Job Title: School Engagement Manager

Hours/days: Full-time 40 hours per week (will consider part-time & flexible working)
Location: Flexible / hybrid with a minimum of one day per week in the Brixton office. The role will involve travel to various locations in London, and some travel to Yorkshire/South West, so would therefore not suit fully remote working.

Chefs in Schools is a young, ambitious charity that’s rapidly growing. Our mission is to improve kids' health, through improving school food & food education. We focus our efforts in areas of high socio-economic deprivation, where more than a third of children are entitled to free school meals, and diet-related disease is driving further inequality.

We support and train school kitchen teams to serve the best, freshest and tastiest food possible, alongside meaningful food education. We share learning and resources, aiming to inspire and enable others to follow our lead.

About you and the role
The purpose of this role is to foster engagement between our charity and schools and kitchen teams seeking support to improve their school food. This is a significant and important role for our rapidly scaling charity, ensuring effective communication and engagement with schools, academies and stakeholders to maximise our impact.

You will be supported by our Director of Transformations, and work closely with our Senior Programme Managers, and the Director of Partnerships and Impact.

Your role will be critical to the successful delivery of both our core programmes which are delivered across England. This role will be primarily focused in London, but will include supporting the engagement of schools in locations across the UK as we develop new hubs. You will be joining a dynamic and growing charity who are passionate about delivering exceptional training, skill sharing, expertise and know-how to advance the quality of food preparation, food service and food education in schools.

You will have an understanding of the context that we operate in, education and food sectors. You will have strong people skills, and the ability to build relationships and manage effective partnerships with external organisations.

Key responsibilities:
● To work with the Director of Transformations to develop and execute a school engagement plan, in line with our scaling strategy and current funded programmes.
● Work closely with the Director of Transformations, Director of Impact and Partnerships and the Senior Programme Managers to assess and propose suitable programmes of support for schools, multi-academy trusts and caterers interested
in our School Chef Educator Programme and School by School interventions.
● Lead meetings with Senior Leadership of prospective participating schools and academies, supported by our Senior Programme Managers where appropriate.
● Work with our Senior Programme Managers to identify suitable schools and participants for our funded training programmes, ensuring a high uptake of available places on our funded training programmes.
● Maintain accurate data records and ensure our contacts database is up to date with relevant school, participant, partner and engagement information.
● Build relationships with academy trusts and other strategic educational and youth organisations to market our programmes and champion our work around school food.
● Work with the Senior Programme Managers to build upon our current onboarding and customer journey for schools and training participants, developing and improving this for future schools and cohorts.
● Act as a collaborator and key influencer amongst colleagues to develop approaches and engagement resources that will facilitate a stronger rapport with schools.
● Working with the Director of Partnerships and Impact, effectively and efficiently handle new enquiries, manage the sales pipeline, outreach campaigns and support the onboarding process for schools and participants.

Skills & experience:
● You have interest and belief in our mission, to improve child health through improving food and food education in schools
● You are an excellent writer and communicator with strong presentation and facilitation skills
● You have experience of maintaining and building business relationships with a wide range of audiences from individual schools to large academy chains, through to partner delivery organisations and local government departments
● You are confident liaising with decision makers at all levels 
● You have experience of CRM software, and of building a strong sales pipeline and proactively securing business development opportunities
● You have the ability to listen, understand and interpret customer requirements
● You demonstrate self-motivation, flexibility and the ability to adapt to an ever-changing, growing organisation
● You have stakeholder and partnership management experience
● You have experience marketing programmes to schools
● You are a proactive, confident communicator with an excellent understanding of the education sector, and the key developments and approaches that will resonate with schools looking to develop their staff and transform their food offer
● You are personable and display the natural ability and passion to speak to school leaders and build meaningful relationships that help them achieve their goals 
● You are well organised with experience of managing a diverse workload with multiple work streams
● A good understanding of the UK educational system is desirable

We're looking for someone to lead and develop our research team of staff and freelance research associates and be part of our Senior Leadership Team. We work with charities, foundations and public agencies to strengthen UK communities through action research. We champion the role and contribution of the voluntary sector, listen and learn with charities to understand what helps or hinders them and influence changes in practice within foundations and public agencies.

You'll have an interest in our work – helping individuals and organisations in the voluntary sector to achieve change; and a strong understanding and experience of using qualitative research methodology, ideally including experience of action research, facilitation and evaluation design alongside an understanding of quantitative methods. You’ll have experience of  leading, managing and contributing to all stages of the research process (including writing in an accessible and engaging manner for different audiences); be confident in leading a portfolio of varied projects; have experience of line management and working in a senior leadership team; and be comfortable working in a small organisation with wide-ranging responsibilities.

Main responsibilities include:

• Overseeing and shaping the research project portfolio to ensure quality delivery and alignment with IVAR’s strategic priorities.
• Leading, supervising and guiding the research team, including supporting Project Managers to deliver high quality research; monthly research team meetings; and continuous professional development of research staff.
• Being a member of project delivery teams.
• Monitoring project budgets and progress against income targets.
• Ensuring IVAR meets its responsibilities in terms of research ethics and safeguarding and that our research practice is equitable and inclusive.
• Maintaining and developing a network that supports a healthy project pipeline of new work, including relationships with delivery partners who can complement and enhance IVAR’s offer.
• Leading project design and proposals for commissioned work.
• Leading the identification, assessment and response to tender opportunities.
• Being part of the Senior Leadership Team, which includes ensuring an integrated approach to research and communications and the quality of all written outputs; participating in IVAR meetings and events (including quarterly Board meetings); planning and delivering monthly team days; contributing to the development of internal systems/processes; developing organisational culture; developing and promoting IVAR’s public profile and influence.

Harm towards children and young people is a global issue, and can include physical and emotional abuse, neglect and exploitation, sexual abuse and other forms of gender-based violence. We recognise that the impact of experiencing such harm has significant and long-term consequences that can create barriers to an individual reaching their full potential.

This is an exciting opportunity to support a global network of up to 40 partners in strengthening and developing their safeguarding practices and embed our global framework, supporting KTI and our partner organisations to meet institutional contractual requirements.

In this key role, you will lead and implement the safeguarding strategy, working closely with the Director of Delivery and Impact and with the Senior Leadership Team providing advice and updates regarding safeguarding and risk management to our Board, various committees, and teams. You will work closely across functions but particularly within the programmes team, supporting the safer programming of our young people across 20 countries via a network of in-country delivery partners. This year we are launching our Partner Portal which will include safeguarding training and development in addition to the partner training already provided, your knowledge will be crucial as you work closely with our Digital and Design and Impact teams in the development and implementation of this training.

About you

You will have extensive experience of supporting organisations to deliver safe and impactful programmes, having developed the systems process and frameworks to support this. You will be a strong communicator with the ability to adapt your communication style to diverse audiences both in the UK and internationally, with the ability to produce and deliver engaging and culturally relevant training. A team player, you will work well across teams with a proactive and solutions focused attitude. Strong written skills are key, and you will be confident in the production and writing of necessary reports for both senior colleagues, external stakeholders, and programmes teams.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is the home of the Chelsea Pensioners. It has a rich history and provides supported accommodation, residential and nursing care for some 300 retired soldiers. An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Royal Hospital Chelsea where we are seeking an exceptional individual to join the Chelsea Pensioners Veterans’ Outreach  (CPVO ) team in a new role as a Veterans’ Outreach Officer. 

 The CPVO programme is aimed at extending an offer to older service veterans, inviting them to engage with our In Pensioners and enjoy the sense of community and comradeship that is at the heart of the Chelsea Pensioner community. While most of our programme activity is centred on the Royal Hospital Chelsea estate in London, the programme seeks to expand in reach to other UK regions where there is a sizeable veteran population who might benefit from engagement with our team of Chelsea Pensioners, staff and volunteers. There are also plans to develop a digital offer.

 The Veterans’ Outreach Officer will support  the Head of Veterans’ Outreach in developing and managing the programme of activities encouraging engagement and social interaction between Chelsea Pensioners and other service veterans thereby helping to alleviate the social isolation and loneliness felt by many older veterans. Responsibilities will include promoting the programme within veterans' networks and finding innovative ways to connect with veterans; the management of themed events both at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and further afield as we seek to expand nationwide. The role also involves significant data collection and analysis to inform the strategy, evaluate delivery, and identify fundraising opportunities.

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF)

Operations Consultant – Commissioning and Procurement

Reports to: COO/Head of Grant Operations

Open to: Individual consultants or consulting firms with significant experience supporting organisations receiving and distributing public funding to strengthen processes and use of best practice.

Period: Start immediately, with aim to complete audit work by no later than August 2024.

Budget: YEF anticipates a budget of approximately £10,000 and typical day rates for consultants working for the charity range between £500-£650, depending on experience.

About the Youth Endowment Fund

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children and young people from becoming involved in violence. We do this by funding great initiatives, finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.

To make this possible, YEF funds a wide range of organisations aiming to prevent young people from becoming involved in violence. This ranges from delivery organisations providing front line services to young people who need it most, evaluators working with those organisations to understand what’s working, research organisations focused on helping us deeply understand the context and problem, organisations supporting us to put this knowledge into practice, and a variety of organisations supporting our team to execute in the most effective way possible. We have several departments commissioning this work to external organisations and a variety of different processes and mechanisms to do so.

As the volume of work we commission increases across our various departments, we’re looking for an experienced individual or team to support ensuring consistency, compliance with our policies and procedures, and training across a number of different teams on best practice.

Key activities  

· Conduct a thorough desk review on YEF policies and guidance, regarding our commissioning and grant management practices across our programmes, evaluation, research and change departments. Interview a subset of individuals to get a sense of their understanding and comfort with the policies. Produce a written report on how this is going, highlighting any areas where we could improve in consistency or best practice.

· Advise the delivery operations team on how they can best support teams to commission effectively, including helping to clarify roles and responsibilities and ongoing training or support needs for teams.

· If needed, suggest revisions to YEF policies, guidance or agreement templates to support greater efficiency, compliance or best practice.

· Conduct a series of trainings across our different departments to ensure staff responsible for commissioning understand YEF’s policies and best practices for distributing and managing the use of public funding.

· Create a set of public facing materials to help external organisations understand YEF policies and processes for applying for funding, as needed.

Deliverables

· Provide a written report on how YEF is doing adhering to its own policies, ensuring consistency in practice across different teams and adhering to best practice.

· Conduct 3-4 training workshops to different YEF teams, taking into account their own commissioning and grant management requirements.

· Conduct regular, informal advising sessions for a subset of individuals responsible for overseeing commissioning across the organisation.

· Produce a set of public facing guidance on YEF commissioning practice relevant for organisations navigating applications for funding.

· As needed, produce revisions to policy, internal guidance, or agreement templates.

Key requirements

· Must have significant experience of commissioning and procurement within an organisation of comparable size, preferably with organisations receiving and distributing public funding.  

· Experience and proven track record working to improve policies, processes and practices within an organisation.

· Experience of charitable grant-making or research work in the UK, either as a grantee, a grant-maker, or a grant evaluator or researcher.

· A strong understanding of UK government guidelines and legal terms and conditions related to grants and contracts for services. This does not mean you need a law degree, but you must be very comfortable understanding and working with a variety of different agreement mechanisms.

· The ability to understand, collate and synthesise complex sets of information and use them to make informed recommendations.

· Ability to work independently, seeking input from relevant team stakeholders throughout.

Desired experience

· Prior experience working with a What Works Centre or other evidence-focused organisation.

This is the job that reminds you of why you went into this work – to end the harm of children and young people being trapped in repeated criminality and change the focus from one of difficulty to one of aspiration and hope. Leading a team of Practice Development Leads, you will be responsible for equipping SHiFT practitioners with the knowledge and skills they need to flourish, and for supporting practitioners, through intensive on the ground practice guidance, to deliver SHiFT’s practice model and achieve exceptional outcomes for children, young people, and families.

You are likely to be someone with significant senior practice experience in the youth criminal justice or adolescent safeguarding systems, with a thorough understanding of its benefits and limitations and detailed knowledge of its agencies, systems, and policies. You will hold extremely high expectations for the children and young people SHiFT works with, and for the quality of engagement and services they receive from relevant professionals and agencies, and this will be reflected in your determination to develop transformational practice. You will have demonstrable experience of getting the best out of people, across varied professional backgrounds, and innovating to create the training and support needed to deliver exceptional outcomes for children and families. It is likely that you will be frustrated by aspects of the current system, with experience of developing new or emerging interventions and the ambiguity inevitably involved in such an ambitious endeavour as this.

SHiFT’s Head of Practice Development will lead the supervisory and direct practice work SHiFT does with children, young people and the people in their lives who matter. This is a critical role for an expert in practice with complex and highly vulnerable young people. The role is an opportunity to take on a system influencing position to shake up the youth criminal justice system.

The role has been designed so that you would directly lead a small central team and be outwardly focussed on supporting SHiFT Guides and SHiFT Practices to work in ways with young people that are aligned with the SHiFT Framework. We do not want you focussed on managing a large team, developing the central organisation, or managing partnerships with local authorities. We want you to be obsessively focussed on consistently excellent practice.

Key Duties

Working with support and direction from SHiFT’s Director of Practice and Learning, your principal responsibilities will be:

• Ensure quality of practice. You will be responsible for the quality of direct work with young people and their families across the SHiFT Practices.
• With a help of a small practice team, you will work very closely with Guides in local areas ensuring that the high expectations for the work are being met consistently and sustainably.
• You will make active use of data on child outcomes, observations of practice and contributions to group supervision sessions to inform your view of quality.
• Where SHiFT Practices have become stuck in their change work with a young person, your team will be on hand to help them find a way through with creativity, tenacity, and high expectations.
• Implement the professional development programme for SHiFT Guides and contribute to its development.
• You will contribute to the delivery of a programme of induction, direct instruction, coaching, mentoring and supervision to grow the capability and resilience of SHiFT Guides across England, holding overall responsibility for the implementation of SHiFT’s professional development offer.
• Implement the SHiFT Framework and contribute to its development. You will be responsible for holding people accountable for working to the SHiFT Framework, ensuring SHiFT’s highest aspirations for practice quality are met, and contributing to the development of the Framework and associated resources and training to support continuous quality assurance, improvement, and learning. Working with your team of Practice Development Leads, you’ll work closely with Guides, Operational Leads, and other members of the national SHiFT team to ensure that the Framework is widely understood and consistently implemented.
• Promote SHiFT practice for wider system change. You will support wider system changes by role modelling SHiFT’s distinctive approach to practice so that we can influence the adoption of our approach. This will include spotlighting examples of excellent practice with young people and being a town-crier of these stories. 
• Work in lockstep with Partnerships Managers.
• Your practice team will work in tandem with Partnerships Managers who scope and develop partnerships and then ensure that the contractual partnership between SHiFT and local partners is working. Where partnership problems arise, they are often closely linked with, or have a knock-on impact to, practice.

Experience, knowledge and skills:

• Substantial expertise in leading, developing and assuring exceptional practice between practitioners and young people caught in highly risky situations and relationships.
• Knowledge of, and/or experience of using, systemic ideas in practice with children and young people would be highly advantageous. 
• Experience of influencing the practice of others through your own direct line management, through supervision, coaching and teaching.
• Detailed knowledge of youth justice and children’s social care agencies, systems, and policies.
• Experience of developing new or emerging intervention programmes that respond effectively to feedback and learning while managing the ambiguity inevitably involved in such an ambitious project as this.
• Skill in holding others to high expectations through high levels of support and challenge.
• A thorough understanding and experience of using different theories and methods for intervening with children and families to offer help and bring about change in high- risk complex environments.
• An ability to write and speak credibly about complex or technical ideas, as well as a capacity to turn them into practical action, including through practice development activities.

As the Director of Fundraising, you will develop and lead fundraising strategy to diversify and transform the funding of Speakers for Schools. With an initial focus on growing income from high value income streams including, individuals, trusts and foundations, and corporate partners, this role will work with the Fundraising Team to build long term relationships in these areas. As part of the senior leadership team, this role will bring innovation to fundraising strategy and be an advocate for income generation.

To be successful as the Director of Fundraising, this person will have proven experience of leading teams and fundraising strategy delivery. They will have a good breadth of experience of securing income across various income streams, but particularly major donors, trusts and foundations, and corporate partnerships. This role is a full-time permanent position that will be remote with occasional travel to London. The salary for this position is £75,000 to £80,000.
