The National Housing Federation (NHF) is the voice of housing associations in England. We are the trade body to almost 600 housing associations, who have grown from philanthropic roots to provide 2.6 million homes to around 6 million people.
Housing associations are not for profit social landlords, and are the largest providers of homes for social rents in the country. Housing associations build around a quarter of new homes every year, including almost all new social housing.
We are recruiting two new policy officers to our 11-strong policy team.
In these role you will help policy development and influencing across our broad range of policy priorities. You will work closely with our members - drawing on their frontline expertise and experience - to shape and respond to government policy. You will build relationships with members, external stakeholders and government officials on behalf of the NHF.
You will not necessarily be a policy expert in housing yet, but you will be passionate about social housing and the role of housing associations in helping solve the housing crisis. You will have some experience of policy analysis and development, or be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to deliver this. You will be comfortable representing the NHF to stakeholders in Government, our members and elsewhere. You will be a strong collaborator, able to work with colleagues across the organization to deliver on our policy priorities.
Policy officers are flexible and can be required to work across a range of policy areas, but we are particularly looking for people with a strong interest in one or more of the following areas:
The sustainability and safety of new and existing homes
The financial and funding environment for housing associations
Resident involvement, housing management and support for tenants

Reporting to the Learned Society and Policy Manager, you will work closely with the Learned Society team and liaise with scientists and engineers, academics and industrialists, government and other institutions on a broad range of topics related to chemical and process engineering.
You will work directly with our network of expert members to develop tools to disseminate knowledge and good practice both to members and non-members.
You will have a degree in chemical engineering or a relevant science or engineering discipline with interest and/or some experience in the chemical process industries and policy. You will be comfortable working with volunteers to develop output and have a desire to really make a difference.
Key responsibilities of the Technical Knowledge and Policy Officer role include:

You’ll also be able to write clearly, persuasively and accessibly, creating reports and information that people want to read. You’ll also be able to advocate effectively for greater co-production and make a positive case for change, sensitive to the perspective of a range of stakeholders but able to find solutions and suggestions that build user involvement.
You’ll hold overall responsibility for our user voice work, overseeing the work of our User Voice Lead and ensuring that there is effective shared learning between different projects. The National Housing Federation (NHF) is the voice of housing associations in England. We are the trade body to almost 600 housing associations, who have grown from philanthropic roots to provide 2.6 million homes to around 6 million people.
Housing associations are not for profit social landlords, and are the largest providers of homes for social rents in the country. Housing associations build around a quarter of new homes every year, including almost all new social housing.
In this role you will shape and lead a long term programme of policy work on the supply of new homes, particularly social homes across England. You will work closely with our members – the nation’s largest developers of social housing – drawing on their frontline expertise and experience to shape and respond to government policy.
You will help our members secure the public investment, private finance, land and planning permission they need to build new homes. And you will hold our relationships with high profile external stakeholders including senior Government officials. There is also the possibility of line management responsibility for one or more policy officers / assistants, and a chance to lead work across other policy areas as required.
You will not necessarily be a policy expert in all areas of housing supply yet, but you will be passionate about social housing and the role of housing assocations in helping solve the housing crisis. You will have experience of shaping and leading a strategic and successful programme of policy work. You will be comfortable representing the NHF to senior stakeholders in Government, our members and elsewhere with credibility, expertise and political judgement. And you will be a strong collaborator, able to lead colleagues across the organization to deliver on our policy priorities.

Prospectus is delighted to be partnering with the Fundraising Regulator for the recruitment of a Policy Manager on a full-time permanent basis. The Fundraising Regulator was launched in summer of 2016, to promote good fundraising by charities and to protect the public from unacceptable fundraising practices, by working with the charity sector to ensure it understands its responsibility to donors. Reporting to the Head of Policy, the post holder will play a critical role in developing evidence-based policy that maintains trust and confidence in fundraising. The Policy Manager will lead and develop end-to-end policy across all areas of the regulator's business. Integral to success in this role, is the ability to bring together a variety of information streams into a cohesive and coherent source for identifying policy priorities alongside the monitoring of, civil society the charitable fundraising landscape and political and parliamentary developments.
By establishing relationships with staff in other regulators and stakeholders across the sector, you will contribute to developing the networks and partnerships that help to achieve the organisation's regulatory objectives and support the regulator's positive reputation with charities and central government. In addition to this, you will manage a small team ensuring their ongoing learning and development and play a role in offering creative ideas and solutions within the wider organisation.
To be considered for this role, you must have significant experience of working in a similar position within a charity, public body or a regulatory organisation. You will have a proven track record of building strong networks and fostering good working relationships with key decision makers and policy makers at all levels. In addition to this, you must have demonstrable experience of supporting and developing people in small teams and the capability to spearhead cross-cutting organisational projects. The right candidate will have excellent verbal and written skills and enjoy distilling and synthesising complex information and communicating the outcome for a range of audiences.
