Community Advice Works is an established community charity based in New Cross in South
East London. As the only charity in the London Borough of Lewisham offering a general
drop-in advice service, we are a critical source of support to vulnerable residents. We have
built a strong reputation within the Borough for providing high quality, independent, person-
centred welfare and housing advice. The organisation employs several part-time staff and
has a team of volunteers. In addition to providing advice we currently deliver a domestic
violence project at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital.

Like many charities in the advice sector, CAW is going through a process of change. We are
looking for an experienced and community-driven individual with a strong set of managerial
and interpersonal skills, preferably with a background in advice work, to maintain the strong
structures and reputation for excellence that we have developed.

As service manager, you will work with our friendly staff and trustee team to deliver our vital
service. We pride ourselves on providing a flexible, inclusive and rewarding work

to us, and we are looking for a service manager who shares our commitment to community
and public service - whether your experience is the public, private or charity sector.

Key duties

• Staff and volunteer management
• Line manage staff by providing support and supervision as needed, conducting regular performance reviews, and identifying staff training needs
• Oversee recruitment, training, and management of volunteers to ensure they are properly supported and equipped to help meet CAW’s service goals

Service delivery

• Ensure high quality and timely service delivery in line with the Service Level Agreements with our various service partners
• Identify any issues with service delivery and help develop cost-effective solutions to them as appropriate
• Compile and maintain accurate statistics on service performance to share with funders and CAW trustees
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with our key service partners through regular engagement, including attendance at regular service partnership meetings
• Engage regularly with our funders and other key stakeholders to build and maintain positive working relationships, and provide them with timely reporting on our service performance as needed 
•  Update service level agreements with existing funders, and draft new agreements as needed
•  Interact with clients as needed in a friendly and professional manner

Administration and Finance

• Ensure day-to-day administrative processes are functioning smoothly, and that necessary policies and procedures are up to date
• Line manage work of receptionist/administrative support worker

Fundraising and Marketing

• Help identify new funding and other revenue-raising opportunities
• Support the work of the fundraising sub-committee in preparing funding applications
• Work with trustees and external vendors to ensure CAW website is kept up-to-date
• Work with trustees and external vendors (as appropriate) to develop a social media presence for CAW
• Identifying and supporting efforts to increase CAW’s profile in the local community and to build relationships with key local stakeholders as appropriate Governance
• Prepare monthly reports for the trustees on service performance
• Maintain good lines of communication with trustees on all operational matters
• Attend trustee board meetings as needed

Essential criteria

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managerial role
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•  Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, including ability to manage a diverse range of working relationships in an effective, empathetic but professional manner
• Experience of working in a busy environment, managing competing work pressures and prioritising tasks appropriately to ensure key deadlines are met
• Strong attention to detail
• Experience preparing reports and compiling service statistics
• Ability to think strategically, to identify problems and devise effective solutions
• Ability to work on own initiative, within established practices and procedures

Then this could be the role for you. At the Digital Poverty Alliance, we are looking for our new Policy & Insights Manager. You must be able to inspire us and our partners and spearhead our public affairs work, including through our National Delivery Plan to unite action to end digital poverty by 2030.

We bring together charities, corporates and government to address the underlying issues stopping families gaining full access to digital services such as education, healthcare and employment. We seek social change through our National Delivery Plan, whilst also delivering solutions in local areas that help real people and provide evidence for change. 

This is an exciting, high profile and fast-paced role, joining our small team and working alongside partners, National Delivery Committee members and our wider stakeholders to effect real change for people. You will report directly to the Chief Executive, working alongside our Head of External Affairs.

A big part of our social change ambition is delivered through our public affairs work; influencing policy makers so that our ambitions are shared with government, companies and with everyone able to deliver to our vision of a world where everyone is able to connect successfully with the digital world where and when they want to.  You will also be responsible for drafting white papers, analysing trends and data, and identifying new insights.  You will support our Industry Forum, working with existing and new members to broaden the group.

The DPA aims to work through partners in delivering to our core mission and, as such, we retain only a small core team with support from our PR agency. As such, you’ll lead on delivering our policy and public affairs work, from briefing MPs to developing our policy positions.

Whilst the role is remote based, you will regularly need to attend in-person meetings and events in central London (daytime and evening), as well as undertaking travel across the UK. Given the need to attend meetings in Westminster and Whitehall, you will need to live within commuting distance of London.

Key focus areas

• Building relationships with public, private and third sector organisations, including the wider DPA community.
• Working to convene and collaborate with organisations and individuals committed to ending digital poverty.
• Work with colleagues across local, regional and national governments and across political parties to advocate for policies to promote digital inclusion.
• Undertaking research and analysis to understand digital poverty and the impact of policies to address it.
• Managing policy and research projects including the ongoing development of the national delivery plan and supporting ‘proof of concept’ projects.
• Developing commercial and research partnerships with organisations and supporting the development of the industry forum.
• Communicating the DPA vision and perspective through verbal and written communication.

The Senior Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager plays a leadership role in team management, development, and delivery of ARUK’s influencing strategy. The role leads a highly engaged and high-performing team that brings the work of Alzheimer’s Research UK to life and rallies people to our cause, devising powerful campaigns and building support among decision makers to invest in dementia research and ensure people with dementia can benefit from breakthroughs.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is a leading voice on dementia and research, and this postholder will develop a credible and comprehensive public affairs and campaigns strategy for the charity and oversee external stakeholder engagement activity with Government and decision makers. They will lead a team covering, public affairs and campaigns functions.

The Senior Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager brings expertise in developing influential campaigns, political engagement programmes, and devising strategies to achieve change in Government and NHS policy and practice.

The Senior Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager reports into the Head of Policy and Public Affairs and works closely with the colleagues across Policy, Communications, and Information and Involvement to ensure that Alzheimer’s Research UK continues to be positioned as the go-to organisation on dementia and dementia research. It would be advantageous for the postholder to be experienced at people management and working across multiple projects, bringing the drive to seek out new and proactive opportunities for the department and wider charity.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Leadership of the Public Affairs and Campaigns team, line managing two Managers and a total team of 4 people.

· Manage the day-to-day budgeting and reforecasting process, with an expenditure budget of circa £100,000, ensuring that the team operates cost effectively in meeting its objectives.

· Lead the development of a programme of influencing work, ensuring the team deliver high quality, impactful outputs such as Parliamentary events, Party Conference activities and other compelling activities that raise awareness of dementia, and drive investment in dementia research.

· Leadership of cross-organisational groups to deliver the strategic and influencing priorities for ARUK

· Represent ARUK on coalitions and external working groups as appropriate.

· Provide strong leadership and support as part of the wider the Policy and Public Affairs department, through coaching, mentoring and developing individuals to deliver an effective and efficient external influencing. function.

· Facilitate team building and collaborative working to deliver strategic and operational plans.

Public Affairs

· Work with the Head of Policy and Public Affairs and through their team, to deliver organisational strategy and develop positioning on key parliamentary and policy issues.

· Advise Alzheimer’s Research UK on effective political positioning to achieve our goals; working to ensure we are able to successfully influence key Government policy and decisions

· Build and maintain effective relationships with decision-makers and opinion formers including in Government and in Parliament.

· Develop and deliver a public affairs strategy for Alzheimer’s Research UK, working closely with their team, with a range of creative tactics that create pressure, build momentum and drive forward our influence in Parliament and with Government and opposition parties.

· Ensure ARUK has a meaningful role in shaping future legislation on dementia and scientific research.

· Work with the Head of Policy and Public Affairs to develop a synergistic Public Affairs and Campaigns strategy that embeds and exploits our policy work

· Lead responses and briefings on key legislation and guidance, including proposed drafting amendments where appropriate.

· Lead public affairs activity around Parliamentary set pieces e.g King’s Speech, Budget, General Elections and Party Conferences, to ensure that ARUK is positioned as one of the most influential charities in Parliament

· Oversee systems and processes within the team to develop high quality parliamentary briefs, develop submissions for parliamentary questions and to rapidly respond to other opportunities presented through the parliamentary system.

· Work closely with Parliamentarians, managing a programme of meetings and other parliamentary activities that maintain dementia research as a political priority for Government.

· Work across Policy and Public Affairs teams to ensure there is good co-ordination and communication of policy throughout the charity in order to foster a shared understanding of ARUK’s policies and issues.

· Responsible for providing written and in person briefings to colleagues who are attending Parliamentary and political meetings, including roundtables and select committee meetings

Stakeholder Engagement

· Provide leadership to the public affairs team and work closely with colleagues to grow political engagement in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

· Work across the organisation to develop stakeholder management processes and mechanisms that help us to manage and derive insights from key organisational relationships.

· Play a key role in developing ARUK’s influencing stakeholder contact programme and identifying opportunities and strategies to improve engagement.

· Supervise a programme of parliamentary engagement for the Chief Executive, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director of Policy and Communications, working in conjunction with the Head of Governance and Head of Policy and Public Affairs.

Campaigns

· Ensure compliance with Charity Commission guidance, and other legislation on charities’ lobbying activities.

· Develop and implement campaign strategies that deliver against ARUK policy objectives.

· Grow digital campaigns and public affairs opportunities, building our reach and engagement with key audiences.

· Manage and grow a supporter-based campaigning network, online and offline, to advocate on behalf of ARUK, including the involvement of people affected by dementia.

· To work with the Head of Public Affairs and wider team to develop campaign ideas with key audiences that deliver against ARUK policy objectives.

What we are looking for:

· Experience working in a public affairs, campaigns, parliamentary leadership or strategy role in a national organisation in the private, public, or voluntary sector.

· Experience working extensively in politics, political communications agency or charities influencing on complex health, science or policy issues.

· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and an understanding of how to influence and use the media, including thought leadership.

· Extensive experience developing and delivering multi-media and multi-channel campaign strategies to reach both mass and specialist audiences.

· Experience leading market research and user insight projects to shape campaigns and messaging.

· Knowledge of how to develop inclusive communications, particularly working with people affected by dementia.

· Detailed understanding of the medical research environment.

· Strong leadership skills and experience of managing diverse teams.

· Excellent organisational skills; the ability to manage a large number of tasks to meet multiple deadlines.

· Exemplary leadership with both short and long term strategic vision 

· Excellent communicator with an ability to build relationships and inspire confidence and respect at all levels. Demonstrates strong negotiation and decision making skills Ability to explain complex information to all stakeholders

· Excellent listening skills, receptive to feedback and demonstrates flexibility, curiosity and an ability to learn

Additional Information:

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

They will lead a team covering policy across our whole portfolio: prevention and Brain Health, early detection and diagnosis, dementia research, access to new treatments and clinical engagement.

The Senior Policy Manager plays a vital leadership role in the team management and delivery of ARUK’s influencing strategy. The role leads a highly engaged and high-performing policy team that brings Alzheimer’s Research UK’s influencing priorities to life. Through our deep expertise and understanding of what needs to change for people with dementia, we advocate for greater investment in dementia research, greater government action to protect Brain Health and better pathways and practice in the NHS to ensure people with dementia can benefit from breakthroughs. The Senior Policy Manager brings expertise in developing policy positions, producing compelling and influential policy publications and leading the team to develop new thinking and solutions on dementia and dementia research. The Senior Policy Manager reports into the Head of Policy and Public Affairs and works closely with colleagues across our Communications, and Information and Involvement teams to ensure that Alzheimer’s Research UK continues to be positioned as the go-to organisation on dementia and dementia research. The postholder will be experienced at managing people to achieve impact and working across multiple projects.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Leadership of the Policy team, line managing four Managers and a team of around 9 people.

· Provide a high level of expertise on dementia and dementia research across the organisation and externally, through leadership of the policy team.

· Lead the delivery, from conception to launch, of influential policy publications of the highest quality that have significant external and media impact.

· Leadership of working groups to deliver the strategic and influencing priorities for ARUK.

· Responsible for producing and maintaining policy briefings for senior colleagues, often at short notice, to support their attendance at meetings with key stakeholders.

· Representation of ARUK on external working groups, at events, and in the media.

· Provide strong leadership and support to the Policy team, through coaching, mentoring and developing individuals to create a thriving policy function.

· Work with policy managers to develop and implement a structured programme of policy work that identifies the key factors that need to change in order to ensure that the Government is taking action to ensure a pioneering and protective dementia research ecosystem, protect Brain Health, ensure people receive an early and accurate diagnosis of dementia, and new treatments are made available without delay, bringing new innovative policy ideas and solutions to make this happen.

· Identify policy areas in which ARUK is seeking greatest action and develop strategies to influence and effect positive change, ensuring a coherent narrative and strategy sitting across our various programmes of policy work.

· Commission strategic research projects or commission analysis to further the aims of the organisation.

· Responsible for working closely with the Information and Involvement team to ensure the involvement of people affected by dementia in the development of ARUK’s policy priorities and positions.

Stakeholder relations and influencing

· Support the development of the department’s influencing strategy and deliver policy work that provides a strong evidence base and clear recommendations for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

· Work across the organisation to develop good forward planning and stakeholder management processes and mechanisms that help us to manage and derive insights from key organisational relationships and maximise the impact of our influencing work.

· Represent ARUK to a range of decision-makers and stakeholders; this will involve participating in public events, making presentations and acting as a media spokesperson.

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. Purpose of the Project Manager role:

About the opportunity
Corporate partnerships are critical to delivering our mission and ensuring we can support as many children and young people facing disadvantage to open doors to their future. The Philanthropy Team as a whole has a combined target income for the current year (2023-24) of £1.83 million (growing to £2.35m as our target for next year) of which approximately £850k is from corporate donors and their foundations. We have been successful year on year in increasing our fundraising base by building secure multi-year partnerships. Part of our growth strategy is looking at building stronger relationships with corporate partners, having established a strong multi-year relationship for the first time this year worth £500k annually. We have a great ability to measure and quantify its impact, which we are looking to better communicate and leverage with current and potential corporate partners.

We’re looking for a Corporate Partnerships Manager to lead on our corporate partnership activities and initiatives, including growing income from corporate partners as well as increasing the number of corporate volunteer tutor applications we receive from them. Working within our Philanthropy Team, the Corporate Partnerships Manager will be responsible for the line-management and development of two Corporate Partnership Coordinators, ensuring that, as a team, you meet your corporate income and volunteer application targets. Your focus will be on deepening and leveraging relationships with our existing partners, alongside engaging new organisations with our mission and vision.

About Bite Back 2030 

We’re surrounded by junk food. From the moment we're born, every second of every day, children are being targeted. Giant companies manipulate them with colourful, cuddly, clever marketing, deceive them with packaging claims and pump products at them that are full of junk. It's become the cultural wallpaper. Now, it risks endangering the health of a generation.

In the UK, nearly a third of children aged 2-15 face a higher risk of food-related ill health in their futures. The good news is, it's preventable. And we're biting back.

Bite Back is a youth activist movement challenging a food system that's been set up to fool us all by:

1) Calling out the manipulation of the junk food giants.

2) Demanding higher standards from food marketing and from everyday food itself.

3) Mobilising and equipping young people in the fight for better food.

We do all this so we can bite back against a global epidemic of food-related ill health.

About Bite Back in Schools 

Bite Back has delivered our youth social action programme — Bite Back in Schools— to over 120 schools over the last two years. Working with secondary schools, we have supported over 2,000 11-14 year olds to plan and deliver social action projects to prioritise child health by improving their school food. This could be by making nutritious and sustainable food the norm by increasing the flow of healthy options in their canteens, or by redesigning the school food experience to put healthy options in the spotlight.

With funding awarded from the #iWill Fund, we are recruiting a brilliant cohort of schools who will join the programme in September 2024. Our programme model combines an assembly delivered by a Bite Back young ambassador, five hours of curriculum time sessions for a whole year group, and our ever-popular and impactful School Food Champions (SFC) extra-curricular club. Role Description

The Programmes Manager plays a key role supporting our community of schools during their time on the programme. They will support the design and lead on the delivery of Bite Back in Schools to ensure the best possible user experience for young people, their teachers and their schools, and to ensure the programme makes the greatest possible impact.

The Programmes Manager  will report to the Head of Programmes, and will work closely with colleagues across Bite Back, in particular with our comms, digital, youth and policy teams, working within our Strategy and Delivery Function. 

Key responsibilities include:

Relationship management

• Provide ongoing support to schools throughout their time on the programme, building strong working relationships with participating schools. 

• Lead communication with all schools, being the first point of contact for the coordinator and lead teacher in each school.

• Support monitoring and evaluation through creation of surveys, ensuring completion of baseline and end of year surveys, and analysis of data submitted (in partnership with our external evaluators).

• Book and arrange assemblies, coordinating between schools and our Bite Back Ambassadors.

Community management 

• Celebrate and share examples of best practice and impactful social action projects amongst our community of schools.

• Design and deliver training and webinars for schools.

• Lead on the design and delivery of competitions for schools.

• Schedule and organise visits to schools, agreeing agendas with the schools in advance to include elements including meeting pupils and teachers, leading feedback sessions and focus groups and supporting the development of their social action campaigns.

• Drafting of termly newsletters and regular emails to schools.

• Create case studies and collate material to share with our comms and digital teams.

• Encourage teachers and pupils to use the new Bite Back digital platform to share their stories and projects, and take part in broader Bite Back campaigns.

• Grow our movement - supporting the recruitment of future cohorts by promoting the Bite Back in Schools programme, distributing recruitment comms, holding set up calls with interested schools, and guiding schools through the application and enrolment process, working closely with the Head of Programmes on the design of these processes.

Project management of systems and operational support

• Manage the SFC inbox, dealing with enquiries from schools and other partners.

• Process invoices related to the programme, liaising between schools and the Bite Back accounts team, and monitoring the monthly total payments made to schools.

• Manage the budget for specific areas of programme expenditure, such as merchandise and Ambassador training. 

• Creating and uploading new high quality session plans, resources and materials to our digital  platform as required.

• Design and maintain reporting systems to monitor levels of engagement of individual schools, flagging concerns and proactively finding ways to mitigate issues to ensure schools remain on the programme.

• Management of programmes section of Bite Back CRM system, keeping data up to date and accurate, and developing reports to share programme data with team and funders.

Programme design and improvement

• Identifying opportunities to optimise the potential of our programmes and proactively making suggestions for continuous improvement to our user experience, programme design and systems. 

• Proactively seek feedback on customer satisfaction, impact and service improvement and use this to inform suggestions for improvements.

• Feed your ideas into programme delivery and development.

• Support new pilots and interventions, including testing innovative ideas on the ground, as requested to enable Bite Back to develop our suite of programmes and maximise opportunities for new work to further our mission across the school sector.

Skills / Experience (required)

The ideal candidate would have the following experience and qualities:

• Strong organisational and project management skills, with excellent time management, ability to manage competing priorities and attention to detail

• Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to adapt messages and language to resonate with different audiences.

• A proven record of building relationships across sectors, with young people and adults.

• Experience of creating resources which are engaging for young people and simple to deliver for teachers 

• Strong understanding of the education sector and experience of working with schools and teachers. 

• Experience of youth facilitation and / or delivering training. 

You will be able to show the following qualities:

• A bold and open mind - you will be prepared to think differently about issues.

• A level head - you will be comfortable working both reactively and proactively.

Skills / experience (desired):

• Experience of working with CRM systems particularly Salesforce.

• Experience in drafting compelling copy and uploading content to digital platforms.

• Interest in campaigning, social justice, food, and child health. 

• Experience of managing budgets.

About the role

This important role oversees the commissioning, production and governance of a wide range of films, multimedia content and photographic work, delivering a regular stream of content across channels for a range of audiences.

About you

You’ll be comfortable operating in the documentary film world with the ability to build relationships with documentary filmmakers, producers and funders. Managing end to end production and projects, you’ll create films which deliver and show successfully our impactful campaigns.

Finally, you’ll have a strong affinity to Global Witness’ values, working collaboratively internally and externally to achieve maximum impact.
