About Chapter One
Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in thirteen areas/regions of the UK and will support over 4,000 children in 2026-27.
Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (Y1-3) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.
From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading. About the Role
Chapter One is seeking a Bradford Programme Manager who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to disadvantaged communities is maximised throughout the academic year.
The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base and who is able to travel frequently in and around West Yorkshire. The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work some additional hours during busy autumn weeks, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.
There are plans for future expansion in Bradford so the role may grow, in time.
Key Responsibilities:

Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers.

Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms.

Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up.

Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom.
-
Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and effectively communicate this to others as needed.

Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles.

Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed.

Proactively monitor classroom adherence/fidelity to the Chapter One model, including systematic review of data reports and volunteer feedback, taking proactive action to resolve problems that arise.

Analyse and manipulate data (largely in Google sheets) to produce reports and identify trends.

Create regular data summaries for all participating classrooms.

Lead annual review meetings for senior leadership at participating schools.

Support programme monitoring, evaluation and research as required.

Coordinate in person and virtual school ‘visits’ of volunteer teams to classrooms where necessary. This may include opportunities for Chapter One children to visit the office of the volunteers.

Liaison with corporate partners as required.

Weekly communication and status updates with Senior Programme Manager(s) and wider team.

As a new school year approaches, secure commitments from returning schools and help find and target new schools to join Chapter One’s programme.

SUMMARY
Position Title: Head of Programmes (CMDP) Mat-Cover
Level: Level 6
Salary: £40, 000 - 46, 000 (FTE yearly)
Reports to: Director of Programmes and Partnerships
Location: The Liberation centre Brixton, London (New office in Brixton)/ Remote working within the UK with at least 2 days’ work from our office (Pro rata for part time)
Contract: Fulltime (40hrs/weekly), fixed-term maternity cover contract for 1 year with potential for Part time (e.g., 32hrs/weekly) extension subject to funding.
Hours: TAA has flexible working hours, with some expected evenings (e.g. one 9pm finish once every two weeks) and weekends due to the nature of the role. All extra hours are reimbursed as Time off in Lieu (TOIL).

The Advocacy Academy is an activist youth movement. We serve as the political home for grassroots youth organising and the catalyst for collective action. The lives of the young people we work alongside have been directly shaped by living in an unjust world, and we exist to turn their anger into action.
Young people are often the catalysts for major social change, from the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee at the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, to the Soweto Uprising mobilising young people to resist the apartheid regime's education policies, to the Sunrise Movement redrawing the electoral map across America, and more recently encampments and protests across the world protesting the genocide in Palestine. How successfully they achieve real and lasting change depends on whether they are organised and whether they have the right strategy and tactics to be effective.
We want youth organising to be enshrined in the UK for generations to come, and for young people to have tangible political power to influence national policy. That’s why we have launched two national coalitions, one around climate, and the other around gender. Each will train organisations across the country to become youth organisers, and work together to bring 100 young people together to identify the strategy and tactics needed to achieve change. These young leaders will organise others and work collectively to build a campaign which shakes the status quo.
We are looking for a Head of Programmes who believes in this vision and is capable of building the leadership of young people that enables them to turn the resources they have into the power they need to make the change they want. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1.You will be responsible for the Changemaker Development Programme (CMDP) including but limited to:
- Working with the Associate Director of Programmes and Associate Director of Partnerships to coordinate programmes planning and delivery timelines for CMDP.
- Managing cross programmatic projects to standardise processes and practices in the Programmes Department
- Designing and developing the recruitment process for Alumni to join the CMDP and create a targeted recruitment strategy to grow the Alumni Changemaker pool
- Managing the monitoring and evaluation of the programme including quantitative and qualitative data, and facilitate the process of ongoing learning being integrated into the programme
- Working with Programmes Leadership Team to coordinate and deliver a holistic safeguarding, wellbeing and pastoral care strategy across TAA’s work with young people
- Responsible for holding the CMDP budget and ensuring that it is managed and spent in accordance with TAA expenses procedure e.g. signing off expenses up to £1,000 expenditure and escalating to Director of Programmes and Partnerships for amounts exceeding this.
2.You will be accountable for the learning design and delivery to include but not limited:
- Leading the design of the CMDP curriculum to agreed TAA standards engaging key stakeholders, e.g. alumni, programmes team, external partners
- Supporting Alumni Changemakers to design, deliver and facilitate social justice workshops in line with established pedagogical approaches at TAA.
- Leading the development of learning journeys for Alumni Changemakers.
- Working during school holidays for camps, and in the evenings to accommodate school hours, which may include regular evening work and unsocial hours during programme delivery.
3.You will be the port of call for the Changemakers and Community Organisers who will help run the programme, and a regular and trusted individual whom the young people know and can connect with. To include but not limited to:
- You will support the Changemakers in co-creating this space with young people in the community and helping them identify ways to bring participants along into the membership.
- You will be managing the Changemakers who are delivering the programme - and updating both the Community Director and Director of Programmes and Partnerships on their progress and development.
- You will hold the budget for the programme - keeping track of expenses and thinking through ways to keep costs down.
- You will ensure that you provide accurate and timely financial information to the budget lead for your work and to the Finance, HR & Operations team
- You will be responsible for holding relationships with Alumni Changemakers and holding the relational culture of the CMDP to ensure we have a brilliant atmosphere for learning, nurturing and growth for Alumni Changemakers, including but not limited to:
- Taking responsibility for the pastoral care of Alumni Changemakers on placement including building the pastoral care approach with the Programmes Leadership Team.
- Taking responsibility for building and nurturing key relationships with fellow social justice activists, organisers and educators in the sector who can support, challenge and inspire our Alumni Changemakers.
- Representing TAA at any applicable events, in the press and in activist circles
- Building and nurturing relationships with alumni/members.
4.You will be accountable for the learning design and development of the Leadership Development Framework. To include but not limited to:
- Designing and developing a cohesive, high-quality curriculum aligned to TAA’s strategic goals and organisational values
- Establishing and embedding a clear pedagogical approach that underpins all delivery and supports effective facilitation
- Creating structured learning journeys that support the progression and development of young people as leaders
- Developing and maintaining facilitator guides, resources and tools to ensure consistency and quality across delivery
- Working with staff and members to ensure curriculum and pedagogy are effectively understood and implemented
- Reviewing delivery, gathering feedback and insights from members, and iterating on the curriculum and approach to continuously improve quality and impact
5.You will ensure that your programmatic activities are managed as well-oiled machines through pulling in the right people at the right time and ensuring that key milestones are met:
- Responsible for ensuring effective departmental administration including delegating key administrative tasks to relevant staff
- You will be working with the Director of Programme and Partnerships, Director of Community, the Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team and others to think about the safety, safeguarding, and wellbeing needs of the young people participating in the programme and beyond.
- You will ensure safeguarding and Health and Safety standards are met across the programmes team and other critical policies and practices within the organisation, working proactively with relevant leads to understand requirements and operationalise effectively
- You will contribute towards risk management standards and ensure Health and Safety standards are met across programmatic and community team
- You will be responsible for managing and overseeing a suite of behind-the-scenes systems, databases and resources which comply with UKGDPR, safeguarding and other legal requirements.
- You will be responsible for overseeing the logistics of the CMDP including the organisation and coordination of venues, food, travel, staff and risk assessments, individual care plans etc.
- Work closely with the development team to align work with fundraising targets and support them in identifying and securing appropriate fundraising opportunities
- You will be committed to learning, monitoring outcomes, and holding us accountable to ourselves, our communities, funders, allies and donors. This includes shaping thoughtful MEAL practices and developing systems that go beyond compliance, enabling genuine learning and innovation while respecting the integrity and privacy of the young people in the programme.

Program Manager
Prospectus is supporting an independent foundation seeking a Program Manager to support Senior Program Directors and the organisations governments partners in their efforts to deliver transformational, cross sectoral initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.
Program Managers review and develop program-related materials that drive strategic priorities; monitor program achievement progress; manage local consultants and technical assistance providers; provide financial and workplan oversight of grants; track and document results across programs.
The foundation does not implement its own ‘projects’: they work directly with inspiring government leaders to deliver on their goals for their people, and the Program Manager will be expected to interface in a respectful, savvy, and non-prescriptive manner with government colleagues, while simultaneously providing the honest feedback of a true partner.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in managing complex and large-scale program implementation, ideally in sub-Saharan African countries.
- Good understanding of how governmental departments work, ideally with direct experience working with governments particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Substantial, relevant expertise in health, nutrition, job creation, urban development or education, ideally in sub-Saharan Africa. This will include familiarity with evidence, key actors, and proven interventions in a broad range of human development areas.

CRG is a trusted, community-led charity working at the heart of Chopwell to improve wellbeing, opportunity and quality of life.
Founded in 2017 by local residents, CRG has grown into a locally valued and widely respected organisation delivering community-led regeneration that works. We have a strong track record of partnership, collaborating with organisations across health, education and employment sectors.
In 2022 we opened The Bank, a multi-award winning community hub. It hosts a popular café, an affordable community market, a training kitchen, rental offices and business support, and a wide programme of learning, wellbeing, employability and social activities.
In 2024 we opened our second building The Regeneration Shop - a volunteer-led repair and reuse space providing opportunities for residents to develop practical skills, reduce waste and build confidence. We are currently in the process of acquiring a new and bigger building for our Shop, to expand our repair activity and its associated social and commercial impact.
We have a team of 11 staff and every year work with over 200 volunteers.

The Senior Programmes Manager will work closely with our Senior Finance & Commercial Manager to provide leadership for Chopwell Regeneration Group (CRG), reporting to the Board of Trustees. They will lead on strategy, planning and delivery for all programmes, working with board, staff and volunteers, and external partners to ensure activities are achievable, properly resourced, financially sustainable, impactful and effectively evaluated.
Key areas of responsibility:
● Strategic planning and delivery of social, cultural, education and training programmes that meet CRG’s objectives, including improved mental health and wellbeing, skills development and employability for Chopwell residents.
● Leading the growth of our public programmes that deliver wide-ranging educational and wellbeing benefits for the people of Chopwell, from social prescribing activity to business support. This includes planning annual programme aims and outcomes, developing partnerships, and ensuring delivery is financially sustainable and properly resourced.
● Leadership and management of staff including line management responsibility.
● Managing the volunteer programme in line with best practice and working with the staff team to recruit, communicate with and support volunteers.
● Developing and managing successful and innovative partnerships across a range of sectors and growing partnerships locally, regionally and nationally.
● Ensuring there is sufficient staff capacity to deliver programmes effectively, and advocating for and working with the Board to identify funding and support for additional resources.
● Identifying new funding opportunities and working with CRG Board to secure grant funding for programmes in line with strategic objectives.

About Chapter One
Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in thirteen areas/regions of the UK and will support over 4,000 children in 2026-27.
Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (P2-4) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.
From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading. About the Role
Chapter One is seeking a Scotland Programme Manager who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to disadvantaged communities is maximised throughout the academic year.
The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base and who is able to travel frequently in and around Edinburgh and Glasgow. The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work some additional hours during busy autumn weeks, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.
Key Responsibilities:

Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers.

Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms. This will include technical configuration/troubleshooting of mobile internet hotspots with IT team support.

Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up.
-
Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom.

Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and effectively communicate this to others as needed.

Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles.

Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed.

Proactively monitor classroom adherence/fidelity to the Chapter One model, including systematic review of data reports and volunteer feedback, taking proactive action to resolve problems that arise.

Analyse and manipulate data (largely in Google sheets) to produce reports and identify trends.

Create regular data summaries for all participating classrooms.

Lead annual review meetings for senior leadership at participating schools.

Support programme monitoring, evaluation and research as required.

Coordinate in person and virtual school ‘visits’ of volunteer teams to classrooms where necessary. This may include opportunities for Chapter One children to visit the office of the volunteers.

Liaison with corporate partners as required.

Weekly communication and status updates with Senior Programme Manager(s) and wider team.

As a new school year approaches, secure commitments from returning schools and help find and target new schools to join Chapter One’s programme.
We are looking for applicants with the following essential qualities:

Highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

Proven track record of working at a senior level in education, project management or a related field.
