About Veganuary

Veganuary is a non-profit organisation that encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January and beyond. Veganuary’s popular culture appeal, alongside our positive and accessible approach to veganism, is making a measurable difference for animals, sparing millions of lives since our launch in 2014.

Veganuary inspired and supported more than half a million people to try vegan during our 2021 campaign – with participants from over 200 countries and territories. We have worked with businesses to drive up vegan food provision in shops and restaurants, and have made veganism more visible and accessible through our work with national and international media. With Veganuary now a household name in Britain, we took all we have learned and expanded to the USA and around the globe. We now run active campaigns in Germany, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, India, the US and the UK, while partnering with many other organisations around the globe.

This is an incredibly exciting time to join a fast-growing, cutting-edge organisation with global reach, a talented intercultural team, and a high-impact mindset and vision.

Role Description

As the Chief of Staff you will wear many hats: you will work closely with the Chief Executive, act as their strategic thought partner, organise their calendar and key events, oversee the general project management of the organisation, facilitate the internal flow of information, and be the main liaison between the CEO and our official partner organisations with the main aim to improve organisational effectiveness.

We are looking for a skilled strategic thinker and hands-on go-getter with a track record of delivering results at a growing, international organisation or start-up, excellent project management skills and sound knowledge of organisational development.

You will share Veganuary’s vision and values (please see below) and have a strong working knowledge of the operating environment of an organisation within the animal protection / effective altruism movement and the plant-based food sector.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Enhance the effectiveness of the CEO by organising their calendar, main events and engagements, chairing meetings and preparing agendas, acting as their strategic thought partner and overall maximizing the efficiency of the senior management of the organisation.
  • Support the implementation of the existing strategy throughout the organisation and the creation of a 3-year strategic plan in line with Veganuary’s theory of change.
  • Oversee the project management throughout all Veganuary departments, through the project management software Asana, and ensure internal management structures and teams function effectively so that we keep track and monitor progress of all the varying projects on an international level.
  • Facilitate the internal and external flow of information, oversee and effectively manage our international partnership program and act as the main liaison between the CEO and our official partner organisations all over the world.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Person Specification:

  • Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in a similar role with demonstrable management and strategic experience at a senior level.
  • Extensive project management skills and a good knowledge of agile delivery methodologies, ideally experience with using the project management tool Asana.
  • Great attention to detail, high levels of organisation, as well as being both an analytical and strategic thinker.
  • Good working knowledge of the animal protection / effective altruism movement and the plant-based food sector.
  • High emotional, organisational, and political intelligence as well as outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, coupled with a degree of flexibility.
  • High levels of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • You share and will support Veganuary’s vision and values (see below).

Our Vision:

Our vision is simple; we want a vegan world. A world without animal farms and slaughterhouses. A world where food production does not decimate forests, pollute rivers and oceans, exacerbate climate change, and drive wild animal populations to extinction.

Our Values:

Impact: we are committed to a vegan world; we will utilise research to evaluate how the highest number of lives can be spared and direct resources to that end.

Empowerment: we will optimise our outreach to support and encourage people on their vegan journey in a non-judgemental, positive, constructive, and easily accessible way.

Collaboration: by partnering with other mission-driven organisations and working closely with corporates, we will make a bigger difference.

Diversity and inclusion: we know that it takes people with different ideas, strengths, interests and backgrounds to achieve our vision; we appreciate the value of this and how it brings us closer to achieving our mission.

Respect and integrity: in all internal and external relationships, we will strive for genuine, honest, and transparent communication.

Resilience: we will continue to create a professional and sustainable (human, social, economic and environmental) organisation.

Veganuary is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to creating an inclusive work culture that reflects and celebrates our diverse world. We therefore welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons, regardless of their ethnicity, sex, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marriage and civil partnership status, or age.

We recognise our duty as an employer to foster an environment that embraces diversity and are constantly reviewing our practices to become even more inclusive as an organisation. We also recognise that certain groups in our industry are under-represented – we welcome applications from all who meet the role’s requirements and are making efforts to attract a diverse pool of candidates to combat the lack of representation.

Application Process:

All applications for this role must be submitted via the CharityJob website by 22 November 2021 at 11:00 UK time. Please apply immediately as we are looking to fill this role urgently, therefore, early applications are encouraged. We will review applications and hold interviews on a rolling basis for this reason. Please submit your application including your CV and a cover letter of no more than 1,000 words that answers the following questions:

  • How did you hear about this role?
  • Why do you want to work for Veganuary?
  • What will you bring to our charity?
  • When can you start?
  • What is your salary expectation?

As an inclusive employer, reasonable adjustments can be made to allow any who require additional support to apply for this role. Please get in touch with us if you require such support.

Thank you for your interest in Veganuary!
