Job description

Would you like to bring your expertise, skills, and experience to an exciting, dynamic and growing charity?  Are you passionate about supporting bereaved children, parents and families? 

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated and highly organised individual to join our team to help provide emotional and practical support to bereaved families at their time of need. 

Applicants must have a recognised, health, social care, or counselling qualification, experience in working with parents, children and families, excellent communication skills and most importantly be passionate about supporting bereaved families.

Job Purpose

To provide bereavement support to children and young people bereaved of a parent/guardian or sibling.

To work in a fun and creative way to promote positive mental health and minimise negative outcomes because of their bereavement.

 General duties

  • To participate in the assessment and planning process.
  • To support bereaved children through a range of fun based creative interventions, including group work, focused session’s and one to one support and activity days.
  • To provide information for bereaved families about grief and help them understand some of the feelings they may experience.
  • To provide support that encourages open communication within the family.
  • To provide families with the opportunity to meet others with similar experiences in a safe environment.
  • To assist in the continuing development of services to meet the needs of bereaved children and families.
  • To attend relevant professional meetings and maintain effective relationships with referrers and other professionals.
  • To assist with the monitoring/evaluation of OUAS programmes.
  • To support with the selection, training, and support of volunteers.

The post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The successful candidate must be committed to the safeguarding of children and young people.
