Job description

The Tutor Trust is a registered charity which aims to tackle educational inequality in a unique way.  Our mission is to 'transform lives through tutoring by making sure every child who needs some additional academic support can access a great tutor.  We recruit and train bright university students as tutors in the core subjects of Maths, English and Science and place them in state schools.

Job Purpose: Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To plan and deliver tuition to primary or secondary school aged pupils (from 11-16 years old) across either the Greater Manchester & Liverpool Regions at Tutor Trust in either Maths, English or Science in secondary school or Maths and English in primary, mainly on a 1:3 basis, with some potential instances of 1:2 and 1:1 tuition where required.
  • To complete appropriate paperwork relating to tuition with pupil (register, feedback sheets, etc.)
  • To liaise with Manchester or Liverpool Schools Coordinators and the Quality team at Tutor Trust.
  • To undergo any appropriate training throughout the role to enhance understanding of the appropriate teaching and curriculum.
  • To support other tutors as appropriate.
  • To be involved in Tutor Trust tutorials and training where required.

Person Specification – skills and attributes

  • One year of tutoring experience required or QTS.
  • Ability to tutor in either Maths, English or Science in secondary school or Maths and English in primary essential
  • Bright, enthusiastic and well-motivated tutor confident in dealing with young people
  • Robust and resilient character with excellent time-management skills
  • Must have achieved a minimum of Grade A/7 at GCSE in Maths and English
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the goals and ethos behind The Tutor Trust
  • Enthusiasm and ability to contribute to the successful development of The Tutor Trust
  • Understanding of the relevant subject National Curriculum syllabus and have a broad understanding of policy issues and educational best practice relating to improving pupil achievement at KS2, KS3 or KS4
  • The ability to work with children from complex backgrounds and with complex needs
  • The key Tutor Trust competencies of humility, respect and empathy, as well as a high levels of planning, organisation of problem solving
