Job description

Are you an experienced operations leader looking to use your skills to help vulnerable young people experiencing homelessness?

Charity People are thrilled to be supporting Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) to recruit an Interim Head of Operations to support the continued success and growth of the charity through effective management, communication and relationship-building.

Salary: £44,000
Contract: Interim role until 31st January 2026, (with the opportunity to become permanent) full-time, 37 hours per week (0.8 also considered)
Location: Hybrid role with two days a week in the SASH offices (Scarborough on a Monday and York on a Tuesday) and three days working from home.
Benefits: 28 days annual leave per annum plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time working), a 5% pension contribution and enhanced maternity leave and shared parental leave. SASH is a proud Living Wage Foundation Employer.
Culture: Flexible, supportive, able to work with autonomy

About the charity

SASH has been delivering life-changing work for over 30 years. They provide emergency, short-term, and longer-term supported accommodation in the homes of volunteer hosts, creating safe spaces for young people to stay while they get back on their feet. Their Nightstop and Supported Lodgings programmes are a lifeline for those at risk of rough sleeping, unsafe environments, or unstable family situations.

But they don't stop there. Through their Enhancement programme, SASH goes beyond housing to help young people build resilience, confidence and independence through support in education, employment, mental health and life skills.

About the role

As Interim Head of Operations, you'll work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to ensure the charity continues to deliver high-quality, well-governed services. This is a strategic role with a strong delivery element.

You'll be responsible for:
* Line managing a team of 5 incl. Operational Project Managers
* Acting as Designated Safeguarding Lead, providing advice, expertise and assurance across the organisation
* Leading operational delivery including HR, budgets, compliance, and internal processes
* Supporting the successful delivery of existing services while implementing new ideas and initiatives

About you

We're looking for an operationally confident leader with a strategic mindset and a practical, compassionate approach to leadership.

You'll bring:
* Experience leading operations in a charity or public sector setting
* A sound understanding of safeguarding and risk management
* Strong line management and team development skills
* Experience working with or managing volunteers
* The ability to lead through change and embed new ways of working effectively

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a collaborative, forward-thinking team with a strong sense of purpose and impact.

To apply please send a copy of your profile or CV to Ellen Drummond at Charity People as the first step.

Please note, as this is an interim role, we'll be recruiting on a rolling basis. Please get in touch as soon as possible if you are interested, we would love to begin conversations with interested candidates early.

If a rolling deadline disadvantages you in any way, please get in touch with Ellen and she'll do her very best to ensure you don't miss out.

Deadline: 9am Wednesday 6th August

Charity People is a forward thinking, inclusive organisation that actively and deliberately promotes equity, diversity and inclusion. We know organisations thrive when inclusion is at the forefront. We evidence our commitment by matching charity needs with the skills and experience of candidates irrespective of background e.g. age, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. We do this because we believe that greater diversity leads to greater results for the charities we work with.
