40% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard - many of these children fall behind with reading simply because they lack the opportunity to practise.

Chapter One is a small but growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3,300 children in 2024-25.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

This role is an exciting opportunity for someone to contribute to the work of our fast-growing charity. You will work as part of the Chapter One Support Team, ensuring that our online reading volunteers have everything that they need - from onboarding to assisting with ID checks and responding to email queries. You will be the first point of contact for our online reading volunteers, so excellent customer service skills and a genuine interest in helping others is essential.

Reporting to the Performance and Data Manager, you will work for 25-30 hours a week (Monday to Friday) and will need to be available for an 09:30 am start each morning. You will work remotely, but must be located in the United Kingdom at the time of applying and whilst working. You will need to have access to a reliable internet connection. The start date for this role is 1st July 2024.

This role is ideal for someone home-based who wishes to work part-time in a fast-paced and varied administrative role.

The Major Gifts Stewardship Assistant is responsible for an existing portfolio of approximately 150+ individual, trust, and corporate donor relationships. Main responsibilities include:

Thames Reach’s Outreach teams operate across London and helps those who are rough sleeping to find routes away from the street. The teams respond rapidly and work flexibly to reach people. Prostate cancer is harming too many men, in exchange for too few cures, which is why we are motivated more than ever to deliver a future where prostate cancer is no longer limiting men’s lives. We invest in the most innovative research which will expand our understanding of prostate cancer and one day improve the lives of men with the disease. Recently we announced the funding of the TRANSFORM study, a £42 million programme to trial on a national scale new ways to screen for prostate cancer. It’s through this initiative that we intend to generate the definitive evidence needed to underpin a national screening programme for prostate cancer which could save thousands of men’s lives each year.

What the job involves

As a Diagnosis Research Lead, you’ll oversee the management of the TRANSFORM study on behalf of the charity, closely monitoring progress and spend against project timelines/budgets and regularly reporting back to key stakeholders internally and externally about this exciting initiative. You’ll regularly liaise with the study leads and the wider network of collaborators, as well as set up and oversee the management of the governance steering committees for the programme.

You’ll develop a detailed understanding of our portfolio of research and the wider diagnostic research landscape for prostate cancer, establishing and maintaining relationships with relevant research groups and companies working in the diagnostic space. This role will also involve working closely with colleagues in our communications and fundraising directorates to showcase the TRANSFORM study to public, scientific and healthcare professional audiences, demonstrating our research efforts towards achieving earlier and accurate diagnosis. 

What we want from you

We believe the TRANSFORM study will generate practice-changing evidence to support screening for prostate cancer, with the potential to save thousands of men’s lives in the UK each year. This is therefore a critical role to us. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about, and experienced in, research grant management and in particular, the management and delivery of multi-site clinical trials.

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about research and able to understand and communicate complex scientific information found in applications, progress reports, research papers and presentations. You’ll be a confident and clear communicator, able to build strong working relationships and provide valuable support to a wide range of stakeholders, including senior researchers, senior colleagues, trustees, corporate partners and committee members.

With experience in project management, you’ll have an ability to organise and prioritise a diverse workload depending on business need, delivering to stipulated timeframes whilst consistently maintaining the highest standards, with a meticulous attention to detail. This role will also require you to be proficient in the use of standard IT packages (most notably Microsoft Office), ideally with experience of grant management software such as Symplectic Grant Tracker.

Importantly, you must be excited and motivated about achieving major improvements for men with, or at high risk of, prostate cancer.

The Chartered College of Teaching is a a charity and the professional body for teachers. We are working to empower a knowledgeable and respected teaching profession through membership and accreditation.

We are dedicated to bridging the gap between practice and research and equipping teachers from the moment they enter the classroom with the knowledge and confidence to make the best decisions for their pupils.

Our activities mainly focus on four key areas:

• membership
• teacher accreditation
• teacher CPD
• online and print resources

Since opening membership in 2017, we have grown rapidly. In total our work reaches nearly 50,000 teachers and more than 3 million young people. In 2020 we published reports ‘Education in Times of Crisis’ around the impact of lockdown which have since been cited in educational reports and academic papers; in 2021 we won the Memcom award for ‘Best magazine for a Professional Association or Membership Organisation’; in 2022 we celebrated the graduation of over 246 teachers from our Chartered Teacher and Chartered Teacher (Leadership) pathways. We are a growing and multi-skilled team of 30 people, supported by a Board with a significant track record of experience in a range of fields. Our business plan focuses on growing membership and Chartered programmes and providing meaningful professional learning opportunities for the teaching profession. This role will support us to deliver an excellent service to our members and those engaged with our CPD pathways, publications and research activity.

Requirements

We are looking to recruit a Head of Member Acquisition and Engagement on a part-time contract. This is an exciting new role that will play a key part in our continued growth and will make a real impact on the teaching profession; we are looking for someone who believes in our mission and the work we do.

Working closely with the Deputy Chief Executive, Associate Director: Partnerships and the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Head of Member Acquisition and Engagement will take a lead on activity related to attracting and retaining our individual teacher members, including developing, rolling out and evaluating recruitment and retention programmes, initiatives and campaigns for current and prospective members. The successful candidate will be confident using data to inform decision-making and monitor progress towards membership growth targets and have the ability to work well independently and within a team.

Main area of work

The majority of your time will be spent developing, implementing and evaluating strategies to secure individual membership growth, including through retaining current members and attracting new members.

The role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships externally and working with a range of colleagues across the organisation. You’ll be an expert on our products and services, and you’ll use our CRM system and other data sources to understand membership trends, challenges and opportunities.

You will ensure the Chartered College of Teaching is responsive to the needs of the sector, making sure that we understand our members and ensuring that every member gets maximum value from engagement with our products and services.

Additional areas of work

• Working closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager, planning recruitment campaigns and strategising content and resources for membership initiatives
• With the Associate Director: Partnerships, ensuring join-up between group membership sales and individual member sales
• Promoting and representing the Chartered College to potential members at events
• Working with the Membership Manager to ensure a seamless experience for members from their first interaction with us
• Recording, presenting, formatting and analysing data in a variety of ways to report to colleagues and stakeholders, including against KPIs.
• Performing other activities as and when required to support the wider team to achieve the charity’s goals.

Alongside your main areas of work, you will also participate in meetings and be encouraged to participate in CPD learning activities and training to maintain and develop your knowledge and skills.

You don’t need to have expertise in absolutely all areas, but we’re looking for someone who is motivated by our vision and truly passionate about membership growth and supporting teachers. Systems you would be using include Salesforce, DotDigital, Google Workspace, Zoom, Submittable and Slack.

Experience and skills:

• Experience in a sales or business development role (essential), with experience of membership or subscription sales highly desirable
• Experience working in the education sector (highly desirable)
• Experience of developing, delivering and evaluating sales initiatives and campaigns (essential)
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills (essential)
• Experience of Salesforce or other CRM systems (essential)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills (desirable)

Working Hours: 5 days a week, 9am-5pm (some flexibility required to attend breakfast and after school clubs) 

Salary: £31,138 FTE

Background to School Food Matters

School Food Matters (SFM) exists to teach children about food and to improve children’s access to healthy, sustainable food during their time at school. We provide fully funded food education programmes to schools. Our experience delivering these programmes informs and strengthens our campaigns, bringing the voices of children, parents and teachers to government policy.

Healthy Zones programme

Healthy Zones supports primary, secondary and special schools to create a food environment that puts young people's health centre stage. We are working with schools to develop food policies and to improve the food served in their breakfast and after school clubs. The programme uses a whole school approach through hands-on engagement with students, staff, kitchen teams, governors and parents.

Job Purpose

· To promote, develop and deliver the Healthy Zones programme across schools in Southwark and Lambeth

· Support with the expansion of the Healthy Zones programme across other regions in England

Key Tasks include:

•  Recruit schools to take part in Healthy Zones
• Complete food audits in schools looking across the whole school day (training provided)
• Develop and deliver healthy after school club and breakfast club modules (convene working groups in schools, run simple food preparation engagement sessions (training provided), empower student voice, build relationships with the after-school club staff)
• Develop food policy improvements in schools in our six key areas by building relationships with staff, and engaging students, parents and governors
• Build relationships and work closely / maintain relationships with teachers, teaching assistants, cooks and senior leaders in primary and secondary schools in Lambeth and Southwark to improve the food they offer their students
• Build and support relationships with contacts in partner organisations/LAs, and deliver training where necessary
• Collecting data and maintaining accurate records relating to the programme in Airtable
• Work closely with our Evaluation Manager to complete all monitoring and evaluation
• Gather content for our website and social media platforms
• Keep Programme Manager fully updated on progress

• Keeping up to date with safeguarding requirements and reporting procedures

• Contribute to the smooth-running of SFM at this time of growth
• Maintaining the ethos of the charity and positively promoting our work at all times

Samaritans is on a mission to make a profound impact on suicide prevention, and they need your expertise to drive their philanthropy programme to new heights. With a small yet promising portfolio of supporters and donors, they are poised for growth, fuelled by a national rise in wealth and philanthropy. Annual income is around £500K with donations typically at 5 figure values.

The ambition is to grow the programme sustainably in the long term but also ensure the target is met in 2024-25. This year will be about proactive engagement with a wide range of potential supporters, developing programme infrastructure and securing mid-value donations to build the pipeline from the ground up. In year two they hope to drive up gift volume and value.

The Senior Philanthropy Manager will line manage the Philanthropy Officer, supporting their development and fostering an overall culture of collaboration and high performance. The role will also personally cultivate and steward relationships with new and existing major donors, and work collaboratively on a programme of stewardship and cultivation events.

There is a huge amount of potential for this income stream, and with the right Senior Philanthropy Manager, the portfolio could really fly.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, develop and lead the Philanthropy Officer
• Manage a portfolio of existing donors, deepening their relationship with the charity and upscaling gifts
• Develop a healthy pipeline of new donors, managing prospects with a view to increasing gifts
• Lead the strategic planning for the major donor programme
• Develop an events programme for cultivation and stewardship of donors

Essential criteria

• Substantial experience of, and a strong track record in, major gift fundraising
• Experience of personally soliciting 5-6 figure gifts from major donors
• Experience of successfully managing end-to-end major donor relationships
• Good leadership skills with experience, or transferable experience, of line management

About this role…

Thames Reach’s Outreach teams operate across London and helps those who are rough sleeping to find routes away from the street. The teams respond to referrals and work flexibly to reach London’s most vulnerable. Individuals are assessed to identify their support needs and support plans are created, including work to obtain identification, access health services and refer to other specialist agencies, including those with immigration issues.

We are looking for an  Assistant Support Workers  to join the Street Outreach Rough Sleepers Team

Thames Reach welcomes applications from people with transferable skills.

You will:

• Complete outreach shifts, providing a rapid response to referrals for people who are rough sleeping in the borough 
• Work alongside senior colleagues to identify the fastest and most appropriate route away from the streets for the people that we are working with 
• Provide direct support to people who are found rough sleeping to enable them to move away from the streets and into accommodation 
• Maintain and support relationships with partner agencies 
• Accurately record all work completed within given timeframes 

To succeed as the Assistant Support Worker, you will have:
