About the role

We are seeking a skilled Programme Officer to support the end-to-end delivery of our sector-leading mentoring programme, ensuring participants join smoothly and are supported throughout. You will also support partners and donors to contribute to the delivery and expansion of the programme. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with strong customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.

We are looking to recruit a Director of Programmes, Partnerships and Advocacy to lead a team of high-performing programme and partnerships managers who guide our relationships with a portfolio of 45 local partners, supporting them in their social witness through a £2.4m programme of grants, and capacity support.

The Director will also lead the development of our advocacy work, collaborating closely with the CEO and Director of Fundraising to develop our policies, messaging and strategy to increase our reach through effective lobbying and campaigning consistent with our theory of change, and strategic vision and mission. This cross-cutting work will include working with our programme team, our communications team, and church engagement team as part of a shared approach to advocacy, campaigning, and public engagement.

Advocacy is a growing part of our work, inspired and guided by the voices of our partners – primarily speaking and acting in relation to:

• the presence and role of Christians in the Middle East
• issues of peace, justice and equal rights in Israel and Palestine
• refugees and internally displaced people across the Middle East

Informed by Christian voices from the Middle East, we engage with Bishops and church leaders, politicians, and with our engagement team seek to educate and mobilise the UK public. Resources will be available for the Director to recruit a dedicated advocacy team member to complement their skills and support them and the team to achieve Embrace’s advocacy aspirations.

We are looking for someone who can bring to Embrace a wealth of international development partnership and grant making experience, alongside their passion and skills to drive and develop Embrace’s public and private advocacy. Like everyone else at Embrace you will be fired up by our mission, and in tune with our values.

Naturally, you will be well versed in complex policy issues within sensitive settings, familiar with acting as a media spokesperson, and dedicated to engaging with communities experiencing injustice and marginalisation.

About The Access Project

We support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university. Our volunteers are trained and supported to be effective tutors who work with our students for an hour a week to raise their grades. In addition, a dedicated school-based staff member mentors the students so they have the knowledge and support to make strong university applications. Our results show this approach works.

About the role

This role is available at an important time for The Access Project as we expand our mission, seek to pilot a new programme model, and move into new school contexts. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the skills for programme improvement, a strong interest in research, and a deep passion for our mission to support students to place and succeed at selective universities.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is comfortable working across teams to make change. You’ll be the lead and expert on The Access Project’s in-school university readiness work with responsibility for designing and quality assuring the provision, supporting the learning and development for our school-based staff to effectively deliver the programme content. This position is integral to ensuring The Access Project is delivering a high-quality programme that supports the needs of our students and drives the outcomes of the programme across all regions and schools. The postholder will also be responsible for amplifying The Access Project’s voice in the sector and responding to policy updates; with a focus on bringing their knowledge of the Higher Education sector and the experiences of our students to decisions about the direction of our own programme. They will also support further development of our programme-level Diversity and Inclusion work, to ensure that the programme is tailored where feasible to the needs of all students.

Duties and responsibilities

1) Design & Development

• Act as a senior collaborator to the annual programme design process. Work with the Head of Process Improvement & Programme Quality to incorporate University Access Officer, Programme Leadership, school, and student feedback on how best to drive our short term and long-term outcomes across our programmes.
• Project manage the implementation of changes driven out of programme design. This includes the creation of or changes to delivery resources and training materials, as well as to our university readiness framework and the Salesforce system that supports delivery.
• Work with Programme Managers to understand their delivery challenges, develop solutions and answer questions around university admissions, widening access and The Access Project’s own University Readiness Programme.
• Act as a senior contributor to the development of The Access Project’s programmatic Diversity and Inclusion work, working closely with the University Access Officer D&I Lead. This includes strong engagement with the D&I working group and designing and implementing systems and support to better serve our students with inclusion needs.
   

2) Research and Policy

• remain critically engaged with the widening participation/social mobility sector, and able to synthesise key changes/challenges and ensure that they are applicable/actionable by the organisation.
• Ensure that any relevant widening participation sector developments and trends are fed into The Access Project’s way of working. For example, this might be changes to resources for the programme or working with colleagues to communicate with students (e.g. on plans for A Level Results Day).
• To be an ambassador of The Access Project’s work and impact externally in the widening participation sector, including speaking at conferences, writing articles on our work, and engaging in external relations.
• Holding responsibility for The Access Project’s policy and research workstream, including contributing to the strategic direction of this work and undertaking research to drive the delivery of this workstream to promote The Access Project’s voice in the widening participation sector.
• Liaising closely with the Communications team to ensure that The Access Project’s responses to sector information and updates are timely and relevant to our Mission.
• Provide nuanced insight about the widening participation/Higher Education sector, with a clear take / coherent view on the landscape and how it’s changing, which would then enable us to make informed choices about our programme.

3) Quality Assurance

• Take responsibility for the operational implementation of the university readiness strand of the quality assurance strategy, to drive the quality of the activities The Access Project delivers to young people in schools.
• Participate in The Access Project’s quality assurance processes, including performing drop-ins on University Access Officers’ programme delivery, and coordinating with other members of the team to perform drop-ins in an efficient and effective manner.
• Embed learning from The Access Project’s quality assurance process into our standard practice. This will include delivering training and development sessions for University Access Officers, updates to resources and guidance for what best practice looks like.
• Contribute research on wider pedagogical best practice into our quality assurance work to ensure the highest quality in our delivery of educational programmes.

4) Student Voice

• Maximising student voice within programme design through the organisation and facilitation of student Delivery Review Meetings.
• Lead the development and administration of The Access Project’s annual student survey, considering the needs of key stakeholders across the organisation.
• Hold and contribute to The Access Project’s overarching Student Voice strategy.
• Continue to drive improvements in The Access Project’s student voice work through research and engagement with sector leaders.

We are seeking for a Programme Officer in the Leaders in Innovation Fellowships (LIF) team.

What are we looking for?

 · NCS Grow Your Ambition Programme Leader

Salary

Position in the Organisation

· Reports To: Programmes Manager

· Working With: Other members of the wider A4Y team, schools, key partners including the management partner, young people and parent/guardians.

 Main Purpose and Scope of the Role

 This programme is part of a consortium bid via the NCS Community Grant scheme and will run from September 2023 until the end of March 2025. NCS is a government-funded initiative that brings together schools, community organisations, businesses and individuals to build a stronger and more cohesive society.

This role will work independently to deliver the Grow Your Ambition programme for young people aged 16/17 years across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. The programme will be delivered in partnership with local schools, during term time, and includes three experiences; Grow Your Life Skills, Grow Your Employability and Grow Your Community. This role is a fixed term contract until the end of March 2025.

Each young person engaged in the programme must participate in all three experiences, totalling 48 hours. Key phases of each experience include preparation, session and curriculum planning, liaising with schools and external partners and actual programme delivery.

 Each programme consists of:

Grow your Life Skills

· A two day, one night, residential experience at our outdoor education centre, Caldecotte Xperience in Milton Keynes.

· Two outdoor adventurous activities on site that focus on teambuilding, communication and problem solving.

· Delivery of Life Skills sessions such as a cooking challenge, money skills, First Aid, mental resilience and more

· Total 24 hours

Grow Your Employability

· Two days based in school, delivered in line with the school day

· Delivery of a variety of Employability sessions such as personal presentation, confident speaking, CV writing and interview skills

Duties and Key Responsibilities

 · Contact and recruit schools from across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes to sign up to the programme

· Organise delivery dates and programme timetables for their students within the contractual requirements of the programme

· Plan each programme and create a timetable of activities for students to follow

· Deliver sessions to groups of students as per each experience

· Stay overnight for the Grow Your Life Skills residential

• Work with local community organisations to host volunteering days

· Work within a set budget to deliver the programme, ensuring each experience is delivered to a high standard

· Enter data onto the NCS/ Action4Youth CRM system

· Deliver a high quality programme to young people across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes as per contractual requirements

· Report to the programme management partner and collect personal details of young people for reporting purposes

· Attend meetings with management partner and other organisations within the consortium

· Prepare and deliver reports for funders and the Action4Youth Senior Management Team (SMT)

· Develop positive relationships with schools across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes to ensure commitment to the programme

Your first-rate understanding of orchestral repertoire and a range of contexts and markets will enable you to devise compelling programmes and concert formats in response to and driven by themes which connect classical music with the world of today and meet box office targets. You will be sensitive to the needs of artists and composers, and experienced in working with conductors in creating programmes, whilst also maintaining in-the-round awareness of the complex jigsaw of sometimes competing priorities and restrictions into which any project has to be delivered.

Discovering new artists and musical voices will be something you are passionate about, as will be the shaping of contexts, formats and musical and cultural narratives to give artists the best chance of connecting with audiences. Your interests will extend to other musical genres, including orchestral music for film, television and games.

You will be curious about learning and education work, and non-main-stage activity, including digital and immersive projects, and will be thinking collaboratively and pro-actively about their relationship to performances on the concert stage.

You will play a key leadership role in the ongoing transformation of the organisation: ensuring the highest artistic standards based on the unique Philharmonia sound, whilst championing and developing an artistic strategy built around innovation.

As a member of the Exec Team, you will report to the Chief Executive. You will work in close partnership with the Concerts Director and team, and also have close working relationships with other members of the Exec Team, President, Vice President and the Philharmonia Orchestra Artistic Committee.

Key responsibilities

Programming & artistic relationships

• Devise and implement the artistic strategy and programme of the Philharmonia Orchestra in close consultation with the Chief Executive, Principal Conductor and Exec Team colleagues

• Act as primary liaison to the Principal Conductor and other titled artists, discussing and agreeing programmes and projects

• Engage guest conductors and soloists for all Philharmonia own-promoted performances and engagements, including fee negotiations

• Identify and lead opportunities for commissioning and co-commissioning of new works, negotiating commission fees and contracts. Liaison with publishers

• Negotiate co-promotion deals with external partners such as Serious or Southbank Centre

• Liaise with conductors and touring partners to develop programmes for foreign touring, while

  considering market and budget limitations

• Initiate and develop non-standard orchestral projects, such as film with live orchestra, cross-artform or cross-genre collaborations, and performances at non-standard venues

• Develop suitable programmes for Philharmonia Residency venues, taking both box office and logistical considerations into account

• Handle artist and conductor cancellations and identifying suitable replacements. Liaising internally with other departments over all cancellations

• Develop repertoire ideas and ensure timely registration on clash-diary, with support from Concerts Manager

• Lead on chamber music programming, including liaison with players over proposals

• Research and identify future featured artists, composers and guest conductors proactively

Internal & external communications

• Represent the artistic programming function to senior staff, promoters, agents, donors, Board members and volunteers

• Collaborate with the Learning and Engagement department to integrate the performance programme with educational projects in the planning stage, including Artist in Residence programme

• Collaborate with the Development Department on programmed-led fundraising activities

• Be in regular contact with Marketing colleagues as artistic plans consolidate and confirm. Advise on narrative and proof-read key documents

• Act as artistic liaison with external partners as required

Budgeting, rehearsal & instrumentation planning

• Work with the Concerts Director and Managers to create project and season activity budgets, accurately forecasting expenditure and advising on box office targets

• Oversee the planning of rehearsals by Concerts Managers, seeking advice from members of the orchestra as necessary

• Agree special instruments, and relevant additional fees

Principal liaison with Southbank Centre

• Lead on the day-to-day relationship with Southbank Centre, both in terms of strategy and date requests as principal point of contact

• Keep SBC colleagues updated on future artistic plans, specifically identifying future projects which may be of interest to Southbank Centre to collaborate on, on a co-promotion or engagement basis

Orchestra liaison

• Lead the Artistic Committee discussions re future plans, and ideas around conductors and soloists • Work with the Concerts Assistants and Data & Insight Manager to issue periodic conductor and soloist survey, using results to inform future programming
• Be in regular contact with key orchestral personnel over suitability of repertoire if rehearsal time is  severely limited

Recordings & digital

• Lead on Philharmonia Records, developing and overseeing the recordings strategy
• Identify, and plan potential own-label recording projects
• Listen to recordings to assess suitability for release, and discussing in-house recordings with Artistic Committee
• Work with Immersive Producer on programmatic aspects of digital projects • Identify projects which could be digital first from the outset

Other

• Work with the CEO and Exec team colleagues on developing future business plan and strategies built around the Orchestra’s new mission, vision and values

• As a member of the Exec team represent the Orchestra in key operational and strategic relationships, as required

• Attend performances at Southbank Centre and at venues out of London and overseas, as required, in order to monitor artistic performance and quality

Required skills & experience

• Excellent track record of working in artistic planning or artist management (min 7-10 years)

• First-class knowledge of orchestral repertoire and artists, as well as the work of the Philharmonia

BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Institutional Relations team is responsible for donor engagement and influencing, institutional funding, and partnerships in the UK. It comprises the Head of Institutional Relations, a Commercial Contracts Manager and three Programme Funding Officers.

As part of HI’s 2016-2025 strategy, we have ambitious targets for growth in institutional funding from UK donors, and more broadly, a focus on building strategic relationships with key UK donors and partners. Given the changing external funding environment and evolving context in the UK, we are looking for an individual who is willing to be flexible and adapt to the context in order to meet the organisation’s needs and have the biggest impact for people with disabilities.

The main purpose of this post is:

· Improving our track record for UK and other funding by increasing internal understanding of donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, supporting high quality submissions, grant management and donor compliance

Strengthening relationships with, and generating and managing funding from UK and other institutional donors and partners

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Promoting our work and building relationships with institutional donors

Supporting the work of the Head of Institutional Relations, you will have sound knowledge of the donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, and contribute proactively to influencing their funding strategies and priorities. Duties include:

· Maintain a good understanding of HI’s programmes, strategy and approach and communicate this externally.

· Identify and build relationships with a portfolio of large public and private institutional donors and their key suppliers (e.g. INGOs and for-profit development companies), mobilising colleagues from UK and across the global organisation as required.

· Work with country programmes to develop country-level action plans to engage with local representatives of UK donors and partners, in order to strengthen in-country relationships, influence donors’ country-level plans and access in-country funding opportunities. This will also involve supporting the development of multi-year operational plans and advise on the funding possibilities offered by UK institutional donors.

· Anticipate future trends and the expectations of the donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, influence their policies and strategies, and negotiate and consult with them on institutional funding matters, in liaison with the appropriate colleagues from the UK team and federal network.

· In coordination with the Head of Institutional Relations and the Chief Executive, monitor and where needed, contribute to collective work and advocacy initiatives in collaboration with partners and INGO networks (such as the Start Network and targeted Bond groups) with the aim of raising HI’s profile and influencing UK donors in line with our influencing priorities.

Generate and manage institutional funding from UK donors

You will follow and champion HI’s internal institutional funding procedures to identify and analyse funding opportunities from UK sources, contribute to project submissions, and carry out grant management duties. You will:

· Monitor, identify, analyse and communicate all relevant funding opportunities from donors in your portfolio (including development and humanitarian grant opportunities and commercial contracts). This will involve facilitating internal go/no go decision-making for new opportunities and advising, and supporting programme colleagues on positioning and consortium-building when relevant.

· Lead the review and analysis of the requirements in new funding agreements and contracts, advise internal stakeholders on compliance and ensure appropriate contract negotiation and due diligence processes are followed.

· Implement internal procedures for contract/grant management and support the submission of reporting and payment requests according to donor requirements.

Improve our track record for UK institutional funding

You will be responsible for increasing internal understanding of UK donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, supporting high quality strategic submissions and donor compliance. You will:

· Create internal communications, train and brief finance, programme and technical staff (including country programmes) on the donors in your portfolio, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to comply with donor rules, understand donor priorities and focus areas, and maximise the potential for funding.

· Support proposal development, advising on donor requirements, expectations and preferences.

· Build strong relationships and internal links with technical and programme teams and contribute to internal working groups on issues related to institutional funding.

Other duties

· Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with HI UK colleagues and the Federal Institutional Funding, and Operations teams.

· Actively contribute to the HI UK operational plan and team work plans, and internal staff meetings.

· Ensure high quality, accurate internal reporting and information management for your portfolio.

· Keep abreast of developments within the sector by liaising with counterparts in other NGOs, and relevant networks.
