New Citizens’ Gateway (NCG) is an independent, registered charity working in partnership with individuals and agencies to improve the quality of life for refugees and asylum seekers. Our aim is to reduce health inequalities, combat social exclusion and poverty, and support integration and independence.

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Outreach Support Officer to join our small, friendly, and dedicated team. This role will focus on delivering high-quality, person-centred support to asylum seekers, particularly those currently accommodated in hotels across London.

This is a key position within NCG and will play a vital role in supporting our advice team to deliver an efficient, effective, and holistic support service tailored to the complex needs of asylum seekers and refugees.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Direct experience of supporting asylum seekers and refugees

• Strong knowledge of the asylum support system and the challenges faced by individuals in the asylum process

• An understanding of available resources and services that support asylum seekers and how to access them

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills

• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

• A flexible and proactive approach with the capacity to manage a varied workload

• Fluency in a community language is an advantage

Some of the work will be providing specialised wrap around support to children and their families where the child has been, or is currently being sexually exploited (CSE support). You will provide information about reporting processes; support CYP who have reported to the police; provide emotional support to CYP when they give their evidence in court and provide information about other options, such as civil action and Criminal Injuries Compensation.

12 month fixed-term contract with opportunities for extension (funding dependent)

An approved and accredited ISVA qualification is preferable for this post, and will start at the accredited salary rate. However, candidates who demonstrate and live RSVP’s values (bold-believing-big hearted), and have a willingness to work towards ISVA accreditation will also be considered.

Salary

Untrained ISVA: £31,067 (NJC 19) full time equivalent plus 3% employer pension contribution

Accredited ISVA: £32,654 (NJC 22) full time equivalent plus 3% employer pension contribution

Hours of work 

Full-time | 38 hours per week | Working hours pattern: 3 days working 9am-5pm, 1 day working 9am-3pm and 1 day working 11am-7pm | 2 days working from home a week

Standard office hours (9am-5pm) with a requirement to work late one evening a week. You may occasionally be require to work outside of hours.

Purpose of post:

To provide a high quality and victim/survivor-focused advocacy service to CYP who have been subjected to sexual violence, abuse, sexual exploitation and/or coercion, in order to:

• Provide emotional and practical support, at every stage of the victim/survivor journey
• Pro-actively and assertively advocate for those who have reported to the Police, are thinking of doing so, or choose not to report (safeguarding guidelines will be followed at all times).
• Ensure that the voices, needs, rights and legal entitlements of children and young people are heard, understood and acted upon by all individuals and organisations.
• Following safeguarding assessments and reduce risk to keep children and young people (and others) safe
• Ensure that victims/survivors can access the health and other support services that they need.
• Support the work of the CYP ISVA Team, and the wider ISVA Team (Adult, LGBT, Sex Worker and Race and Equality ISVAs) which may include working within Umbrella sexual health settings and other appropriate services as required.
• Work closely with our Counselling and Wellbeing Services Teams.

Background

Refugee Action Kingston (RAK) is a well-established charity dedicated to supporting refugees and asylum seekers from anywhere in the world who find themselves in the Royal Borough of Kingston and neighbouring boroughs. Since its foundation in 1991, RAK has been the main provider of direct services to refugees and asylum seekers as well as promoting refugee rights.

RAK aims to support refugees through the process from their initial reception in the borough through to final integration into the local community in order to enable them to live a fulfilling life and become accepted and active participants in our local communities.  We achieve this by accomplishing a variety of outcomes for refugee and asylum-seeking families through delivering a holistic service including advice, information, counselling, education, training, and assistance in access mainstream services and employment opportunities to help them rebuild their lives.

We are looking for a registered solicitor or someone qualified up to level 3, although we will also be happy to hear from people who are qualified up to IAA Level 2 Asylum. We are currently not in a position to support people to qualify for IAA Level 2, so please do not apply if you do not already have it. 

Purpose of the Post

Refugee Action Kingston provides free and independent information and advice on a one-to-one basis to refugees and asylum seekers on immigration (Level 3), welfare benefits, education, training, employment, housing, access to health and social care. Where we cannot help we refer clients to solicitors and other specialist help.

The purpose of this job is to provide an effective and efficient face-to-face Immigration Advice to IAA leve l2 or 3, within the aims, policies and principles of Refugee Action Kingston.  And to provide consultancy and advice to colleagues on Immigration and Asylum issues.

Duties and responsibilities:

Casework

• Provide face to face Immigration and Asylum advice and casework to IAA Level 2 or 3
• Act for the client where necessary by liaising with the Home Office, external agencies and other Immigration Advice providers in progression of a case.
• Negotiate and advocate on behalf of clients with third parties as appropriate, both verbally and in writing.
• Assist clients with other related problems where they are an integral part of their case and refer to other advisers or specialist agencies as appropriate
• Know and understand the limits of Level 3 IAA Advice and be prepared to refer or signpost onwards when work reaches these boundaries.
• Ensure that all casework conforms to RAK Advice Service office standards and policies.
• Maintain case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring, and report preparation
• Write and maintain notes on individual client cases, manually and electronically. To ensure files and appropriate records are kept in accordance with good practice and standards.
• Follow all policies and procedures relating to the advice service and work within the limitations expected of the service

Professional Development

• Attend internal and external training courses as appropriate. Staff are expected to keep themselves informed on current issues relating to their work.
• Keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures and attend appropriate training as agreed with the manager.

• To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.
• Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service
• Actively support and promote the principles of equal opportunities
• Uphold the aims and principles of RAK Advice Service and ensure that funder’s requirements are met and observe agreed policies on child safeguarding, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality etc.

Asylum Matters is looking for a dynamic campaigner committed to upholding the rights of people seeking asylum in Yorkshire & Humber and across the UK at a critical time. Asylum Matters plays a significant role in working towards positive change for refugees and people seeking asylum. We are a small team based around the UK, working locally and nationally with an extensive network of partners to advocate for progressive change in the asylum system. We work with frontline organisations and people with lived experience across the UK on a range of issues that affect people in the asylum system. We co-lead the award-winning Lift the Ban coalition campaign, that brings together almost 300 organisations calling for the right to work for people seeking asylum. The Yorkshire & Humber Campaigns Manager also lead our Lift the Ban campaign Nationally, working with our powerful coalition to raise our collective voices and call for working rights for people in the asylum system.

We are a facilitator of collaboration and joint action. Our work helps strengthen collective advocacy on asylum reform and ensures it is informed by the reality on the ground. We became an independent charity in 2021 and have ambitious plans for the future as we seek to maximise the potential of our collaborative campaigning model and identify opportunities for change at local, regional and national levels, in a challenging external environment.

The successful candidate will work in partnership with local organisations and networks in Yorkshire & Humber to develop and implement strategies for achieving change locally and nationally. They will have experience of developing and delivering impactful campaigns that have achieved change. They will be an effective communicator, able to build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with partners. They will be proactive, able to spot influencing opportunities and quickly mobilise support to respond to them. They will have a commitment to the vision of a fairer and more effective asylum system, and to empowering and working with those with direct experience of it.

HIAS+JCORE stands for a world in which refugees find safety, community, and are welcomed by good neighbours, built on our Jewish values and history of Compassion (Rachamim), Responsibility (Arvut), Solidarity (Shlemut) and Partnership (Gishur). Our organisation came into this form through the joining of forces in 2023 between two organisations: the Jewish Council for Racial Equality (JCORE) and HIAS. Responsibilities 

Mobilising community groups  

• Build and maintain relationships with synagogues and communal denominations.  

• Work with clergy, synagogues and denominations to develop programmes and content related to refugees, asylum, social cohesion, and xenophobia, including a network of advocates and ambassadors within communities.  

• Develop outreach and recruitment pathways for community members to volunteer in HIAS+JCORE projects and beyond.  

• Develop and pilot a project of community-based volunteering, building relationships with sector partners and Jewish communities to support, resource, and network such groups.  

• Support the coordination between and development of local community projects that engage with asylum seekers and refugees, including Drop Ins, community sponsorship (Welcome Circles), and collections.  

• Where possible, foster interdenominational dialogue and interfaith partnerships.  

Developing and delivering our youth and student work  

• Work with youth movements, students, and community groups to develop programmes and content related to refugees, asylum, social cohesion, and xenophobia.  

• Arrange visits, including with speakers, to campuses and communities.  

• Develop new and innovative programmes in national, campus-wide, and online contexts.  

Developing partnerships across the community  

• Developing relationships with organisations across the Jewish community.  

• Organise high quality, collaborative events, campaigns and projects, including developing both Refugee Shabbat and Refugee Week as key aspects of the communal calendar.  

• Bring together high-quality content for other Jewish community events and activities.  

• Build a network of skilled advocates for refugees and social cohesion.  

Administration and Evaluation  

• Work to develop a monitoring and evaluation framework for projects.  

• Provide regular reports for trustees and funders.  

• Work with HIAS+JCORE staff to secure funding for the project, such as through producing reports.  

Other Duties

We are looking for a strategic, impact-driven Community Programmes Manager – to lead the continued growth and development of our Community Engagement Programme and our Garden Programme in alignment with our recently launched 2030 strategy.

The Refugee & Migrant Services Caseworker will join the Refugee & Migrant Services Support Team, who work alongside our ESOL team and volunteers to meet clients’ needs as directed by the R&MS Team Leader.  The post is based at our offices in Bedford but will involve some local travel to deliver support and home appointments.  Our team deliver a number of services, including:

• Welcoming and providing holistic integration support to resettled refugee families, empowering them to live independently with less support as time goes on.
•  Providing vulnerable migrants with high quality information and advice, empowering them to make well-informed choices.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Building trust and maintaining positive working relationships with all clients, external agencies and other areas of KAP.
• Systematic recording of all notes and actions related to client support, maintaining up-to-date risk assessments and support plans using our case management system.
• Fulfilling funders’ & commissioners’ reporting requirements; generating statistics, case studies and keeping detailed records.
• Meeting resettled families at the airport and bringing them to their new homes.
• Ensuring clients understand their rights and responsibilities regarding their accommodation, supporting them to fulfil these.
• Supporting clients through advocacy to access; health & wellbeing services, welfare benefits, housing, immigration advice, community events, education, training, volunteering and paid work.
• Assisting resettled families’ children to access education and ensuring appropriate support is in place for them.
• Provide advice and support to resettled families through home appointments in Bedfordshire.
• Provide advice and support to clients both remotely and at in-person meetings

New Routes Integration

Since 2003 New Routes has been working with, and supporting, refugees, asylum seekers and isolated migrants in Norwich to support their wellbeing and ambitions by providing skill-building and social programmes in a safe and welcoming environment. We promote cross-cultural integration and community awareness, working with individuals and families from over 60 countries of origin. We work closely with an extensive network of partner organisations, both third-sector and statutory. New Routes is one-third of the Norwich Integration Partnership (NIP), alongside English+ and the Bridge Plus+.

Principle purpose of the post:

The Operations Manager will report to the Chief Executive Officer, working closely with them and deputising when required. They will lead and line manage the operational management of contractual service delivery (including the management of risk), quality and improvement across the organisation and ensure quality services are provided. This will be informed and implemented by ensuring that our participants have appropriate methods to inform programme delivery routinely. 

The Operations Manager will deliver: monitoring of service and organisational quality, financial/income activity and expenditure, adherence to policies and procedures, and overall compliance with health and safety activity through a range of measures, including the use of reports and data to make critical and informed assessments.

The Operations Manager will support the CEO in implementing and overseeing strategic fundraising efforts.

The Operations Manager will hold responsibility for ensuring all operational staff are effectively supported to undertake their roles and will administer formal HR policies and procedures when standards fall below expectations. They will also support the CEO in doing the same for non-operational staff.

The Operations Manager will provide support and deputise for the Chief Executive when required.  The postholder will be expected to demonstrate a high ability to be pro-active in anticipating and managing their workload, and work without high levels of direction.
