Job description

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing specialised nursing care and support for young people aged 13–24 with cancer. Every day, seven young people in the UK hear the words “you have cancer”, and Teenage Cancer Trust ensures they do not face it alone. The charity funds specialist nurses and youth support teams in hospitals across the UK and provides vital emotional, practical and psychological support for young people and their families during and after treatment.

Teenage Cancer Trust is seeking a Relationship Manager (East Scotland) to grow community and corporate fundraising across the region. You’ll build lasting relationships with local businesses, community groups and individuals, strengthening existing support and securing new partnerships to grow income.

Reporting to the Senior Area Relationship Manager and working alongside the Senior Relationship Manager based in West Scotland, you’ll have the freedom to build your supporter network and shape fundraising across East Scotland. Working closely with frontline staff, volunteers and colleagues across the charity, you’ll bring people together to support young people with cancer.

This role offers plenty of variety and the freedom to manage your own work, with training and support to develop your skills in both community and corporate fundraising. You’ll be part of Teenage Cancer Trust’s regional and national teams, sharing ideas and have opportunities to be involved in projects beyond your own remit.

The role is home-based, covering East Scotland, with a preference for someone living in or near Edinburgh.

As Relationship Manager, you will:

  • Grow and retain community and corporate support across East Scotland
  • Build lasting relationships with local groups, businesses, volunteers and individuals
  • Support fundraising activities and events led by supporters
  • Find new supporters to grow future income
  • Work with frontline staff to show the impact of fundraising
  • Share opportunities with the wider Regional Fundraising team
  • Plan activity, track income and manage risks to meet targets
  • Represent Teenage Cancer Trust, build networks and raise awareness

Essential skills and experience

  • A good knowledge of the fundraising landscape and opportunities in the UK, with insight in the East Scotland region
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Clear communication and the ability to inspire support
  • Confidence working independently and making decisions
  • Ability to engage and support volunteers
  • Empathy and sensitivity when working with young people affected by cancer and their supporters
  • Access to a car for regional meetings, events and training

Desirable, but not essential

  • A background in community fundraising
  • Familiarity with hospice fundraising or charities supporting patients and families
  • Previous responsibility for a fundraising budget or income target
  • A track record of building and maintaining supporter relationships

This role could suit someone with community fundraising experience who is ready for their next move, including a Fundraising Assistant looking to step up. Corporate fundraising experience is not essential, as training and support can be provided. We’d also welcome applications from fundraisers in other disciplines who’d like to move into community and corporate fundraising.

Employee benefits include:

  • Leave: 25 days of annual leave, which increases with service, in addition to bank holidays and a 3 or 4 day closure over the Christmas period. We also have finish early Fridays in August and quarterly rest days to step away from day to day work and refocus.
  • Flexible bank holidays: the option to swap five UK public holidays (except 25th, 26th December, and 1st January or any substitute bank holidays for these dates) for other dates off.
  • Paid Carer and Compassionate Leave: paid time off to care for family members or dependants.
  • Paid Parental Leave: enhanced pay for parental leave such as maternity leave, paternity leave or adoption leave.
  • Paid Volunteering Leave: support your community by taking paid leave for volunteering activities.
  • Health Cashback Plan: access a health cashback plan to cover medical expenses.
  • Life assurance and Income Protection: financial support if you’re unable to work due to illness or injury.
  • Discount scheme: access exclusive savings at various high street retailers and gyms.
  • Flexible Working: we care about your wellbeing and encourage flexible work arrangements to promote work-life balance.
