Your role

You will be an integral part of a busy, professional and customer service focused Information and Communication Technology (ICT) team, with a strong culture of providing tools for staff to do their job well and to optimise business processes. Brief role description

We are looking for a Policy Manager to join our dynamic and well-respected policy team. Our team’s mission is to ensure people affected by dementia benefit from the progress in research, by providing evidence and insights to influence decision-makers. This ranges from making the case to increase investment in dementia research, promoting the concept of good Brain Health to reduce the risk of developing dementia through to preparing health systems to be ready for future dementia treatments.

Policy and Public Affairs team encourages creativity and new ways of doing things. The post holder will have opportunities to take initiative and work on projects that take the charity in new directions. The postholder will report to the Head of Policy (Access and Innovation), working across the wider Policy and Public Affairs team. The team takes a matrix approach to our work, using the skills and expertise across the team to maximise impact of a project. The role is based near Cambridge and will include work in London and elsewhere in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

Portfolio

As an agile organisation the portfolio of the team is constantly evolving. Currently focus areas for the role will be :

· Increase government investment in dementia research, working with Alzheimer’s Research UK’s research team to articulate priorities for spending and ensure we have robust policy proposals which government can implement. There will be a particular focus on clinical trial infrastructure and recruiting a more diverse range of participants in research

· Clinical engagement, by managing and growing our clinical engagement activities and the planning of our annual clinical conference.

· Strengthening the team’s patient and public involvement and engagement work. This will involve champion PPI across the wider team, managing our current public and patient forums and leading a programme of work to ensure our engagement is innovative and sector leading. 

· Leading work to ensure our Stats Hub is accurate, timely and best supports our policy and data analysis work.

Policy development

· To develop and manage programmes of work on key strategic policy areas that position ARUK as a key influencer both nationally and internationally.  This may include the commissioning of external evidence generation.

· Provide expertise on the relevant evidence, insight and policy context to enable the development of new innovative policy ideas and solutions that deliver on our strategic priorities.

· Manage the development of substantial and credible policy outputs, including briefings, reports, submissions to government departments and their agencies, parliamentary committees, and other UK and international organisations as appropriate.

· Working with the communications team to ensure our policy work is disseminated to our key audiences via a range of appropriate channels in order to maximise our reach and impact.

· Develop and maintain mechanisms to keep abreast of the policy environment relevant to the portfolio of the post.

· Analyse, interpret and make judgements on complex project activities, delegating and managing the policy advisors to achieve set deliverables through their management of day-to-day activities. Stakeholder engagement and management

· To develop and manage stakeholder engagement of key policy contacts, developing relationships within the research and the wider clinical field across a range of organisations.

· Actively promote patient and public involvement in the development and delivery of projects.

· Work with Public Affairs colleagues to strengthen existing and emerging relationships with political and other parliamentary stakeholders to maximise the impact of our policy work.

· To attend external working groups and help develop partnerships beneficial to ARUK.

· Work with other charities to ensure ARUK is playing a leadership role in shaping government medical research policy.

Research and data analysis

· To oversee the analysis of necessary data and understanding, working with other ARUK colleagues, to produce accurate, timely and insightful policy materials, briefings and media stories.

· To line manage and develop a Policy Advisor, providing coaching mentoring and performance management as appropriate.

The Taskforce has over 50 members including patients, carers, healthcare professionals, the voluntary sector and professional associations. An Industries Forum working alongside the Taskforce includes representatives from the pharmaceutical, diagnostics, devices and digital industries. 

Senior Policy and Engagement Officer – Taskforce for Lung Health

This role will support the Taskforce to deliver its ambitious programme of activity for 2026, working collaboratively with members and partners to deliver meaningful change for people with respiratory conditions.  You will lead and drive forward Taskforce policy and influencing work across priority areas, producing high-quality evidence-based outputs, working in collaboration with Taskforce members and partners, including patients, clinicians, other charities and corporate partners. You will develop the Taskforce’s engagement strategy, identifying opportunities to increase engagement and harness the potential of our collective endeavours to drive improvements in care for people with respiratory conditions, building strong working relationships with key stakeholders. This role can be either Office based or Remote based.

Senior Policy Officer – Asthma + Lung UK

Reporting to the Health Policy Manager, you will carry out proactive policy and influencing work across a range of health policy areas related to NHS services, treatment and care for lung conditions. You will work closely with other policy team members to influence change, and draft impactful policy positions and recommendations, using research, patient experience, clear analysis and strong arguments. You will work with a range of important external stakeholders, building strong relationships and influencing positive change. This role is Office based only. 

For both roles                                         

You will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, strong relationship management skills, and the ability to plan and prioritise your workload efficiently. You will have experience of developing robust policy positions and campaigning for policy change. How are staff supported to work remotely? 

VoiceAbility has a small number of offices. Employees including Team Leaders are homebased for Administration and meetings will be held online as well as in person in the relevant community. 

When you need to travel for work, expenses will be paid (mileage or public transport costs).

Person Specification

• Excellent relationship building and proposal writing skills. Experience in Trust fundraising or an equivalent field is desirable but not essential.

• Confident with numbers and interpreting project budgets. Some knowledge of Trust fundraising is desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Relationship Management

• Provide tailored, high-quality stewardship to a range of large and medium-sized Trusts & Foundations.
• Identify and pursue new funding opportunities and build relationships with new Trusts and Foundations to further grow this income stream.
• Prioritise research to constantly develop future pipeline.
• Work with Head of Philanthropy and other senior stakeholders in engaging potential funders and managing strategic Trusts partners.

Write applications and reports

• Develop compelling funding applications for Trusts and occasionally statutory funders, articulating Resurgo's vision and strategy to persuasively engage new donors with a focus on raising five and six-figure grants.
• Stay ahead of sector trends, media, and political context to market Resurgo's interventions in a compelling way.
• Develop general communications on the work of Resurgo to inspire and update our Trust audience.
• Produce reports and updates on the impact of our work for funders in a timely manner. 

Data Management and Monitoring

• Update our internal database (Salesforce) with all donor interactions, donations and other details in a timely and efficient manner and with strong attention to detail, and analyse data to give insights' and drive future activity.
• Manage the Trusts & Foundations pipeline and report on income and other KPIs, and ensure Trusts & Foundations team meets monthly targets and deadlines.

Line Management

• Actively manage and develop the Trusts & Foundations Executive to help them grow personally and in their role.

Role Summary

The Finance Officer will support the Finance and Operations team and regional teams with key areas of responsibility around financial administration and general office and governance administration tasks.

Role and responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

Financial Administration - (95% of role):

Supporting the Finance team with

o Day-to-day financial administration

o Bookkeeping on Xero, raising invoices, chasing debtors, dealing with supplier statements

o Ensuring correct VAT categorisations.

o Tracking expenditure on Xero in accordance with funder requirements

o Processing monthly expenses and petty cash claims

o Responsible for preparation of the weekly payment run (approval max and Xero)

o Day-to-day financial administration

o Banking of cheques

o Managing control accounts for CAF, Charities trust, and Justgiving

o Managing shopify, worldpay, stripe, paypal and other payment processing platforms

o Organising card machines for events

Administration: (5% of role)

Some tasks listed below are less frequent and ad-hoc.

o Opening post and electronic filing

o Weekly franking of post, topping up funds when required and taking post to nearby post office

o Supporting the Director of Finance and Operations with preparation of board and audit committee papers and materials, minutes and actions

o Supporting the finance and operations team with writing and editing documents and presentations and arranging online and in-person meetings as required.
