Homelessness isn’t just about losing a home—it’s about losing stability, security, and often, hope. We are recruiting a Complex Needs Practitioner to support individuals experiencing rough sleeping across the Wirral. You will work as part of a small and dedicated team of outreach workers seeking out and supporting those in our community experiencing homelessness. Provide outreach support, working flexibly across community locations with a central hub based at our head office in Birkenhead.

HCPT is seeking a visionary and results-driven Strategic Director of Fundraising and Communications to lead the organisation’s income growth from £650,000 to over £2 million by October 2028. Overall Purpose of the Role

The Finance Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring that Emmaus Hertfordshire maintains accurate, timely and compliant financial information in support of its charitable and social enterprise activities.

You will work closely with the Operations & Finance Manager, Trustees, Chief Executive, staff, companions, and external partners to provide clear financial reporting, strong financial controls, and expert guidance that supports good decision-making across the organisation.

As a proactive member of the Management Team, you will also contribute to financial policy development and continuous improvement of systems and processes, working within the Emmaus values, ethos and principles.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Controls

• Maintain effective financial control over all revenue, expenditure, and cash handling across the community.
• Prepare spreadsheets for monthly payroll and pension contributions.
• Support the Finance Manager, Chief Executive and Treasurer in preparing, setting and creating the annual budget.
• Maintain companion rent accounts, Housing benefit and Gift Aid applications.
• Lead the year-end process and liaise with external auditors to ensure an efficient and compliant audit.

2. Financial Reporting

• Produce accurate and timely financial information, including providing information to support monthly management accounts and forecast reports.
• Support the preparation of financial reports for the Board, Committees and senior leadership as required.

3. Financial Analysis

• Undertake financial analysis of business development and new income-generation opportunities to help minimise financial risk.
• Provide analysis and insight to support decision-making across social enterprise operations and to maximise trading income.

4. Additional Duties

• Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic and business plans.
• Attend and actively participate in staff, companion, Trustee and Board meetings where required.
• Review internal controls and identify opportunities for improving financial processes.
• Develop procedure manuals and promote best practice within the finance function.
• Work flexibly as part of the leadership team to meet the wider needs of the charity.
• Undertake any other financial duties required by the Finance Manager and Chief Executive.

Key Tasks

Daily / Weekly

• Manage day-to-day accounting using QuickBooks. (Experience with Zero accounting software would be advantageous)
• Maintain accurate accounting records and financial ledgers.
• Reconcile financial accounts and manage spreadsheets.
• Oversee credit control.
• Administer online banking, cheque handling and payment processing.
• Process invoices, expense claims and payment requests.
• Verify financial calculations in QuickBooks.
• Carry out bank reconciliations and cash management.
• Manage petty cash.
• Manage Companion Allowances.
• Provide ad hoc reports and information to the Finance Manager and Chief Executive.

Monthly

• Prepare and submit salary calculator spreadsheet for Payroll and submit HMRC returns. Manage PAYE payments.
• Manage companion rent accounts and housing benefit records.
• Prepare VAT returns.
• Work with the external accountants to produce monthly P&L and balance sheet reports.
• Complete gift Aid submissions.
• Support our external accountants in preparing documentation for Month End accounts

Annually

• Support the preparation of annual statutory accounts.
• Liaise with external advisers on statutory financial information.
• Assist the Finance Manager, Chief Exec and Trustees with annual budget setting.

Essential Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial reporting, planning, budgeting, and analysis.
• Experience using QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
• Ability to work both independently and within a diverse team.
• Experience developing and implementing financial systems and processes.
• Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable Experience

• Experience in the voluntary/charity sector or in working with a Board of Trustees.

General Information

Emmaus St Albans operates its retail six days a week (Monday–Saturday). The Finance Co-Ordinators working hours will be agreed with the line manager, and flexibility is essential.

The School Library Association (SLA) supports approximately 2000 members working in schools across the UK with advice, training and advocacy. The School Library Lead will be at the forefront of our member offer and outreach, to help us deliver on our mission to support all those working in school libraries, so that more children and young people reach their full potential through the school library.   

This role will lead on providing advice, inspiration and support for schools looking to develop their school library provision and all the benefits this brings. An expert in school libraries, you will be comfortable supporting members 1:1, delivering training to larger audiences, providing consultancy to schools and sector organisations, writing training and resources, or preparing book recommendations. An exciting opportunity for someone experienced in school libraries with knowledge of the curriculum, teaching and learning and children’s books, you will be the first port of call for library advice and expertise, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the membership network.

You will be experienced in developing relationships with a variety of stakeholders at all levels relish a busy role. This will include supporting our Branch network, collaborating on initiatives for development, delivery and new projects as they come online. As resident children’s book expert, you will support with programmes and projects such as the SLA Information Book Award and member book-related events. You will work with your SLA colleagues to develop and deliver high-quality member events and training as well as advocacy events to raise awareness of the importance of school libraries. Using your sector insight, you will identify opportunities for development of initiatives that will support the SLA vision and mission enabling us to reach more children and young people through our work.  This is a busy and rewarding role and will suit someone with passion and resilience.

About the opportunity
We're in a fantastic position to have recently have partnered with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) for an evaluation of our programmes. 

We are now recruiting for a Programme Coordinator for our schools in Manchester.

• The Manchester Programme Coordinator oversees a caseload of up to seven partner schools. They manage the logistics and organisation of each school’s tutoring programme, working closely with the schools and pupils and managing the pool of volunteer tutors. They attend the weekly tutoring sessions at each school, as well as overseeing the quality of face to face and online tutoring, always working to deliver a great impact.
• The Manchester Programme Coordinator supports the recruitment of volunteer tutors, manages the tutor sign up process, develops relationships with schools including their Senior Leadership Team and subject teachers, collects data for monitoring and evaluation purposes, and works with other internal teams on business development opportunities.

Duties and responsibilities

• Responsible for the delivery of Action Tutoring’s tutoring programmes in partner schools, whether online or face to face. This includes working closely to manage all key stakeholders: schools, pupils and volunteer tutors; regularly attending weekly tutoring sessions; leading on reviewing and improving programme delivery, using data to reliably assess programme performance.
• Responsible for overseeing the quality of tutoring, engaging in quality assurance processes, and providing feedback to volunteer tutors to ensure effective and impactful delivery. Provide regular check-ins with tutors to ensure ample support and guidance is given to provide targeted tuition to pupils.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in partner schools, including members of the Senior Leadership Team and subject teachers. Maintain clear and timely communication with relevant school staff, offering regular check-ins with key school stakeholders, and contribute to impact reporting to schools. Supporting the Programme Manager with strategies to retain and sustain school partnerships.
• Update and accurately maintain Action Tutoring’s database, including collecting timely data for monitoring and evaluation purposes, such as attendance records, baseline and interim assessments and pupil surveys. Reporting regularly on key performance indicators to key stakeholders and using them to enhance programme delivery. Work with the Programme Manager on business development, approaching new schools that might be interested in working with Action Tutoring.
• Proactively report to the Programme Manager on the details of Action Tutoring’s operations in their partner schools.

As Neighbourhood - Senior Organiser at Pembroke House you will be someone who is highly skilled and experienced at bringing together diverse groups of people to take collective action on local issues.

You’ll have the ability to blend organising and community-building strategies, knowing that we can’t build power without building community and that community is often built through a common cause.

You’ll be excited to bring your organising and facilitation skills to our existing community programmes, including the Walworth Living Room - a new ‘third space’ for the community, as well as playing a crucial role in developing new partnerships and future areas of our work. 

If this job is done well, residents will be growing their skills and capacity to collaborate, groups will be building momentum, and beginning to take action to effect change in the neighbourhood. Pembroke House’s role and approach to supporting neighbourhood change will be further clarified, codified and evidenced. 

Person Specification

You’ll be an energetic person who thrives on making new connections and can inspire others to take action. As an experienced facilitator you will be confident facilitating groups and at ease with designing and adapting formal and informal training sessions appropriate to the context.

Your experience MUST include facilitating groups who don’t already hold a common and agreed set of values. So while academic or activist settings may form a significant part of your experience, it is essential to have worked in a mixed community or neighbourhood setting, where you regularly encountered and brought together a range of contrasting viewpoints, which included views substantially different to your own.

A knowledge of community organising methodology (see for example Act Build Change or Citizen’s UK) is useful, but there may also be other approaches or experiences that you could draw on for this role. You will be curious and keen to learn about the history of community organising and community development at Pembroke House, and keen to build on and contribute to the development of that work.

Pembroke House is a centre for social action and residential community in Walworth, South-East London.

We were founded in 1885, by students from Pembroke College, Cambridge, as one of the first settlement houses. Concerned about growing poverty and inequality, the pioneers of the settlement movement sought a new approach: taking up residence to live, work and solve problems alongside local communities. 

For 140 years, we’ve been working to bridge traditional divides and unite people – whatever their background or walk of life – in building a better Walworth.

We’re looking for an organised and person centred leader who can join our leadership team to support the quality, growth and sustainability of Stomping Grounds North East CIO.

The Deputy CEO will support the CEO by planning, overseeing, monitoring, reporting and taking appropriate action to deliver the service, business and financial strategies ofStomping Grounds North East CIO, with a focus on developing people, business and safeguarding and ensuring management capability across the organisation. Main responsibilities 

• To ensure projects and delivery adheres to the Company’s vision, mission and values. 

• To oversee the development and implementation of new projects and sessions to meet the Company’s aims and objectives. Specifically, to ensure that:

  • Appropriate risk assessments are undertaken and documented in line with Stomping Grounds Risk Assessment procedure

  • Appropriate communications to and involvement of communities, parents and schools are delivered effectively

  • High quality Forest School provision is delivered, in line with the Stomping Grounds NE vision

• To proactively manage the financial performance of projects and the business overall, including overseeing the planning and delivery of fundraising and donations

• To oversee, monitor and report on all aspects of business governance including health and safety, safeguarding and employee wellbeing.

• To work with line managers to develop their managerial capabilities and performance, with a focus on team development. As part of this, to ensure that:

  • Regular meetings of the team leaders are organised to share information on business performance, plans and issues and to create action plans as appropriate

  • Appropriate observations are conducted, documented and shared

  • PDRs are completed in line with company policy

  • To ensure training is up to date and relevant

  • To ensure that company policies are up to date and relevant and are reviewed as required

• To be proactive and maintain requirements for governing bodies, associations and memberships

About the Service

Children and young people who are looked after don’t always have a trusted adult that they can rely upon for support, with many young people not having someone that they can talk to or trust.

Our independent visitor service provides looked after children and young people with an adult volunteer who spends time with them, offering support and friendship whilst being a positive role model to enable young people to build on their confidence and self-esteem, whilst helping learn new skills and raise their aspirations.

The Vacancy

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic IV Coordinator, to work 28 hours per week who will be responsible for the day to day running of the independent visitor service.

You will be responsible for managing and developing a pool of volunteers which includes the recruitment, training, and induction of new volunteers to become volunteer independent visitors, before matching them with a young person who has been referred to the service.

You will provide continuous support to volunteers to ensure that the service is being delivered to a high standard, and that children and young people are safeguarded at all times.

You will also be responsible for monitoring volunteer visits, budgets and ensuring that risk assessments are undertaken as required, whilst acting as a link between NYAS and the local authority by liaising with social workers, carers and other professionals.
