This is one of the most important roles within Shine Cancer Support. You’ll be overseeing and supporting Shine’s volunteers around the country, ensuring that they have what they need to reach as many young adults with cancer as possible. You’ll also work closely with Shine’s Programme Delivery Manager to deliver training and support programmes directly to young adults with cancer and healthcare professionals.

Location:  Hybrid, with two days per week at Shine’s offices in Blackheath, South East London or in Poole, Dorset.

Hours & salary:  Full time (35 hours per week). Salary range is £33,000 - £35,000 pro rata, depending on experience.

This is a one year contract to cover maternity leave starting mid/late January 2026.

Key responsibilities

Volunteer Support

• Support Shine’s volunteer Network Leaders across England, Scotland and Wales to develop their Shine Networks, ensuring that they provide the best possible support to young adults with cancer. This will include an annual support plan, developing and testing new ways of expanding Shine’s reach, and regular catch-up calls. 

• Work with Shine staff and facilitators to recruit, train and support new volunteers from across the UK.

• Deliver an annual plan for training and support, touching on issues such as outreach and fundraising.

• Maintain and develop Shine’s online information pages for Shine volunteers.

• Organise and facilitate online meet-ups for Shine beneficiaries.

Programme Delivery

• Assist the Programme Delivery Manager and facilitators to deliver Shine’s core programmes (Break Out programme, Shine Circles) to Shine beneficiaries, as well as training to healthcare professionals.

• Create new connections with healthcare professionals across the UK. This will include linking to relevant Cancer Alliances and Integrated Care Boards.

• Oversee the administration and management of relevant monitoring and evaluation processes.

• Excellent IT skills, including solid knowledge of Word and Excel, and experience with social media.

• Experience of managing projects remotely, including using tools such as Asana

• Experience of working as part of a small team, including volunteers

• A background and/or understanding of the role and importance of volunteers in the charity sector

This job description summarises the main duties and responsibilities of the post. About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We exist to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.

Last year, 509 children were tragically admitted to hospital after being assaulted with a knife. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them. Even when violence doesn’t strike directly, we know that the fear of violence has a terrible effect on children’s lives.

At the Youth Endowment Fund, we are working to create lasting change. To succeed, we must build a world-leading body of knowledge on the violence that affects young people and how it can be stopped. This means producing rigorous, relevant evidence — through synthesis, data analysis and in-depth research into young people’s lives. But knowledge alone isn’t enough. We must make it accessible and actionable: showing what works, how services need to change, and how the systems around them must adapt. And we must partner with the people who can make change happen — across policy, practice and local systems — to turn evidence into impact.

About the role

We recently started a new workstream of research into why violence happens, and which children are most vulnerable. We are working with experts across research, policy and practice to investigate: 

· What are the risk and protective factors for violence?

· Why does violence happen? What are the underlying causes?

· How can we use this research to improve policy and practice, and keep children safe?

We are recruiting a Senior Research Manager to lead a portfolio of projects in this workstream. This will include research exploring how predictive tools and algorithms are used to assess risk of involvement in violence and guide support decisions.This joint programme with UKRI Safer Streets Mission will investigate whether these tools can help practitioners identify people at risk accurately, safely, and fairly—and whether their use improves outcomes.

Predictive tools are structured frameworks that aim to help professionals such as police analysts or social workers assess someone’s likelihood of committing violence. They differ from “pure” professional judgement, where practitioners rely solely on their own assessment without a formal checklist or model. These tools have been used for years but are becoming both increasingly powerful and controversial as new approaches, including machine learning, emerge.

The Senior Research Manager will commission and oversee a research team to deliver two projects:

1. A systematic review of existing research on predictive tools in violence prevention.

2. Primary research on how these tools are currently used in England and Wales, including their practical and ethical implications.

The final report will assess predictive accuracy, impact, implementation, ethics, and equity. The Senior Research Manager will ensure methodological rigour and translate findings into clear, actionable guidance on whether and how these tools should be used.

The Senior Research Manager will also lead a range of related projects, such as:

· Commissioning new research into the causes, risk factors and protective factors for violence.

· Contributing to the development of accessible online tools (similar to our existing Toolkit) which make this research accessible and help decision makers target support where it is most needed.

The Senior Research Manager will be part of YEF’s Research team. The Research team is at the heart of our efforts to learn what works and put it into practice. We do this by developing the YEF’s funding strategy and creating free, highly accessible research summaries and actionable recommendations for policy makers, commissioners and practitioners. We’re a high-performing team which values intellectual rigour and getting to the truth, compassion for children, ambition about what we can achieve and humility about what we know. We love to discuss the latest developments in research methods, but we’re not just interested in research for its own sake. We want research to lead to actual changes in outcomes for children.

The Role

The role is ideal for someone with strong ER and policy writing experience and good knowledge and understanding of UK employment legislation, key HR legislation and HR systems to appropriately advise and lead on ER cases. Ideally you would need to be CIPD part qualified or studying towards a qualification.

We are looking for an organised, resilient and dependable individual who has proven ability to work within a small team, as well as under their own initiative, and who can communicate effectively across the organisation both in written and oral form. 

Strong interpersonal skills with ability to listen, discuss, negotiate and provide advice on difficult, complex or sensitive issues is essential.

What will I be doing?

• First point of contact on IOP’s ER issues and responses, replying to queries in a timely manner
• Taking the lead on IOP HR policies, assessing and updating them on an ongoing basis in line with employment law changes
• Soley managing employee relations’ activities, ensuring that outcomes are proportionate, reasonable, timely and in line with legislation and the Institute’s policies
• Guiding, advising and assisting management and senior management through employee relations processes
• Providing people management advice and support to line managers, to enable them to fully undertake their people management role and ensure they are fully aware of the risks / implications associated with their decisions

Our client provides free, specialist emotional and practical support to people affected by fatal and life-changing road collisions across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire. Each year, their small but dedicated team and cohort of over 70 trained volunteer Counsellors provide life-changing support to hundreds of individuals and families coping with grief, trauma, and loss.

Following a period of significant operational change, they are seeking a dynamic, highly organised Operations Manager to strengthen their internal systems, ensure compliance, and provide essential resilience to the organisation.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the organisation's day-to-day operations. You'll manage HR processes, oversee leave and TOIL systems, coordinate policy reviews, lead procurement (IT, insurance, mobile contracts, etc.), and support internal governance and compliance.

You'll also provide vital assistance across other functions, including non-clinical training coordination and event support for their growing fundraising activity. Donnington Doorstep family centre is an independent, community-based children’s centre. The Finance and Admin Manager is a member of the Senior Management Team with an important role to play in a much loved local charity.

The Finance and Admin Manager will ensure that Donnington Doorstep maintains accurate, usable and appropriate financial systems for banking, payments, invoicing, recording and reporting. · Be directly responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient day-to-day functioning of the centre including the management of the Brazelton Centre UK premises and IT, where applicable.

· Understand the legal and reporting obligations of the Brazelton Centre UK as a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and be responsible for ensuring the Centre meets these obligations including for example filing of annual accounts.

· Work with the Board of Trustees, Director, fundraising colleagues and partner organisations to increase voluntary income to the Centre to fund and trial innovative new services and research opportunities in line with our strategy

·Ensure HR policies are reviewed and updated to ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations and best practice. Develop new policies that are fit for purpose, legally compliant, and embedded within the team. 

·Update, maintain and develop employee handbook, HR templates, processes, and systems to support the delivery of an effective HR function. 

·Manage HR systems ensuring all records are maintained accurately and comply with GDPR.

·Day to day line management of a number of the Brazelton Centre staff including the development of objectives, work plans and monitoring ongoing performance, the management of annual leave and sickness and absence monitoring.

·Oversee the entire employee lifecycle - from induction to exit - while implementing talent retention strategies, performance management systems, and succession planning. 

·Oversee organisational volunteer management, ensuring compliance with policies and alignment with strategic objectives 

·Manage grievances and disciplinary actions in accordance with policy. 

·Lead on delivery of annual training plan and annual appraisal process. 

·Oversee day-to-day office management to ensure a warm, inclusive, and safe working environment. 

·Ensure health and safety, compliance, and quality standards are consistently upheld across all HR and operational practices, fostering a safe, legally sound, and high-performing work environment

Support the planning and further development of the Brazelton Centre UK, working to continually extend the reach of our existing NBO and NBAS courses.

·Work with the Director and Board of Trustees, to develop and implement the Brazelton Centre UK’s long-term strategy, and be responsible for the development and delivery of the supporting business plan.

In line with our strategy, where relevant, support the Director to seek new projects, research and funding opportunities related to the aims of the Centre

Promote the activities of the Brazelton Centre UK in enabling the highest standards of service delivery

As required support the Director with engaging with the appropriate resources and media to promote and develop services offered by the Brazelton Centre UK.
