Job description

Role Summary

You will work as part of the Corporate Services Directorate, which provides critical business support functions to enable PSVT to operate effectively, achieve its corporate priorities and meet statutory regulatory requirements. PSVT’s mission includes creating an inviting place for people to live, work and visit’; you will champion best practice and ensure that PSVT delivers continuous improvement to support this mission and be a brilliant place to work.

The People & Business Support Officer is a key point of contact for employees; you will therefore be approachable, trustworthy and reliable. With support from external HR consultants, you will provide advice and guidance to staff and line managers to deal correctly and confidently with a range of issues. You will also provide support to PSVT’s volunteer workforce. A strong sense of integrity is critical to the role.

PSVT is a diverse business with ambitious plans; you will be a flexible and self-motivated individual, able to respond to change, identify priorities and take appropriate action. You will have the ability to keep several workstreams running at once. You will have an eye for detail, and a commitment to keeping up with current legislation and best practice.

Key Accountabilities

1. Develop and maintain robust internal policies and procedures, ensuring these are effectively communicated, implemented, and consistently observed across the organisation.

2. Maintain accurate records with integrity and appropriate control of data, analyse and report to the Leadership Team in a timely manner.

3. Facilitate best practices in recruitment and retention, supporting and empowering line managers in administrative processes such as performance management, training, annual leave, and sickness absence. Ensure internal procedures run smoothly while liaising with external HR consultants for complex or compliance-related matters.

4. Handle HR and staff issues sensitively and confidentially. Escalate complex or legal matters to external HR consultants, ensuring appropriate expertise is applied.

5. Ensure legal compliance by liaising with external consultants, staying informed on employment legislation and best practices. Provide internal guidance to the Leadership Team while proactively coordinating with consultants on specialised HR matters.

6. Be at the forefront of PSVT’s commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, embedding these principles into internal HR processes and fostering an inclusive organisational culture.

7. Advocate for workforce wellbeing by supporting internal initiatives, facilitating access to relevant resources, and engaging external consultants for specialist wellbeing support where necessary.

8. Champion PSVT’s internal communications, driving staff engagement and input as part of the Employee Engagement Group

9. Support the business as required, including monitoring the complaints process and providing holiday/absence cover for Reception.

10. Maintain log of GDPR issues and notify any reportable breaches

11. Carry out duties in a manner that reflects PSVT‘s values at all times.

12. Undertake any further duties determined as reasonable and necessary in the fulfilment of the role.

Person Specification

  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a desire to ‘see it through’
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook software, and with a good understanding of IT systems
  • Attention to detail; able to analyse information, investigate causes and recommend solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to work well with others and able to influence across the organisation
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a role with a similar level of responsibility
