As we prepare to launch an ambitious £150 million philanthropic campaign, we are seeking a strategic and driven Prospect Development Manager to lead the delivery of insight-driven prospect management across the Philanthropy and Partnerships Directorate.
You will play a critical role in creating a steady pipeline of new potential supporters for the fundraising teams, as well as helping shape the data and analytics strategy that will measure the impact of our campaign.
You will ensure that business-as-usual activity—such as briefing materials, due diligence, fundraiser portfolio reviews, prospect research, and insight—is delivered to a high standard, with the understanding that over the course of the campaign, these activities will be undertaken primarily in service of the campaign itself, rather than in addition to it
This role is ideal for someone who combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery and is passionate about understanding and engaging supporters who make transformational change possible.
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
Strategy and Planning
· Develop and implement the prospect development strategy to support the successful delivery of a new High Value campaign and long-term income growth.
· Work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure alignment between, BAU, campaign goals and supporter engagement strategies.
· Lead on campaign data reporting, impact measurement, and forecasting to inform decision-making across the Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships teams.
· Ensure the team are maximising the power of AI within Prospect Development.
· Own the campaign Gift Table and utilise it as a key management tool.
· Lead on the strategic planning, income pipeline modelling, and campaign progress reporting.
· Proactively identify, assess, and manage operational and strategic risks within the team, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with organisational policies and relevant regulations.
Prospect Management and Research
· Lead the identification, qualification, and tracking of new major donor and partner prospects across individual, corporate, and foundation giving.
· Design processes to engage volunteers and donors in identifying their key contacts who might be strong major prospects
· Lead on the design and delivery of regular portfolio reviews for relationship managers, using data and insight to optimise pipelines.
· Produce and manage the delivery of high-quality biographies, briefings, and due diligence for meetings and events.
· Work collaboratively with fundraisers to proactively identify new opportunities and ensure prospects are moved through the pipeline efficiently.
· Work with our Research team on potential and current Research Partners, allowing us to be strategic across all of our high value audiences.
· Maintain and continuously improve prospect tracking systems and data quality.
Campaign Insight and Impact
· Design and oversee reporting mechanisms that track the performance and progress of the campaign.
· Provide regular insight and trend analysis to campaign leadership and fundraising teams.
· Use data and supporter intelligence to shape cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Team Management
· Manage and develop a small, high-performing team (currently two direct reports), setting clear goals, providing coaching, and supporting professional development.
· Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and supporter-centric thinking.
· Ensure a consistent and high-quality service is provided to fundraisers and stakeholders across the organisation.
What we are looking for:
· Proven experience in prospect development, prospect research, or fundraising insight in a philanthropic or partnership-focused environment.

Additional Information:
Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

Purpose
The Fundraising Development Officer supports the delivery of our individual giving programme, helping to nurture current supporters and attract new ones.
You will be responsible for building our regular giving support, implementing supporter journeys and co-ordinating our annual appeals. You will also work closely with the Head of Fundraising in developing our major donor plans, and support with other individual giving channels, including in-memory giving and legacy giving.
The role also takes a lead on prospect research, supporting the development of our portfolio of high-value prospects. Through detailed research on prospects and donors, you will build prospect pipelines that will support income growth across the fundraising team. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will see you supporting individual fundraisers across the team nd strengthening the prospect pipelines that drive income at the highest levels. You will use a range of sources to obtain relevant information that can contribute to proposals, communications and donation strategies.

Key responsibilities and duties

Manage our ‘Friends of Charlie Waller’ regular giving scheme, building the supporter numbers and engagement with the charity.

Deliver exceptional supporter care to our regular supporters, recognising opportunities for deeper engagement and potential for further support.

Implement the supporter journeys for regular and one-off donors, creating communications to engage them with the cause and understand the impact.

Co-ordinate our appeals cycle, working closely with colleagues across the charity to collate appeal content, including case studies, statistics and images.

Support the development of our major donor plans, identifying prospects within our supporter base and assisting with stewardship plans.

Support the development of our plans for building in-memory and legacy giving, including stewardship and cultivation events.

Undertake detailed research on prospects and donors to grow our portfolio of high-value supporters, including individuals, corporates and trusts.

Complete due diligence checks on prospective supporters, in line with the Trust’s donations acceptance policy.

Monitor research subscriptions & news alerts to identify new opportunities.

The Team

Overall Purpose of the Role
The Senior Prospect Research Manager will lead the Prospect Research function at the Foundation, with support and direction from the Head of Philanthropy.
You will be accountable for the ongoing development and delivery of the Prospect Research strategy, BE involved in and oversight of other policies and processes related to our pipeline growth and development, involving due diligence, gift acceptance protocols, database management and business planning.
The Prospect Research function will be made up of this role and one Prospect Research Manager, who will report into you. Together, you will ensure that quality prospects are identified, researched and allocated to portfolios in collaboration with the high value fundraising teams. You will lead on our approach to prospect analytics, using data to evaluate fundraiser and programme performance, spot trends and opportunities and improve the efficiency of the team’s activity.

This is an incredibly exciting time to join as our Senior Prospect Research Manager, and the right candidate would have significant scope and autonomy to shape this role and our future Prospect Research strategy.
Working Environment:
The post holder should expect to:
- Work in a hybrid hot desk environment, generally working 2 days a week in the London office and three from home.
- Be responsible for the input and maintenance of databases and files relevant to the post requirements.
- Will occasionally be required to attend events in the evening and at weekends.
Role responsibilities are not exhaustive, and you would be reasonably expected to take on wider tasks that are commensurate with the level of your role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the ongoing development and delivery of the prospect research strategy to generate prospects for identified priorities and to strengthen gaps in the prospect pipeline.
- Implement the prospect research strategy, alongside the Prospect Research Manager, ensuring that prospect identification targets are met, and team members invest regular time in working with key stakeholders to develop prospects.
- Line manages one Prospect Research Manager, as part of leadership of the Prospect Research Function, ensuring collective objectives are met
- Lead on the prospect research and development strategy for a significant capital campaign, which will involve increasing the volume and capacity of our pipeline. This role will drive forward this campaign prospecting strategy, alongside high value fundraisers, the Head of Philanthropy and the Director of Fundraising. Prospecting approaches will include desk research, network mapping of Trustees and other senior stakeholders, and engaging Campaign Board connections.
- Work alongside our Legal team to implement and oversee our Due Diligence policies and processes.
- Oversee the regular data mining of Raiser’s Edge to identify opportunities from amongst our warmest constituents.
- Work closely with fundraising leads to develop the prospect pipeline, in particular building our networks of advocates and influencers. This will include attending meetings with clinicians and other key stakeholders. Qualify and allocate prospects identified by the team.
- Proactively engage with market intelligence which supports the identification of prospects and philanthropic trends, and highlights opportunities for future fundraising growth. This would include regular assessment of insight on transformational donations made worldwide, high net worth individuals and philanthropic trends.
- Undertake strategy research which supports decision making relating to fundraising. This may include competitor analysis and feasibility work.
- Advocate best practice in the recording and processing of prospect data on Raiser’s Edge, ensuring data is accurate, relevant and processed as per the team’s Data Protection Policy and in line with The Data Protection Act 1998/ the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This will include working with the data team to identify data challenges and appropriate solutions for improving prospect data quality and cleanliness.
- Work with the Head of Philanthropy to shape annual plans which best support Fundraisings priorities.
- Provide the highest quality research activity which adds the most value to fundraising. This might include identifying training needs and formulating training sessions for the team.
- Regularly network with sector peers to share best practice and generate insight on the latest developments in prospect research.
- Using data analytics techniques, implement processes and procedures which improve the efficiency and effectiveness of prospect research and prospect identification activity.
- Support the Director of Fundraising and Head of Philanthropy in embedding a performance culture – including tracking identification, prospect movement, conversion rates and cleansing the pipeline on an ongoing basis.
- Take a lead role in using data visualisation techniques to bring new insight to major gifts and prospect pipeline data which informs fundraising strategy.

- Highly experienced Prospect Research professional, ideally having led delivery of prospect research strategies
- Experience of driving high value pipeline growth, contributing to increased income generation
- Experience of prospect/ data analytics.
- Experience of effective internet and electronic research with the ability to analyse and objectively assess the relevance of information to fundraising activity

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver timely and strategic prospect research and intelligence which meets the needs of our fundraising team.
- Conduct fundraising market research, from larger prospect finding projects to prospect ratings work, donor profiles, networks research, competitor analysis and occasional work on cultivation event briefings.
- Work closely with the Senior Prospect Research Manager to ensure the team’s workplan is updated regularly and work assigned is carried out to deadline, sharing any capacity issues or challenges where they arise.
- Carry out due diligence research on prospective donors, producing thorough and objective reports which support fundraising decisions and ensure adherence to our gift acceptance procedures and are agreed with the legal team
- Identify networks of clinicians and stakeholders to assess the opportunities for reaching new potential donors.
- Work with the Senior Prospect Development Manager to undertake work arising from portfolio reviews to clean fundraising portfolios.
- Build strong cross-team working relationships, meeting with fundraisers on a regular basis to discuss needs, manage expectations and gain feedback.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the Raiser’s Edge database which will include regular data mining activity, building complex queries and exports, and the creation of constituent records.
- Advocate best practice in the recording and processing of prospect data on Raiser’s Edge, ensuring data is accurate, relevant and processed as per the team’s Data Protection Policy and in line with The Data Protection Act 2018/ the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018. This will include working with the data team to identify data challenges and appropriate solutions for improving prospect data quality and cleanliness.
- Work with the Senior Prospect Research Manager to develop annual plans which best support Fundraisings priorities.
- Network regularly with sector peers to share best practice and generate insight on the latest developments in prospect research.
- Alongside the Senior Prospect Research Manager, oversee prospect identification for priority fundraising projects and support team members in developing projects for prospecting.
- Proactively engage with market intelligence which supports the identification of prospects and philanthropic trends, and highlights opportunities for future fundraising growth. This would include regular assessment of insight on transformational donations made worldwide, high net worth individuals and philanthropic trends.
Working Environment:
The post holder should expect to:
- Work in a hybrid hot desk environment, generally working 2 days a week in the London office and three from home.
- Be responsible for the input and maintenance of databases and files relevant to the post requirements.
- Will occasionally be required to attend events in the evening and at weekends.

About our office

JOB PURPOSE
UK for UNHCR (UK4U), the UN Refugee Agency's national charity partner, is looking for a Prospect Research Manager to join its Partnerships and Philanthropy Team (PPH). This role will play a key part in continuing to build our UHNWI, HNWI, Trust and Foundation and Corporate pipelines, by working closely with fundraising colleagues as well as UNHCR internationally.
This role reports to the Head of Philanthropy and manages the Prospect Research Officer. The post holder will identify research, organise and evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to the organisation, operating within the organisation’s due diligence process. The post holder will work closely with senior stakeholders within PPH to help drive each area’s strategy and the overall team objectives.
The role manages UK for UNHCR’s due diligence process from renewing due diligence on existing pipelines, to completing new due diligence profiles utilising key due diligence tools and platforms, working with the PPH team, SMT and UNHCR’s global due diligence team.
Passionate about the refugee cause and UNHCR’s contribution, you will have demonstrable experience of successfully identifying prospects as well as preparing and presenting in depth prospect briefs for across the high value fundraising pipeline from UHNW and HNW individuals, Trusts & Foundations and corporates. Role Responsibilities

- Work within UK4U’s due diligence policy and processes, maintaining a system to enable the organisation to track due diligence carried out, ensuring compliance with all regulatory best practice standards.
- Track and manage prospect research KPIS using power BI.
- Produce in-depth, well-written reports on prospects based on a combination of data from the donor database, open access records and other markers of high-quality donors.
- Managing and coaching an officer level prospect research role, overseeing their work on key projects and developing their skills.
- Embed best practice use of the database within the team, developing tools to analyse and review our prospect pool and how prospects are moved through the pipeline.
- Implement new research techniques as they arise, striving to design a high quality and efficient prospect research methodology.
- Carry regular pipeline reviews to ensure pipelines remain dynamic and fit for purpose.

This role exists to develop and deliver effective fundraising campaigns, build and maintain strong relationships with donors and funders, and ensure exceptional stewardship that encourages continued and increased support. Working closely with the senior leadership team and wider organisation, the officer will contribute to a culture of philanthropy, helping to secure vital income through a diverse mix of streams such as individual giving, legacies, corporate partnerships, community fundraising and trusts and foundations.
Through tailored communication, impact reporting, and donor recognition, the Fundraising and Stewardship Officer will ensure that all supporters feel valued and connected. This person centred approach not only helps meet immediate funding goals but also builds a loyal, long-term supporter base, enabling the organisation to deliver meaningful impact in the communities it serves.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and deliver a multi-channel individual giving operational plan that supports donor acquisition, retention, and re-engagement, across online and offline platforms.
- Take ownership of a portfolio of lower-value (up to £5k) trusts and foundations, including community foundations, and contribute to the development of applications for mid-tier funders in collaboration with the Income Generation and Fundraising Lead.
- Maintain and update the income generation pipeline, tracking donor and funder stages, communications, deadlines and actions, and supporting internal reporting.
- Undertake regular prospect research to identify potential new individual donors, corporate partners, community groups, and trusts/foundations, maintaining a prospect tracker with recommendations for cultivation.
- Design and deliver fundraising campaigns and activities tailored to individual donors, including regular giving opportunities, payroll giving, donor clubs and high-net-worth cultivation.
- Manage the processing and stewardship of all individual donations and enquiries – including prompt and appropriate acknowledgements, follow-up, and personalised engagement activity.
- Maintain and oversee the fundraising CRM/database (e.g. Donorfy, Raiser's Edge, Salesforce), including updating records, running reports, creating segments, and supporting targeted communications and mailouts.
- Ensure all data is managed in compliance with GDPR and internal policies, contributing to best practice around data security, consent, and supporter preferences.
- Contribute ideas and input to the development of new income streams and supporter journeys.
