Responsibilities and Person Specification:
The Influencing Assistant will work across our influencing functions – public affairs, campaigns and media communications – to achieve positive change for older people facing financial hardship.
You should have excellent organisational skills with the ability to stay on top of a varied and busy workload. You’ll also be able to build relationships effectively, including with volunteers and people with lived experience.

The Role

The Events & Enterprises Assistant will be expected to work within the diverse and inclusive ethos of Southwark Cathedral. Role Overview
The Events & Enterprises Assistant is an exciting role offering both administrative and practical support to the Cathedral and its trading company Southwark Cathedral Enterprises Limited (SCEL). The post-holder will provide key administrative support to the COO, who is Company Secretary of SCEL, as well as giving broad practical support to the Head of Events to help deliver the special events and commercial meeting-room business.
The post-holder will provide support to the Head of Events in the delivery of a colourful programme of special events in the Cathedral space. Each year we hold a number of private parties, dinners and fundraising events as well as concerts, memorial events and carol services. The Head of Events holds the responsibility for converting special event enquiries into confirmed visits, relationship management and this post will share event management ‘on the day’, to ensure the smooth and safe delivery of often complex largescale events. Most often working one year ahead of the event, the post-holder will provide administrative and operational support for preparations and the delivery of the events by completion of operational notes, RAMS or similar.
Additionally, the Events & Enterprises Assistant will be responsible for the effective day- to-day management of commercial bookings for the Cathedral’s meeting rooms. Our conference business, comprising three main meeting rooms of varying sizes, has a wide client base drawn from the commercial, government, charity and national health sectors and many of the bookings are repeat business. The meeting rooms have an excellent reputation and are popular with clients and for managing the clients’ experience from initial enquiry to final invoice. The post-holder will provide a welcome to clients on arrival, 3 ensuring that their room, IT and catering specifications have been met and manage their requirements during their stay.
They will also work closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager on communications campaigns which are relevant to the Cathedral’s conference and special events business activity.
The post-holder will support the work of the Board of Enterprises by organising the annual schedule of Board meetings – booking meeting rooms, setting up technology and refreshments on the day, attending and minuting meetings and acting as a point of contact for members of the Board. The Assistant Director of Income Generation is responsible for driving income and engagement across our fundraising portfolio, including Individual Giving, Legacy, Community, Corporate, Trusts and Major Donors. Ensuring we build and develop a breadth of strong relationships with supporters, and deliver a calendar of impactful appeals, fundraising activities and compelling propositions that maximise income and life time value. Role responsibilities

Purpose of the job
To drive forward Thames21’s ‘Thames Valley’ (broadly Oxfordshire/ Buckinghamshire/ Berkshire) catchment areas programme in line with our 5-year plan and future strategies ensuring appropriate integration across Thames21 and partner organisations. This includes building and sustaining a team to reduce diffuse pollution, increase biodiversity, improve water quality, and support agricultural businesses to deliver environmental improvement works and nature friendly farming practices.
The postholder requires operational experience and knowledge at catchment scale as well as project and people management experience. They will take a strategic overview of the programme and guide our growth in the thematical and geographical area, with a particular focus on the following outcomes.
- Work with 20 farmers each year to reduce diffuse pollution at source and flood risk.
- Offer advice on nature-based solutions and grant funding to farmers and landowners.
- Plant 30,000 trees annually.
- Input and support the achievement of other applicable 5-year plan targets. i.e. River restoration and catchment scale monitoring.
- Increase Thames21 presence in the Thames Valley, identifying opportunities, supporting, and complimenting the work of other NGOs and regional Rivers Trusts.
The role is a relatively new area of work for Thames21 and may consist of supporting a range of projects and programmes including Catchment Partnerships, Farm Clusters and Natural Flood Management.
Finally, the postholder will take a lead in progressing Thames21’s resilience strategy i.e. working closely with the Fundraising Team, the Catchment Partnership Team, and partner organisations to increase private and public investment to deliver healthy resilient rivers and catchments.
Additional requirements may include supporting other Thames21 projects and funding applications, as the need arises.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You will oversee and manage the delivery of diverse projects. You will also develop your team’s scope, strategy and action plan in order to grow the team to deliver 5-year plan targets work closely with expert (e.g. statutory bodies, authorities, NGOs and academics) and non-expert (e.g. community groups and volunteers) stakeholders to develop, fund and deliver projects within the catchments, and oversee their management. Working closely with the Financial Accountant and wider finance team, you will take responsibility for key accounting processes including payroll, tax, treasury management, and monthly financial reconciliations. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining the integrity of financial systems and ensuring accurate, timely accounting entries and reconciliations
