CGD Europe (CGDE), an independent think tank in London, United Kingdom, seeks a highly motivated, dynamic, experienced Finance Manager to join the finance team. You will have strong financial management skills with experience in supporting grant-funded activity; be a qualified or part-qualified accountant with a strong understanding of charity accounting practices (i.e. SORP); and have excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, proactive, detail-oriented individual to enhance the finance function and make an impactful contribution to CGD Europe’s operations and mission in international development.
You will report to the Chief Finance, Planning, and Operations Officer (CFO) and work closely with CGD Europe’s Programme Teams and outsourced accounting team, with support from the HR and Finance Coordinator.
Responsibilities include:
Finance Function
- Work with the CFO, other senior management, and programme staff to develop annual organisational budget of over £7 million
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure efficient and effective financial management, ensuring that policies and processes are well-understood by the wider organisation
- Design, implement and manage processes to develop financial forecasts, monitor budgets and programme funds, and reconcile accounts
- Produce financial reports (inc. month-end, year-end, management accounts, budget versus actual, etc) for senior management and Board of Trustees
- Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks.
- Review and process expense claims and invoices, working with the HR and Finance Coordinator and CGD Europe’s outsourced accounting team to ensure all employees and suppliers are paid promptly and accurately, that customers are invoiced, debts chased on a timely basis
- Oversee the full functionality of applications and systems related to all financial processes, including Sage Intacct and SAP Concur
- Submission of annual P11Ds and other tax related returns to HMRC
Annual / Project Audits & Governance
- Coordinate project audits and the statutory audit process liaising with external auditors to ensure preparation, timely completion and submission of project and statutory accounts
- Assist CFO with audit(s)
- Assist the preparation of Board and Audit Committee papers
Finance Business Partnering
- Support the Programme and Institutional Advancement Teams with financial proposals, financial management and financial reporting relating to donor funds
- Establish and monitor systems and procedures to manage all contract and grant requirements
- Communicate matters relating to financial planning and operations, exchange ideas and best practice, develop excellent relationships with Programme Teams
- Ensure financial management information is presented in an accessible way and used as appropriate to monitor performance and to influence change alongside other data sources
- Work closely with Programme Teams to ensure proper allocation and utilisation of grant funds
- Develop financial reports on Sage Intacct to support Programme Teams in the financial management of their grants

Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CIMA) in full or part

Skills & Experience
- Experience of working in the charitable sector in the UK

The ideal candidate
We are looking for a skilled trusts and foundations fundraiser, with expertise of securing 6-figure, multi-year funding from grant funders, charitable foundations, lottery or statutory sources. They should have first class research and prospecting skills that are combined with awareness of innovations and upcoming trends in the area of income generation. Someone who can thrive on collaborative working and combine this strategic thinking, plus being able to work with a diverse range of staff and volunteers to ensure relevant information is captured in proposal creation as well as ensuring outputs are correctly monitored for reporting to donors would be a perfect fit.

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern
This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.

The Database Assistant will maintain Symplectic Grant Tracker, a key organisational database, ensuring all data is accurate and meaningful. This database holds the application portal for organisations and is how the Grants & Learning Team manage and support funded partners with their grants. We are a not-for-profit animal welfare organisation which campaigns for the humane treatment of decapod crustaceans such as lobsters, crabs, prawns, and langoustines, based on the scientific evidence of their sentience. Our campaign work was responsible for the ground-breaking inclusion of decapod crustaceans in the recent Animal Sentience Act of 2022, a move which has opened more opportunities to influence change.

Purpose
Reporting to the CEO, the Fundraising Support Manager will support the Fundraising Manager in the fundraising efforts of Crustacean Compassion. This will be role building on two specific areas of work already undertaken, specifically reviewing, and supporting major donors’ proposals, and developing the supporter journey and engagement process.
The applicant will need to have an active knowledge and warm contacts with potential funders, be able to prepare and create proposals immediately as well as use CRM or external screening sources to identify and communicate with potential major donors. They will have expertise across a variety of revenue streams and will have the support of our Campaigns team to develop engaging funding bids designed to create a supporter journey and long-term engagement.
This role will require a substantial amount of proactive independent working, along with close teamwork.

General Duties
- Implement the execution of the fundraising strategy to lead income streams, delivering growth in restricted and unrestricted income whilst engaging supporter journeys to active givers.

- Monitor and support the ongoing recruitment, engagement, and development of high-profile supporter relationships.
- Develop and manage a rolling stewardship and engagement programme, including the use of online and in-person events where budget allows.

Individual Giving and Community Fundraising
- Review and develop the current supporter journey to lead a regular giving strategy, maximising unrestricted income and supporting donor uplift.

Who: We are looking for an experienced, self-starting Finance Manager for the Central Foundation Schools of London, a charity supporting two state schools in London, with investments and endowments in the region of £40m.
Responsibilities: The Finance Manager will be responsible through the CEO to the Board, for day-to-day management of the charity’s accounts and all financial operations. They will manage the financial record keeping, payroll, pensions, banking and oversee the tracking of Foundation’s investments and income. The postholder will provide accurate financial management information, including quarterly cashflow forecasting and management accounts and co-ordinating the annual budget setting process. They will be responsible for preparing the annual accounts to the required standards and overseeing the annual audit process. Our Work: For over 150 years, the Central Foundation Schools of London has supported two schools in inner London. Our People: We are a small team with three part time staff managing the day to day work of the Foundation. A Board of 18 trustees/directors volunteer their time and skills and collaborate closely with the small staff team. In 2022 the Board started a process of transformation and modernisation of the charity’s operations and processes. In 2023, alongside refreshing our governance, supporting two major building programmes and updating our financial operations, we established our first strategy addressing how we can best support the Schools over the next decade and more.
The Role: To support the exciting opportunities presented by the new strategy, Central Foundation Schools for London are recruiting a permanent Finance Manager to provide professional management of the charity’s accounts, ensuring the charity’s operational effectiveness and efficiency, accurate financial management information and advice, preparation of the annual budget, management of our investment portfolio as well as compliance with statutory for the production of the Annual Statutory Accounts in compliance with latest SORP and legislation.
Experience: We are looking for a fully qualified accountant with good post-qualification experience with the ability to work independently and lead the charity’s financial operations.

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
The LSHTM is searching for a CEO to help in the management of the ‘Resilience Against Future Threats’ (RAFT) Research Programme Consortium (RPC). RAFT is funded by FCDO, and its mission is research that will be of practical benefit to national programmes for the control of vector-borne diseases especially malaria. The Consortium partners are the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the Centre for Research into Infectious Disease Cameroon, the Institut Pierre Richet in Côte d'Ivoire, the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) in Tanzania, the Faculty of Tropical Medicine of Mahidol University in Thailand, and the Malaria Consortium. One strand of our work concerns the arms race against insecticide resistance in African malaria vector mosquitoes, and in particular the process of choosing the most cost-effective insecticidal interventions in the face of complex geographic variation in resistance and a limited amount of epidemiological trial evidence. The other strand is addressing the more strategic and longer-term threats facing vector control, including the rise of Aedes-borne viruses in Africa, and the effects of anthropogenic changes in the environments in which we live.
We are looking for a CEO who will join the leadership team based in the LSHTM. This is a senior role with operational responsibility across all of RAFTs activities, including its research, its governance structures and workings as a partnership, its relationship with FCDO and the intended users of the knowledge outputs. You will work closely with RAFT’s two Principal Investigators/Research Directors and provide support to all other Principal Investigators/Directors from partners in the Consortium. The CEO will manage the relationship with the donor (UK Government Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, FCDO) and be the primary point of contact. You will provide strategic Management of RPC governance structures; and actively participate in RPC management meetings with Management Group and running of the Consortium Advisory Group (CAG). You will work closely with the Programme Manager to ensure best practice in budget management, financial probity, forecasting expenditure, and financial reporting to donors, Management Group and CAG.
The CEO will oversee and report on detailed progress against the agreed workplans and logframe, including on risks to programme success and make changes and recommendations as required. You will lead on Lead on active engagement with RAFT’s primary external stakeholders (i.e. the main intended users of its knowledge outputs), including National Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs) in countries with high burden of mosquito-borne disease, World Health Organisation (WHO), UK Government FCDO etc, so as to understand their research and technical priorities and to coordinate RAFT’s role and contribution. Finally, the CEO will also oversee the development and implementation of the RAFT Communications Strategy and together with the Research Uptake Manager, oversee all RPC communications, data management procedures and engagement of users and policymakers with the research outputs, representing the RPC in public debate and other media.
Candidates must have a higher education to degree level, or equivalent, or substantial relevant experience, experience of managing and reporting on programme grants from funders such as FCDO, EU etc, significant proven experience of financial planning and management including creating and monitoring budgets
The post is part-time 3 days per week, 0.6 FTE and fixed-term until 30 April 2026. The post is funded by the UK Government Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and is available immediately.
The salary will be on the Professional Services salary scale, Grade 7 in the range £51,299 - £58,723 (SP 38-43) per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). About the role

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. The role
This newly scoped role reports into the CEO and is critical to our ability to create the income we need to keep up with the ever-increasing demand on our services. Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. As the sole employee of The Leche Trust, the Grants Director will spearhead the Trust's operations and day to day management, providing invaluable support to the Trustees while managing relationships with external stakeholders and funding networks. We're also looking for someone who has a good understanding of either the UK performing arts sector or the UK heritage conservation sector.
