deaf culture. You will be fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) and used to working in a bilingual environment with Deaf and hearing colleagues.

This role is based at our centre a short walk from Clapham Common tube station, in London. We support homeless people from the local area and further afield. Our services are open access, so the people who come to the Ace of Clubs are diverse and from multiple walks of life. Consequently their needs can be complex, so we are looking for a skilled communicator who can support people, many of who live chaotic lifestyles. Our purpose at the Ace of Clubs is to address people’s basic human needs by providing food, clothing, toiletries, and practical support. We help people link up with housing, healthcare, education, and employment. About the role:
The post holder will work within The Passage’s Community Services as a Complex Case Outreach Worker and will lead on case management for people experiencing homelessness who are presenting in the footprints in which the team operate and/or who are accessing the Resource Centre. The post-holder will support individuals with substance use support needs and/or mental health issues and will lead on work with clients who are experiencing alcohol and/or drug dependencies and who may also be experiencing mental health problems or other health or social care needs.
Main duties:
- To manage a caseload of clients presenting within the footprints in which the Engagement & Outreach service operate and individuals who are accessing The Passage Resource Centre. To support clients with complex needs, supporting them to identify and work towards recovery and away from homelessness.
- Carry out assessments, case management, support planning and the delivery of interventions for clients including those experiencing mental health and/or substance misuse issues who are multiply-disadvantaged in their homelessness.
- Provide assertive outreach and engagement with street-based service users presenting with complex needs and barriers to engagement. Carry out monthly street-based audits to inform reporting and analysis of service outcomes.
- Support clients who are rough sleeping or involved in day time activity in the footprints in which the team operate to end their homelessness by linking them in with appropriate internal and external support services relevant to their needs. To provide support to clients who are accommodated, but may require ongoing support in order to maintain this accommodation, linking them in to appropriate local services.
General responsibilities:
- In conjunction with your line manager to continuously develop the role to ensure that all tasks are being undertaken in an effective and appropriate manner which meets the strategic aims and objectives of The Passage.

Carers Hub are an independent local charity, who work with carers aged five upwards. As they enter the second year of their pilot project, they are now recruiting for a Family Support Worker to join their team, on a FTC basis, initially until March 2025.
As a family Support Worker, you will work across the Young Carers and Adult Carers teams to provide support to families affected by alcohol and/or substance misuse, through whole-family assessments and reviews. You will be helping to ensure that adult and young carers and their families have access to a range of emotional and practical support. You will also work closely with the Young Carers Assessments and Referrals Officer, Identify and prevent inappropriate caring responsibilities, carry out 1-1 casework and maximise support for families through effective partnership working and improved referral pathways.
To be considered for this role you will have experience of working with vulnerable young people and managing complex cases as well as knowledge of safeguarding protocols including referring and escalation to Children’s Social Care. Candidates with a professional qualification in health and social care, youth or community work, and/or direct experience of delivering family focused interventions are encouraged to apply.

Much of the work will involve outreach and delivery in Early Years settings, child development centres and nurseries throughout Lambeth. The role will involve working closely with the Lambeth Early Years Specialists Health Visitors and Paediatricians. The role will involve planning and organising workshops and information sessions, drop-in sessions and ongoing family case work.
You will provide an advice, information and guidance service to parents of very young children aged 0-2years,
You will assess families' needs and plan actions with parents' participation as per their needs. You will encourage parent carers' empowerment and involvement.
What we are looking for:
- Experience of working with and supporting families who have disabled children, and in particular, working with families who have disabled children aged 0-2 years
- Good communication responsive to the needs of families of very young children who may be facing uncertainty and challenges at the beginning of understanding their child’s additional needs
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Knowledge and experience of the issues and concerns that affect families who have disabled children e.g. leisure provision, education, respite care.
- Knowledge of issues relating to maximising income, tackling debt and budgeting, accessing financial support, tax credits and other financial issues.
- Good communication, time management and networking skills.

The purpose of this role is to support NEON’s work to build organising capacity in UK social movements, including through NEON’s Worker-led Transition project. You will:

Build support for a worker-led transition in the climate movement and communities, with an emphasis on local and regional coalition and capacity-building in key industrial regions, as well as strengthening relationships with the trade union movement

Co-deliver organising trainings and provide longer-term organising coaching for social movement organisations across a range of issues, to build their organising skills and capacity, and using tools and content developed through our Transformative Organising Programme

Provide responsive support to movement organisations when they need it most, offering strategic and organising advice and resources
