The Role
Our Practitioner Led Assessment Service is the entry point for our beneficiaries seeking support from the Charity. Our Assessment Practitioners work in partnership with our beneficiaries to identify goals, individual needs and appropriate solutions.

The team provide advice, information and support and work collaboratively with the multi-professional team to ensure our beneficiaries are offered the right support at the right time.

Reporting into the Beneficiary Experience and Continuity Lead you will be responsible for day-to-day management of the practitioner led assessment service, holding a small case load and reviewing and resolving complex cases with the team. 

You will work collaboratively with key stakeholders across health improvement and rehabilitation services, to ensure services are integrated, person centred, outcome focused and based on an ethos of recovery.

About You
An excellent communicator, with a can-do-attitude, you will be a registered health or social care practitioner with a broad skill and knowledge base and will be experienced in managing a multi-professional team.

To be successful, you will:

• Be a registered health or social care practitioner, with membership of a relevant professional body
• Have experience of managing a multi-professional team within a health or social care setting
• Have experience of conducting telephone assessments (health and wellbeing), service user risk assessments and delivering advice and information to improve health and wellbeing
• Be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels, both verbally and in writing, together with sound judgment skills
• Have the ability to travel (within the UK) on occasion
• Have a suitable working area and space available that is free from distraction (if home working or hybrid).  You will be provided with a laptop computer and access to our telephone systems and digital tools such as MS Teams.

Starting salary range: £12,373 to £15,122 pro rata per annum depending on experience (£24,745 to £30,243 full time equivalent)

• Provide education and guidance on harm reduction, including distributing needles and syringes, offering brief and extended recovery interventions, addressing blood-borne viruses, and preventing overdoses through naloxone programs.
• Assist clients in accessing education, employment, health, and recovery support services, while also connecting them with other relevant resources.
• Provide evidence-based, personalised psychosocial support both individually and in group settings, integrated seamlessly into comprehensive care plans, while proactively addressing any disengagement issues.
• Empower volunteers, peer mentors, and client representatives to actively participate in the services.
• Identify and mitigate risks in line with local, national, and organisational safeguarding policies.

As well as ensuring the quality of service and support provided to people who use our services, you will line manage front line staff and organise any building maintenance requirements. Whether you’re carrying out an induction, undertaking an investigation, putting team development plans in place or providing support to our business development team, one thing’s for sure – you won't be short of challenge and variety. We’re currently working towards being awarded ‘Outstanding’ at our next CQC inspection and you will play an integral part in helping us to achieve this.

Substantial experience gained managing a caseload of individuals with complex needs is a given, as well as being outcome driven and able to lead by example using your firm but inclusive management style. You’re open and encouraging too and have lots of tact and diplomacy. What's more, you're great at managing conflicting priorities on time, have a flexible attitude to working hours and are willing to participate in on call arrangements. And, if you have experience of carrying out investigations, writing reports/recommendations or managing budgets, even better, although it's not essential as we offer an extensive induction and training programme for managers.

The service operates two sleep-ins per night (paid at £70.47 per 9-hour sleep-in) and an on-call rota (paid at £18.00) to cover a sleep-in/day shift in the event of absence – applicants should be flexible and available to cover sleep-ins and fill in on the on-call rota where needed.

Windsor Road is a registered CQC residential care home which offers 11 beds to people experiencing mental ill health. We offer individual one-to-one interventions and sessions such as social anxiety, anxiety, finance and budgeting, positive self-image, building self-esteem, support with diet and nutrition, healthy eating, sleep hygiene, DBT skills, building resilience, life skills, solution-based therapy, stress management etc. We offer a range of activities in our service planner including a daily coffee morning, a ‘here and now’ group, community gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, social inclusion and family and friends’ days.  We support our residents with daily living skills where this is needed, such as support with shopping and cleaning tasks, this could include prompting or supporting alongside them. We also work closely with other agencies and our residents wider care teams, so good communication skills are required. And of course, all of this is recorded on our information management systems, so good record keeping and documentation is also essential. Our service consists of 8 24/7 Recovery Workers, a Service Manager and Registered Manager.

London Gypsies and Travellers (LGT) is an organisation which challenges social exclusion and discrimination, working for change in partnership with Gypsies and Travellers. We work with families across London Boroughs, living on council caravan sites, roadside camps, with those living in bricks and mortar housing, and those experiencing homelessness. We work together with Gypsies and Travellers to build the capacity of individuals and their communities to influence the decisions that affect their lives through our front-line support services, growing youth mentoring programme, community development projects, campaigns and policy work. We are a small, committed and collaborative team (currently 10 staff members), embarking on an exciting period of growth and innovation in our work.

Job purpose

This role is pivotal in ensuring the financial sustainability and integrity of LGT, developing resilient foundations for our front-line services, community development, policy and campaigns work to grow in scale and impact.

Working closely with the CEO, Project and Team Leads, you’ll lead all aspects of financial management from budgeting, accounting and compliance, financial management of grants, to reporting to the Finance Committee to support the Board of Trustees and leadership with financial planning and decision making. Finance is the core of the role, however you’ll also use your data management and organisation skills to help us maintain and develop our workflow and data management systems and processes, and oversee other core operational functions delivered by our Business Operations Administrator.

We are a small, collaborative and committed team, with ambitious plans to grow the impact of our work and to diversify and grow our income in the coming years. As a newly created role, sitting within our senior leadership team and reporting to the CEO, there’s huge scope to contribute your experience and ideas to the strategic and operational development of the organisation - and invest in your own professional development too. Role responsibilities

1. Financial leadership: Strategic finance leadership including financial modelling, meeting reserves targets, contributing to long term funding strategy, income diversification and risk management.

2. Budget management: Lead timely and detailed budget setting, monitoring and reporting across the organisation including management accounts.

3. Finance systems: Manage and develop the end-to-end finance system including day to day bookkeeping processes for the organisation, keeping track of income and outgoings, reconciliations and maintaining efficient systems and processes.

4. Banking and payments: Supervise outsourced payroll and pensions provider, administer internal payments processing and maintain all relevant banking administration and other relevant online accounts.

5. Grant management: Lead financial reporting for multiple grants, keeping track of deadlines, delegating tasks and preparing budgets for new grant and commissioning opportunities.

6. Compliance: Ensure appropriately robust financial controls, including compliance with Companies House, Charity Commission requirements, preparation and liaison for annual audits with our accountant.

7. Governance: Prepare budget and finance information for the Board of Trustees, also liaising with and servicing the Board Finance Committee.

8. Operations: Oversee a Business Operations Administrator fulfilling core operational functions including payroll, procurement, contracts with service providers and outsourced functions including IT.

9. Data and organisational systems: Play a leadership role championing efficient workflow management, reporting systems, and the continuous improvement of data capture, storage and analysis across the organisation.

10. Supervision and teamwork: Collaborate effectively with all colleagues, with frequent delegation, potential for supervision of line-reports, and support with occasional coaching on financial systems and requirements.

11. Learning and personal growth: Contribute to a supportive and courageous learning environment organisationally and commit to personal professional growth.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

1. Experience of working in a finance management role in a charity or social impact-driven context.

2. Ability to operate strategically, proactively flagging and acting on opportunities and risks for the organisation.

3. Experience of delivering and managing all core finance and accounting processes to support budgeting, reporting which supports sound financial management and decision making.

4. Experience of financial management for grants and restricted funds, including drafting project budgets and financial reporting.

5. Experience of identifying and implementing improvements to financial controls, processes and operational systems.

6. Experience of short and longer-term financial planning to support financial resilience building.

7. Good Excel skills to support full cost recovery and income diversification strategies.

8. Experience using database/CRM technologies to store and analyse data.

9. Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrable track record of managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

10. Good written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate and present complex finance information in a clear and simple way to a range of stakeholders including funders, Trustees, to auditors and colleagues.

11. High levels of personal integrity and a commitment to equality and challenging discrimination.

12. Strong IT skills including advanced Excel knowledge and experience using Xero or similar accounting software.

13. A resilient attitude to work, embracing change and approaching challenges with positivity, creativity and perseverance.

14. Effective delegation skills to colleagues at all levels and external consultants.

15. Ability to work flexibly to respond to changing needs of Gypsy and Traveller communities and the organisation.

Desirable

16. A professional finance/accounting qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, AAT or qualified by experience.

17. Experience of lead responsibility for management accounting.

18. Familiarity with the requirements and processes for statutory bodies e.g. Companies House, Charity Commission and annual independent audit.

19. Knowledge of GDPR requirements and best practices in data management and protection.

20. Knowledge of VAT considerations and requirements for charities or small companies.

21. Line-management experience.

22. Knowledge of workflow management tools and processes.

Entering accurate case notes onto our IT system will be important too. And, when it comes to regularly liaising with GP surgeries, the local council, charities etc. or promoting the service within the community, again, we'll count on you.

What is for certain is that you’re caring, consistent, flexible and creative, work well under pressure, know how to connect with people at all levels and, like us, are keen to break down the stigma of mental health. Oh and you’re happy working independently or, as a valued member of our team, being part of a weekly rota system and available for on call duties. Working pattern is over 7 seven days a week 9-5pm, you will also be required to work some weekends and evening shifts.
