About the role

As Senior Caseworker, you will provide first and second-tier specialist advice and casework support on a range of welfare benefits issues. You will manage a caseload of complex cases and will take cases to the First-tier Tribunal. Issues we commonly advise on include PIP, LCWRA and Universal Credit.

You will also offer guidance to our Pro-bono Project volunteers on their appeals cases, review cases and submissions to ensure accuracy and quality, and deliver training to PBP project volunteers. You will contribute to the work of the policy team, sharing expertise, insights and evidence.

About you

You will have significant experience as a welfare rights advisor and possess in-depth knowledge of welfare benefits legislation, case law, and procedures, including challenges to decisions and representation at tribunals. You will have at least five years' experience delivering welfare benefits advice on a range of issues and have substantial experience of representing clients at the First-tier Tribunal. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have a commitment to working with communities who are marginalised and underserved.

With a passion for helping people to overcome poverty, you will have the ability to interview, advise, and work with service users empathetically. You will have a commitment to working in an anti-poverty charity that sees Policy & Influencing and Advice work as complimentary and integrated components of its strategy to eradicate poverty. Identifying and highlighting social policy issues and trends arising out of your advice and casework you will help inform our policy influencing and campaigning.

What will I be doing?

Why this role?
As part of B Lab UK’s Finance Team, you’ll play a key part in sustaining our mission to drive positive change in business. By ensuring timely payments and supporting purpose-driven businesses throughout the B Corp certification journey, you’ll help ensure our operations run smoothly and effectively.
 

In this role: 

• Ensure timely collection of payments and manage the debt collection process

• Build respectful, positive relationships with clients, responding to invoice and payment queries

• Monitor and report on outstanding debt, making recommendations where appropriate

• Raise invoices and request credit notes

• Work closely with the outsourced accounting team to resolve income allocation queries

• Support improvements in financial systems and contribute to wider Finance team projects

Job Title: Senior Grant-making Officer

Salary: £34,000–40,000

Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Location: Central London / Hybrid (1-2 days in office per week)

Annual Leave: 25 days paid annual leave, increasing by 1 day per year of service (up to 28 days), plus an additional day for your birthday or key LGBTQI event and time off over the Christmas week.

GiveOut is an award-winning international LGBTQI community foundation bringing together our community and allies to support LGBTQI activism worldwide.

Across the world, courageous activists are working tirelessly to protect LGBTQI communities and advance equality. But they lack resources and funding is fragile, especially in the Global South. LGBTQI groups receive a tiny fraction of international development aid.

GiveOut exists to bridge this gap. About the Role

Grant-making is central to GiveOut’s mission of growing giving to support LGBTQI human rights activism globally. As Senior Grant-Making Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering our grant-making programme, ensuring we effectively channel resources to LGBTQI activist organisations worldwide.

Bringing a passion for and knowledge of international LGBTQI human rights, you will have the opportunity to deepen your skills in grant-making, gain insights into LGBTQI human rights movements worldwide, and build meaningful relationships with LGBTQI activists and organisations across the globe.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sector Expertise and Insights

  • Stay informed about developments in the LGBTQI movement and global LGBTQI rights.

  • Undertake occasional international travel to strengthen relationships and deepen understanding of partner activities.

• Donor and Grant Partner Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with grant partners through regular communication and engagement.

  • Capture and share evidence and success stories from grant partners to engage and inspire GiveOut’s supporters.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to feed grant-making insights into impact reports and donor communications.

  • Represent GiveOut’s grant-making programme externally at events, including occasional evening engagements.

  • Coordinate logistics for grant partner engagements, including developing itineraries, supporting travel arrangements, and ensuring smooth communication with donors and other stakeholders.

• Grant-Making Strategy and Programme Implementation

  • Help shape the design and execution of GiveOut’s grant-making programme 

  • Ensure GiveOut’s Grant-Making Policy and guidance remain up to date with best practices in grant-making and is responsive to the needs of the global LGBTQI movement.

  • Work with the Grant-Making Advisory Panel (GMAP) to identify and assess new grant partners, and coordinate annual GMAP meetings.

• Grant Portfolio Development and Management

  • Develop an annual portfolio of grants, balancing renewals and new partnerships, and collaborate with the Executive Director to present to the Board for approval.

  • Conduct due diligence on grant partners, draft grant agreements, and manage payment processes.

  • Monitor and evaluate partnerships, coordinating narrative and financial reporting to track progress and impact.

  • Maintain and update the grant partner database to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Proven experience in grant-making or a related field such as social impact and development work, research and policy advocacy or program funding and administration within NGOs, government, charities or foundations.

• Demonstrated commitment to or connection with the LGBTQI community.

• Knowledge of global developments in LGBTQI rights and advocacy.

• Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Exceptional organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

• A proactive, motivated, and results-oriented approach, with a strong work ethic. 

• A collaborative team player who actively contributes to a positive, inclusive, and high-performing organisational culture, aligned with GiveOut’s vision and values.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Strong understanding of grant-making theory, processes, and best practices.

• Experience with grants management databases and tools.

• Experience monitoring and evaluating grant-funded programmes.

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.

• Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Drive).

About the role:

Our Women’s Respite is a vital service that provides safety, stability, and support for women with complex needs – from those escaping domestic abuse to those facing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use, and trauma. 

As a Specialist Complex Needs Worker, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of women who have experienced violence against women and girls (VAWG). Working within our accommodation service, you will support clients facing multiple disadvantage, ranging from complex needs to medium and lower levels of support, always tailoring your approach to each individual. This is a role where gender-informed and trauma-informed practice is at the heart of everything you do, ensuring that each client is met with understanding, dignity and a pathway towards safety and stability. You will work closely with external partners and attend multi-agency forums such as MARAC, helping to reduce harm, open up opportunities and ensure every woman feels safe enough to take their next step forward.

Your days will be as varied as they are impactful, one moment you may be facilitating a conversation to encourage engagement in training or education, the next you could be connecting someone with specialist mental health or substance use services, arranging access to primary healthcare or building confidence through meaningful activities within the hostel. Every interaction is an opportunity to empower clients to sustain their accommodation, improve wellbeing, strengthen community connections and move towards independence.

About you:

• Experience supporting women with complex needs, including those who have experienced VAWG, homelessness, mental health issues, or substance use.
• A person-centred approach, using harm minimisation and recovery principles.
• Creativity, flexibility, and resilience in engaging clients who may be hard to reach.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
