Senior Communications Officer

The Clean Air Fund is looking to recruit a Senior Communications Officer to join their Strategic Partnerships and Communications team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing organisation whose mission is to use philanthropic grants to catalyse a reduction in air pollution.   

As a Senior Communications Officer with Clean Air Fund you would help to support the Clean Air Fund’s communications and engagement with our key audiences of governments, funders, businesses, researchers, civil society organisations and campaigners. You will help proactively shape and deliver Clean Air Fund’s strategic communications activities to tackle global air pollution. You will lead our social media strategy and management to grow our digital audiences and foster deeper engagement. From delivering compelling content to executing digital campaigns to coordinating events, you’ll play a critical role in raising our profile and 
supporting the clean air movement. Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager, you will be responsible for day-to-day delivery of compelling communications and developing our digital channels. You will also support our wider campaigns across all our channels including earned and paid activities.

To be successful in this role you will have 

•  Proven experience in a wide-ranging communications role in a similar sector.
•  Significant experience managing social media channels, and developing and delivering social media strategy.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing multichannel communications campaigns and plans.
• Experience managing projects and running events.
•  Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Experience creating and optimising a range of impactful content, from blogs and webpages to graphics and social assets.
• Excellent editorial and creative judgement.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

About the role 

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sustrans as part of the Policy and Public Affairs team, during an election year, delivering a number of vital pieces of research designed to improve walking, wheeling and cycling and transport more broadly.  

As the Policy Officer, you will lead on delivering two key policy projects for Sustrans with support from our Head of Policy and Senior Policy Officer. You will help develop evidence, policy and practice working closely with colleagues to maximise long-term opportunities to help increase transport choice for people. 

We offer true hybrid working, a flexible mix of working from home and occasional travel to a nearby office hub with an expectation of a monthly team meeting in Bristol and occasional travel for project related activity. 

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans.

About you 

You should have proven experience of conducting qualitative and quantitative research across a variety of issues and in writing for policy and public audiences.   

We also ask that you are experienced in working autonomously but also as part of a team and with funders, partners and agencies to deliver work.  

You will be skilled in presenting arguments and clearly communicating complex information to a range of audiences in an accessible and persuasive way, in person and in writing.

How you will make a difference

As Business Development and Engagement Manager within the Workplace Mental Health & Training team, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth, partnerships, and engagement from corporate and community settings for both Mental Health UK and Rethink Mental Illness. You will work to secure funding from a wide range of sources, including commercial activity, public sector contracts and grant funding, to allow our work to continue and grow.

Working in our National Programmes team, you will ensure that we evaluate, plan for and respond effectively to bids and tenders, lead on the development of proposals, and support service delivery teams in implementing successful tenders/proposals. You will manage a Senior Business Development Officer who supports our work in positioning the organisation to respond to new bids and tenders and, where required, support the implementation of new services.

Who are Women’s Aid?   

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For almost 50 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.    

Purpose of the Senior Communications Officer role:   

As Senior Communications Officer, the successful candidate will be a creative, agile and impactful professional, who will play a pivotal role in shaping Women’s Aid’s communications campaigns, working closely with the Communications Manager and the Head of Media, Brand and Relationships. The successful candidate will take the lead on generating creative, engaging content and ideas for Women’s Aid communications – including major campaign moments and brand awareness. Working across all external channels, including traditional media and social media, you will curate compelling stories that build our profile and target key audiences in our mission to keep women and children safe from domestic abuse. You’ll be joining us at an exciting time, as we mark our 50th Birthday with some powerful campaigns and engagement. 

Key duties and responsibilities of the Senior Communications Officer: 

• To be the key communications officer representing the communications team, developing the key messaging of external campaigns, brand-building and communications for the organisation and developing public awareness of these.

• To lead on planning, drafting and implementing a communications plan for Women’s Aid key communications campaigns such as International Women’s Day, 16 Days, as well as wider organisational projects, incorporating press and social media and providing media support as required. 

• To develop relevant media and social media contacts, as well as contacts in the sector, to maximise the reach and coverage of key communications campaigns as well as wider organisational projects. 

• To work with colleagues to ensure the campaigns take an intersectional approach and centres the most marginalised voices. 

• To work with a diverse range of survivor case studies and media spokespeople, including Women’s Aid member organisations, and to ensure they are treated in an appropriate and safe manner.

• To help identify both proactive and reactive media opportunities. 

• To write blogs, news articles and promotional copy for Women’s Aid.

What we are looking for in our Senior Communications Officer: 

• At least two years experience working in communications/journalism/publications or similar. 

• Experience of liaising with a variety of individuals and organisations of all seniorities, internally and externally. 

• Experience of maintaining systems for information storage and retrieval.

• Experience of online communications/websites/social media, including Content Management Systems. 

• Experience delivering public-facing campaigns with a range of stakeholders. 

• Experience in getting effective PR results. 

• Ability to produce high quality written material, for copy writing, copy editing and publicity materials, posters and press releases.

This role would best suit someone with significant experience leading policy research programmes – in a think tank, consultancy, central or local government, academia or similar. You will have a strong understanding of policy in London and the UK, project management skills, and be able to credibly communicate complex ideas to different audiences – in meetings, in writing, through blogs and articles, and in speeches. You will have strong analytical skills, including a track record of qualitative and quantitative research. You will have experience in fundraising, will have managed budgets, and will be confident working with researchers at different stages in their careers. However, we are less interested in what you have done, and more in what you can do.

This is ideally a full-time role; however, flexible working is embedded within our culture. The service is targeted at older people in or facing financial hardship, and provides information, advice and follow up support relating to a range of issues, including Welfare Benefits, Social Care and Housing. 

As an Adviser (Health Social Care and Housing) you will be responsible for providing specialist support to older people, their families and carers through our advice service with their housing and social care enquiries as well as providing generalist level support on a range of issues through our duty service. 

 You should have in depth, specialist level knowledge of Health and Social Care or Housing (ideally both) as they relate to older people, experience of working within a high volume advice setting and advice supervision framework such as the AQS framework

About the role: 

We are recruiting for the post of Head of Communications to play a leading role in promoting an accurate, positive, and informed view of the Arts Council, and of the activity we support.  The Head of Communications ensures that we promote our work in a single consistent voice, in a manner that is arresting, engaging and accessible.

The Head leads a team of Communication specialists who together develop print and electronic material – in Welsh and English – that reflects the Arts Council’s values, ambitions and identity. A key goal for the team is to promote the arts in innovative ways to reach a new and broader audience. About you:

Our Helpline runs from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic, warm and experienced individual to support our dedicated Helpline Volunteers and Befriending Volunteers within the Helpline team.

This role requires working flexible hours, including 9am–5pm, 10am–6pm or 11am–7pm between Monday to Friday to meet services and volunteer needs (3 days a week).

If you’re passionate about offering high quality information and emotional support and have relevant Helpline experience, we’d love to hear from you.

You will be providing continuous support to all our volunteers at the Helpline team, directly contributing in providing information and support to our Helpline enquirers, with both proactive and reactive content and information on prevalent topics or trends affecting the MS community.

The successful post-holder will work between St Margaret Clitherow Centre and the Cathedral (2 days per week), with travel across the Archdiocese as required. We’re the Portman Group, the UK’s self-regulatory body for alcohol marketing and we are looking for someone to provide advice and training to the alcohol industry on our marketing rules.  We have two Codes of Practice: the Naming, Packaging and Promotion of Alcoholic Drinks and the Alcohol Sponsorship Code.  Each Code outlines a set of responsible marketing rules that the alcohol industry must abide by.  Our primary purpose as a regulator is to protect those who are vulnerable, particularly those who are under-18.

No previous experience of working in the alcohol industry or marketing regulation is necessary as full training will be provided.

Details of role

· Deliver training and briefing sessions on the Codes and on alcohol social responsibility. This includes delivering sessions virtually and in person within the UK.

· Responsible for responding accurately and promptly to written requests for advice on product marketing from producers and their agencies alongside other members of the Regulatory Affairs Team.

· To raise standards of responsibility in the industry by undertaking proactive trademark searches of newly registered products and providing unsolicited advice where necessary.

· With the support of the team, provide internal and external reporting analysis of advice requests on a monthly basis.

· Monitor product innovations via social media and press publications to identify emerging trends and provide unsolicited advice where necessary.

· Support the team in drafting blogs, newsletters, industry advice pieces and an annual Regulatory Affairs Report.

· Support the team in wider regulatory communications, including distribution of content.

· To support the Regulatory Affairs team more widely by:

o Attending industry events;

o Assisting with the recruitment of new Code Signatories;

o Providing project support as required.

· To be flexibly deployed on any other work as required by the Director of Regulatory Affairs or Chief Executive, taking into account the needs of a small organisation.
