We're looking for an LGBTQ+ drug and alcohol recovery worker to jin our Antidote drug and alcohol service.

London Friend’s Antidote service provides high quality drug & alcohol psycho-social treatment and support to LGBTQ+ people utilising harm reduction & abstinence-based methods.  Antidote is a part of London Friend which aims to support and promote health & wellbeing for LGBTQ+ people living in the London area.

We are working in partnership delivering substance misuse treatment and support in the London Boroughs of Westminster; Kensington & Chelsea; and Hammersmith & Fulham. This is led by Turning Point. London Friend is the LGBTQ+ lead for the partnership.

Recovery support workers will provide support to LGBTQ+ people experiencing difficulties with drug or alcohol use, including supporting those engaged in chemsex, and incorporating HIV prevention initiatives and sexual health support. They will hold a caseload of clients and be responsible for their assessment, case planning, review, and ongoing care. They will deliver group programmes and provide outreach to LGBTQ+ people in community settings including local sexual health clinics.

The postholder will be employed by London Friend and work within a multi-agency team based in the Boroughs and local satellite locations including the local Turning Point service several times a week. They will also assist with the delivery of Antidote’s services, including our walk-in clinics and group programmes, with a priority on identifying and supporting residents of the Boroughs.

Job Purpose

This role sits within our new forensic Women’s Nova Roots service, which is a peer led service for women who are leaving forensic services, based in West London. The service will be open 3 days a week: one weekday evening out of hours and three weekends a month (flexible weekend pattern and times can be arranged).

The aim of the service is to support women who are leaving forensic care to re-integrate into society by offering a community social hub. The focus of the service is to provide social engagement, relaxation and a touch point for out of hours forensic support. The Women’s Hub will provide face-to-face holistic group support, offer psychoeducation and health workshops tailored and coproduced to the direct needs of clients, offer peer-led groups which will be co-designed and led by the clients accessing the hub. We will also offer a range of activities onsite.

Nova Roots will be an extension of the existing support offered by the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT), offering out of hours social support. All referrals into the hub will be directly from the SCFTs and local hospitals.

The Nova Roots will be staffed with 1 part time Project Coordinator and 4 Forensic/Peer Led Volunteers – with Service Manager oversight. The Project Coordinator will work directly and closely with the SCFTs.

The Role

The role of the Nova Roots Project Coordinator is to arrange and coordinate a range of psychoeducation, health and peer-led workshops which will be delivered 3 times a week. The Nova Roots Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing the 4 peer-led volunteers and oversight of the site 3 days a week. The Nova Roots Project Coordinator will also be required to be in regular communication with the SCFTs.

The role will require hybrid working: onsite when the hub is open and 1 day of planning/coordination which can be worked remotely on a rota basis.

Salary: £27,008 per annum (£17,285.12 pro rata)

Our client are looking for someone who brings compassion, resilience, and lived experience to the role of Peer Support Worker at their Phoenix Rehab Unit in Springfield Hospital.

This is a meaningful opportunity to use your personal journey to support individuals navigating their own recovery. As part of a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, you’ll offer emotional and practical support to inpatients and continue to work with them in the community after discharge, helping them build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.

You will:

• Use your own lived experience to build trust and inspire hope
• Support service users in developing coping strategies, social skills, and independence
• Assist individuals in identifying goals and personal interests
• Help monitor progress and recognise early signs of relapse
• Facilitate connections with community resources and services
• Support reconnection with family, friends, and wider networks
• Provide up to 12 weeks of follow-up in the community post-discharge
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to service evaluations
• Promote recovery-focused, strength-based approaches in all interactions

You bring:

• Personal lived experience of mental health challenges (essential)
• A willingness to share your recovery journey appropriately
• Excellent communication, listening, and organisational skills
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and recording notes
• The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• A strong understanding of boundaries, safeguarding, and confidentiality
• A commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and anti-stigma principles
• The ability to travel across boroughs using public transport

The Unit is a 16-bed specialist inpatient rehabilitation facility supporting people with enduring mental health conditions. They provide 24-hour care in a supportive environment that bridges the gap between hospital care and independent living. You’ll join a forward-thinking team that prioritises patient empowerment and sustainable recovery.

Their experienced clinically led teams are focused on directly addressing a range of mental health needs in our communities. They combine innovative solutions with decades of local community knowledge to empower people to live the life they choose. They partner with the NHS and local authorities to deliver clinically driven frontline services with fantastic outcomes. They focus on early intervention and prevention, targeting mental health conditions at the most cost-effective stage, while also supporting people with moderate to severe mental health needs across our communities.

A site visit will take place on Wednesday 18th June at the Unit.

About The Role

This is an exciting role working within a pioneering new project, which will complement and support the work of the Pan-London Navigators in helping clients with an extensive history of rough sleeping to sustain accommodation in the community and build a new life away from the streets. It is an opportunity to develop your skills working in a dynamic environment within a highly experienced team.

In this role you will:

• Work alongside Navigators to support clients on the LNT cohort who are moving into tenancies to set up home, build independent living skills and establish meaningful connections to help them settle in their accommodation long-term
• Lead on pre-tenancy work and tenancy sustainment support, ensuring that clients are able to stay on top of their bills, benefits and other tenant responsibilities
• Organize “Community Club” outings with the rest of the Housing Led team to create an empowering and safe social space for residents to interact with each other

Working hours are Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm.

We are looking for a compassionate person with a genuine interest in recovery and belief in sustained change for individuals whatever their background. You will need to be proactive and willing to be flexible in response to client needs and the demands of the service. You will be solution-focused with strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
