About the Role
Reporting to the Legal Director with day-to-day responsibility for scoping, developing and running Good Law Project’s legal cases and projects and for working with the team to build successful campaigns.
What we’re looking for
- Qualification as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales (practising or not practising).
- Civil litigation experience with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Interest in social change and how the law can be used to deliver it.
- Commitment to Good Law Project’s vision of what a better world looks like.
- Understanding of strategic litigation and/or using the law as a campaign tool.
- Experience of leading and managing junior members of staff.
What We Do
-
Good Law Project is a not-for-profit campaign organisation which uses the law to hold power to account, protect the environment and ensure no one is left behind.
-
We had a primary role in overturning the prorogation of Parliament in 2019. We successfully challenged the Government’s operation of a fast track ‘VIP lane’ for awarding lucrative PPE contracts to those with political connections and our campaigning played a key role in the Met Police opening an investigation into Boris Johnson over the Partygate scandal. In July 2023, we forced the Government to accept that its flagship Net Zero strategy is unlawful and to develop a better plan.
-
Our close-knit team of staff work across three core areas: campaigning, legal and operations. We are nimble and reactive to external events which means Good Law Project suits people who thrive in a fast-paced, at times quite pressured environment. You must share our passion for upholding democracy, protecting the environment and ensuring no one is left behind. Our culture is one of openness and innovation which encourages all staff to pitch ideas and influence the organisation’s direction. We are brave, honest and decisive – those are Good Law Project’s values. We recognise the value of our employees, individually and collectively, and are committed to investing in their welfare and development.
-
In August 2022 we established an independent SRA-regulated law firm in London, Good Law Practice, to support and develop our work.

We have two Project Manager vacancies for our Young People in the Criminal Justice System Programme in Bristol. The vacancies are listed separately but we are open to a discussion with candidates who wish to work a combination of both roles, about setting up an alternative working pattern that works for them. We understand that individuals may prefer a variety of tasks and responsibilities and are keen to make this work for the right people.
Project Manager (Support Worker): 1-1 support for young people at risk – 35 hours/week (full-time)
In this role you will provide 1-1 intensive support to a caseload young people who are identified as being at risk of offending or have already had some contact with the justice system (e.g. the police). You will provide face-to-face support to each young person, in their local community, to help them develop confidence, aspirations, and a pro-social mindset. Key to this will be helping them to recognise their strengths and capabilities, consider positive lifestyle choices, and create an action plan to help them move forward to a brighter future.
Project Manager (Course Tutor): “For My Future” delivery for young people – 14 hours/week (part-time)
“For My Future” is a bespoke 6-week course designed in 2019 specifically for people in the justice system. Focusing on both personal skills and practical ones (CVs, applications, interviews), the course is delivered either in person or online to small, single-sex cohorts over a 6-week period. To succeed in this role, you will have experience of supporting people in group scenarios and be confident presenting both in person and online. Groups will need to be carefully managed to ensure each young person gets the best experience and can benefit from the course.

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
IOM UK delivers a range of programming to support migrants, both in the UK and internationally, including projects focusing on diaspora engagement, migration and development, protection, and community cohesion. Simultaneously, we cultivate strategic partnerships that enrich their journeys and amplify their contributions to the societies they are a part of. We collaborate closely with states, partners, and communities to establish innovative, sustainable, and customised mobility solutions, ensuring access to essential services. Our overarching goal is to harness the full spectrum of mobility benefits, enabling individuals and communities to flourish within a well-connected and accessible global landscape. In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of engaging with diaspora communities as valuable partners for both development and humanitarian initiatives. IOM UK is working to assist the Kenyan diaspora in the UK by reducing the costs associated with sending remittances, thereby maximising the benefits and positive impact of these funds for the community. IOM UK will collaborate with both the sending and receiving communities to identify and address barriers that contribute to high remittance costs. This project will involve engaging with diaspora communities in the UK, as well as working with financial industry stakeholders in the UK and with remittance recipients in Kenya.
This position will support IOM’s work under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator and the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission of IOM UK. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating engagement with the Kenyan diaspora in the UK, liaising with relevant stakeholders (such as diaspora organisations and Kenyan decentralised authorities), and implementing project activities on the UK side. Additionally, the role involves liaising with IOM HQ in Geneva for technical expertise and IOM Kenya for overall project implementation.
