Summary

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join our team. This role will play a pivotal role in ensuring the long term financial health and sustainability of St John’s Foundation and its trading subsidiaries.

What You’ll Do

About You
We’re looking for an experienced senior finance professional who combines technical expertise with strong leadership skills.
You will have:
· A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent).
· Proven significant experience in senior finance leadership, including management accounts, budgeting, and statutory reporting.
· Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards and charity finance (including restricted and endowment funds).
· Demonstrable strong knowledge of financial controls, accounting standards, and (ideally) charity finance.
· Proven experience managing or implementing finance systems or digital transformation projects.
· Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust across all levels.
· A collaborative, proactive, and improvement-focused approach.
Desirable:
· Experience within the not-for-profit or charity sector.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice helps babies, children and young people who are seriously unwell, and their families, make the most of every day. The charity aspires to become a centre of clinical excellence for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
We’ve been on a major upward trajectory in recent years, with more children being supported, more major hospitals being partnered with and more supporters donating. We’ve transformed from being an enthusiastic start-up delivering care in the community, to a serious player delivering major impact both in the community and at our state-of-the-art hospice building, The Ark, opened in 2019.
Philanthropy, which covers Grants, Trusts & Foundations and Major Donor fundraising streams, is pivotal to Noah’s Ark, typically accounting for around 50% of the charity’s voluntary income. This is an area of real expertise for Noah’s Ark, with much scope for further refining. The successful candidate will therefore enjoy opportunities to manage and add to an exciting portfolio and gain further training and support, working as part of a high-performing and super supportive team, ready for its next exciting growth phase.
The Philanthropy Officer will work closely with and report to the Grants, Trusts & Foundations Manager and Head of Philanthropy to develop the Trust and Major Donor pipelines, along with instrumental cross-team work on applications and reporting processes for other income streams. Whilst we work towards developing a more diverse funding model and navigate changes to the external Trust and HNWI environments, sustaining and growing income from both of these income steams will remain vital.
The post-holder will be key in taking the Trust and Major Donor programmes to the next level, securing new grants, building relationships, increasing multi-year gifts and improving both quality and volume of applications. They will also support the Grants, Trusts & Foundations Manager, and the wider team, to the same end with their respective portfolios.

The Public Affairs Manager reports to our Head of Policy and Advocacy and will be responsible for planning and delivering our public affairs activity. This includes:

parliamentary inquiry to parliamentary staff from the Health and Social Care Committee, drafting an MP briefing for an upcoming debate on the Government’ s obesity prevention priorities, reviewing next week’s parliamentary calendar to spot opportunities for engagement, attending a roundtable to share intelligence and discuss priorities for political party manifestos with other NGOs working on food issues, ringing round parliamentary offices to confirm attendance for
an upcoming parliamentary reception, meeting with an MP that is closely involved with The Food Foundation’s work to refine messaging for an upcoming campaign.
Your experience
You will have a strong knowledge of the UK political landscape and be comfortable and confident in engaging with stakeholders in Whitehall and in Parliament across the political spectrum. Ideally you would also have a knowledge of policy related to the food system, public health or the environmental crisis.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, supervise, and support a small team of play and youth workers and volunteers.

Programme Planning and Delivery
- Design, plan, and deliver a varied programme of play, creative, and youth activities for children and young people aged 0–18 years.

- Encourage children and young people to express themselves, build confidence, and develop positive relationships.
- Plan and oversee trips, events, and holiday programmes, ensuring safety and inclusivity at all times.
Safeguarding and Wellbeing
- To fulfill the statutory responsibilities of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people involved in Doorstep’s services.
- Ensure staff and volunteers follow safeguarding procedures and receive appropriate training.
- Respond appropriately to any concerns, working in partnership with relevant agencies where necessary.
Partnership and Family Engagement
- Build positive, trusting relationships with parents, carers, and families, encouraging their involvement in children’s play and learning.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals and partner organisations to enhance support for families.
- Represent Doorstep at relevant meetings, forums, and networks to share best practice and strengthen partnerships.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Administration
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and outcomes in line with organisational requirements.
- Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes to demonstrate impact and inform future development.
- Support funding applications and project reports by providing relevant data and case studies.
General Duties

About You
Experience and Knowledge
- Relevant qualification in playwork, youth work, early years, or a related field (Level 3 or above) or equivalent.
- Significant experience of planning, delivering, and evaluating play and youth activities for children and young people aged 0–18 years.
- Experience of supervising or managing staff and/or volunteers within a play, youth, or community setting.
- Strong understanding of child development and the role of play in supporting wellbeing, resilience, and growth.
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
- Experience of working with families facing disadvantage, housing instability, or other complex challenges.
- Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion, and commitment to anti-discriminatory practice.

This includes staffing the reception desk, accessing calendars, sending emails, and performing other basic administrative tasks to keep the front office running smoothly.

About the Role
You will lead and manage our CYP counselling, play therapy, and trauma-informed services, ensuring high-quality clinical delivery and strategic development. This role includes strategic development of CYP, clinical leadership of all delivery, supervision oversight, safeguarding responsibility, service improvement, and management of CYP budgets and reporting.
About You
You will bring:
- A counselling/psychotherapy qualification (accredited or equivalent experience).
- Significant post-qualification experience, including 600+ supervised hours.
- At least 3 years’ clinical work with children and young people affected by sexual violence.

We are seeking a Communications and Content Editor to support our communications output across multiple channels, including production of the SLA’s flagship publication, The School Librarian. This new role will be pivotal to elevating our publication, and supporting strong narratives across our communications.This is a hands on role, with an opportunity to help shape our communications and TSL as we approach the SLA’s ninetieth year in 2027.
You will be an experienced editor and content creator. Creative and with a strong eye for detail, you will be confident in overseeing the publications process, alongside copy-editing, proofing and commissioning content and associated administration. You will enjoy opportunities to apply your creative skills to creating interesting and engaging content to support our outputs. As we develop new ways of working, your insight and ideas will help support new activity. You will be comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders and happy to get stuck in as needed. Areas of work include managing production of The School Librarian journal which publishes three times per year, developing a strong understanding of the TSL audience, its circulation and readership figures to inform content development and identify opportunities to attract new subscribers. You will also contribute to digital communication and content strategy across the organisation, helping to determine the best platforms or channels for a variety of content types. While leading on TSL, you will also support content creation for our newsletters, website and social media, working with the Publicity and Partnerships Manager to determine the most appropriate format for different stories, features or news items.
The salary for this position is £24, 324.32 per anum (based on FTE £30,000) for 30 hours per week, and comes with a 6% employer pension contribution.
