Role based at our Head Office in London (Tooley Street, London Bridge) OR Flexible remote working with regular travel to our Head Office
What the job involves
Funding research that will improve the lives of men with, or at high risk of, prostate cancer is one of Prostate Cancer UK’s highest priorities. Prostate cancer is harming too many men, in exchange for too few cures, which is why we are motivated more than ever to deliver a future where lives are no longer harmed by prostate cancer. We invest in the most innovative ideas to accelerate our knowledge and understanding of prostate cancer, and to develop better treatments and more effective approaches to diagnose the disease, so that we can transform the lives of all men with, or at risk of, prostate cancer.
We’re looking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic Grant Manager to join our Research Directorate. This role will manage a portfolio of the charity’s active research grants, closely monitoring their progress against project timelines and provide support and advice to our grant holders, in order to optimise their delivery. You will develop a detailed understanding of the science behind these projects and build strong working relationships with the researchers and their institutions. It will be your responsibility to develop a detailed understanding of the results and outputs arising from Prostate Cancer UK’s grants and supporting the research community to successfully deliver the research we fund.
You will also help other teams within the charity understand the research we fund and work closely with colleagues to showcase our research portfolio to our supporters, demonstrating the impact of the charity’s investment in shifting the science and taking us a step closer to taming prostate cancer.
What we want from you
This is a really important role to the organisation, as research plays a significant part in our charity strategy, and so we need somebody who can hit the ground running. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about, and experienced in, research management and who has a degree in a bio-medical (or related) science subject. You should be motivated to consistently perform to the highest standards, with an eagerness to trial new ideas and continually improve the way the charity manages research grants and engages with the research community.
We are looking for someone who is a confident and clear communicator. You will be able to handle a wide range of enquiries regarding prostate cancer research, particularly in relation to research grant management, and be comfortable liaising with a variety of stakeholders, including senior researchers and colleagues.
You should be highly proficient in the use of standard IT packages, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with a meticulous attention to detail. You must also be able to manage your responsibilities independently, prioritising your workload depending on business need, whilst also working on a number of collaborative initiatives with others in the Research Directorate, as well as the wider charity.
Importantly, you must be excited and motivated about achieving major improvements for men with, or at high risk of, prostate cancer.
Why work for us?
Simply put, we believe men deserve better. They deserve a future where lives and bodies are not harmed by prostate cancer. We continue to invest millions of pounds each year into ground-breaking biomedical research and we need a highly motivated individual to effectively manage our investments and ensure that the research we fund takes us a step closer to benefitting men affected by the disease.
We have a clear focus on delivering radical improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, so that it can become a disease the next generation of men need not fear.
The support we’ll provide
Join our team and you’ll be working at an award-winning charity that will help you learn and develop your skills and expertise. We provide everything you’d expect from a professional organisation – competitive benefits package, enhanced contributory pension scheme, life insurance, season ticket loan – but much more besides. Work with us and you’ll see your efforts pay off as we fight for a better future for men.

Who we are
Our vision is a world free of preventable disease, in which everyone everywhere can reach their full potential. We were founded in 2002 with a £20m grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and started life at Imperial College London as the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative. Consistently ranked globally as one of the most cost-effective non-profit initiatives, in 2010 we received significant funding from the UK Department of International Development which has since been extended until 2022.
In 2019 we became an independent organisation, and the SCI Foundation now works across multiple sectors in several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to deliver effective and robust health programmes that have a lasting impact.
What we do
Working in partnership with Governments, the SCI Foundation supports and facilitates public health programmes that reduce the impact of preventable diseases like parasitic worm infections.
We provide technical and financial support to Ministries of Health, in line with their own strategies and plans, to enhance sustainability and strengthen health systems within countries affected by these diseases
To date, our team have supported 60% of all global schistosomiasis treatments and we are broadening our reach to coordinate with health programmes for other preventable diseases, as well as supporting disease prevention measures such as water, sanitation and hygiene and the management of the impacts of these diseases on individuals
Who we are looking for
We are looking for an exceptional person to join our friendly and dynamic team as a Donor Relations Officer to support the SCI Foundation in its next phase and fulfil its exciting new strategy.
You will have demonstrated experience of working with CRMS or donor management services and be comfortable with analysing and reporting on donor data to identify trends, produce reports, segment donors, and strategize based on your findings. You will have the ability to translate opportunities into practical plans of action and work proactively using your own initiative. Sound knowledge of statutory legislations around fundraising and data protection is essential. The successful candidate will be ambitious and have a passion for fundraising and building good relationships with existing investors and donors, whilst responding to their requests in a timely manner.
