About the Role

Background information

The Director of Business Development is primarily focussed on growing commercial opportunities and engaging at a strategic partnership and corporate level. • A relevant professional qualification at SCQF Level 9 or above or equivalent knowledge acquired by other means.

Position: Fundraising Manager
Location: Home-based/Scotland with 5 days per month in the Edinburgh office
Salary: £45,000 per annum plus benefits including 35 days holiday (including bank holidays), life assurance, and loyalty-based rewards such as health insurance, pension top-ups, or extra leave.

The Role

As Fundraising Manager, you’ll play a central role in helping Winning Scotland deliver sustainable growth by identifying and securing new income across trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, statutory and government funding, and public sector contracts.

Working closely with programme leads and the senior leadership team, you’ll research, prioritise, and secure funding opportunities to support the charity’s ambitious growth plans over the next 2–3 years. You’ll also develop strong relationships with funders, write compelling funding applications, and provide excellent stewardship and reporting.

You’ll focus on growing income from institutional and corporate sources, while senior leaders continue to manage high-value individual donor relationships, allowing you to concentrate on developing strong pipelines and managing effective bids.

About You

You’ll be a skilled and motivated fundraiser with a solid understanding of the Scottish and wider UK funding landscape.

You’ll have:

• A proven track record of securing income from trusts, foundations, corporates and/or statutory sources
• Strong bid-writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex programme work into persuasive proposals
• Excellent relationship management and stewardship abilities
• The capacity to work independently, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Ideally, you will also bring:

• Experience of strategic, high-value fundraising in a small or growing charity
• An understanding of issues affecting young people and youth-focused sectors
• Experience using design tools (e.g. Canva) to create professional proposals and reports
• Knowledge of international funding sources such as the US and Europe

About the team 

Trusts and Foundations (T&F) is part of a High Value Partnerships team that sits within an Income Generation Directorate raising £30 million to support Shelter’s work. About £3 million of that is raised by the Trusts team. T&F is currently a team of nine: eight fundraisers – two in Scotland, one in Bristol and the rest in London, plus a Grant Manager supporting role. Half of the England-based team focus more on new business, while the other half manage and maximise our ongoing relationships.

About the roles 

You’ll help delivery our strategy by generating income from mid to high level trusts and foundations. Raising money for our core day-to-day activities, as well as for new projects, you’ll bring our income generation goals to life. You’ll work alongside a Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager and manage a personal portfolio of funders and projects, and you’ll be fully supported by an experienced fundraising team and senior managers in front line services.

The fixed-term role includes line management responsibility for the Trusts Executive, and is focused on maximising existing funder relationships. The permanent role has no line reports and is more focused on securing income from cold and new funders.

About you

You are confident in your ability to take on a portfolio of new funders at different stages of engagement and, through research, effective communication and meeting strategies, secure income. You’ll also need proven experience of working closely with delivery teams to identify core services that are attractive to a particular funder, or support design new projects that are a strategic priority for that service.

A flair for planning, writing and project-managing new large-scale, multi-year applications to institutional funders is important too. You will be highly collaborative and able to work with colleagues across our High Value Partnerships team in order to maximise income opportunities.

About the role

The Trusts and Foundations Advisor works strategically within the Partnerships and Business Development team to maximise impact and income by building high value partnerships and securing five, six and seven figure grants.

You will be responsible for building new relationships with prospect donors as well as providing exceptional stewardship of existing donors, and will collaborate closely with other teams in the wider division to create excellent proposals. 

You will be expected to develop a strong pipeline of highly engaged Trusts and Foundation Funders committing to multi-year pledges to maximise income and impact, and build relationships based on trust and openness using the support of senior staff and Multi-Country Cluster based colleagues.

You will work collaboratively within the team and beyond, sharing expertise and ideas to create strong cultivation plans and proposals, and you will be expected to think critically about existing processes, aiming to create, adapt and deliver innovative ideas, initiatives and networks to secure impactful and meaningful support for Christian Aid’s programmes.

You will develop relationships with potential donors and partners and represent Christian Aid at appropriate networking events such as conferences and external meetings.

About you

We are looking for a confident fundraiser with significant experience of securing five and six figure gifts from Trusts and Foundations. You will demonstrate a clear understanding understanding of the Trusts and Foundations landscape and market trends, and will be able to employ a wide range of Trusts and Foundations fundraising approaches and strategies.

As a fundraiser, you will have significant experience of responding to the requirements and demands of funders, and demonstrable experience of producing in-depth, motivating and inspiring proposals and funding reports.

You will be able to demonstrate highly developed negotiation and influencing skills, and demonstrable experience of successful networking with internal and external senior stakeholders. 

You will be able to demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills across your work.
