Hope and May are currently seeking an experienced data protection professional to join our expanding team as a Data Protection Practitioner to support our growing client base. As a member of our team, you will be responsible to provide data protection support to your portfolio of voluntary organisations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conduct Data Protection Consultation: Provide expert guidance and consultation on data protection laws, regulations, and best practices to charities seeking to handle sensitive information responsibly.

2. Policy Framework Development: Create comprehensive data protection policies, procedures, and guidelines tailored to the specific needs and activities of each charity.

3. Compliance: Ensure that the charities comply with relevant data protection laws, such as the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. Keep abreast of changing data protection laws and regulations and ensure that the charities remain in compliance with any new requirements.

4. Training and Awareness: Conduct data protection training sessions for charity staff and volunteers to promote a culture of data privacy awareness.

5. Data Subject Rights: Facilitate data subjects' rights requests, such as access, rectification, erasure, and objection, in accordance with applicable laws.

6. Data Governance: Develop and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure appropriate data handling, storage, and disposal practices.

7. Record of Activities and Processing: Draft inventories of data processing activities and map the flow of data within the charities to identify potential privacy risks.

8. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on data protection initiatives, compliance status, and potential risks.

10. Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs): draft and review DPIAs for high-risk data processing activities and provide recommendations to minimize privacy risks.

11. Ethical Considerations: Address ethical implications related to data collection, storage, and use, especially when dealing with sensitive data or vulnerable populations.

12. Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, such as legal teams, IT departments, authorities and external consultants, to ensure a coordinated approach to data protection for your clients.

13. Data Breach Management: Provide expert guidance and support to charities in the event of a data breach, including coordination with relevant authorities and stakeholders for a timely and effective response, including containment, mitigation, notification, and recovery strategies.

Requirements

Essential Experience and Knowledge

• Experience working for charitable organisations in a position relevant to the role (e.g. Governance, Data Protection Lead, Team Manager, Research and Impact Manager or similar)
• Knowledge in Data Protection legislation (e.g. UK GDPR, PECR, DPA 2018) and its practical application to the work of charitable organisations.
• Consultation: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively consult with and advise clients from senior management level to general staff.
• Delivery: Proven initiative and experience in consistently delivering high-quality work within specified deadlines.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills. Must be able to articulate complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner both verbally and in writing.
• Policy Development: Proven experience in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Document drafting and review: Proficiency in conducting comprehensive document reviews and in developing templates and resources for colleagues and clients.
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities to assess risks and propose solutions.
• IT skills: High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent adaptability to different software tools.

Planning Reviewing and Organising

• Overseeing the day-to-day BVSC administrative processes which include booking rooms, diary management, receiving phone calls, managing a general email inbox, updating our website and database, helping problem solve if occasional IT issues occur.
• Processing and recording Community Lottery applications.
• Team members are responsible for their own administration; however you will provide admin support to the organisation eg booking training courses, managing room bookings, offering support to staff that are facilitating Teams meetings/training events.
• Maintaining levels of stationery and office supplies as appropriate.
• Ensure all electronic and paper record systems which contain sensitive or person identifiable records are stored in compliance with the Data Protection Action and our Information Governance standards.
• To actively plan, support, and administer BVSC’s networks, internal and  public meetings – taking minutes when required.
• To review current electronic filing systems, keeping folders organised, up to date and using archive appropriately.
• To be a key member of the communications team that manage the BVSC Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts keeping them current and relevant by scheduling content created by the team.

Communication

• Respond to general enquiries, answer the BVSC phone and being the first point of contact in the office, ensure delegation of this responsibility in your absence

• The post holder will help produce regular impact reports for senior staff

PCA is a national charity, dedicated to saving lives through early diagnosis. This new post has a pivotal role to play in developing and implementing PR and communications strategies that will raise awareness and support the generation of income across the UK.  

You need to be able to generate emotive and persuasive copy, and have the ability to engage journalists and produce a variety of content for both print and digital communications channels. You will also manage the UK Press Office and proactively place a variety of stories and expert speakers to raise the profile of PCA across local, regional and national media.

Main responsibilities

Press and PR:  

• Manage the UK Press Office and deliver a timely, accurate and professional response to media enquiries.
• Generate creative and headline-grabbing content for news stories and features. 
• Pitching of stories, feature ideas and expert speakers to increase our media presence.
• Production of press releases, feature articles and other resources.
• Produce and distribute effective support materials, such as Q&As, media briefings, comments and lines to take when needed.
• Be aware of the national news agenda identifying opportunities and bringing issues to the attention of the Head of Marketing and Communications as appropriate.
• Maintain awareness and knowledge of initiatives across PCA and other organisations that can add value to delivering the Charity’s objectives.

Communications:

• Develop and implement communications strategies and plans to support and maximise impact across all PCA activities.

 Case Studies and Patient Stories:

Content Creation:

• Develop creative and engaging content for a wide variety of audiences to ensure each piece achieves objectives.

What the job involves

As Communications Planning Manager you’ll be reviewing all incoming internal communications briefs, ensuring they have clear objectives, audiences, and timelines, and are aligned to organisational priorities and goals. You’ll be responsible for leading as well as updating, when necessary, our briefing and communications team process.

You’ll be responsible for workflows across the communications directorate, having oversight of capacity, prioritising and scheduling work accordingly. You’ll support annual business and resource planning; helping the organisation prioritise and understand the potential impact vs effort in business decisions.

To ensure our teams can work at their optimum we’re currently updating our approach to communications processes, including updating our project management tools, prioritisation structure and our wider programme management office.

What we want from you

To be successful in the role you’ll need to have exceptional organisational skills and be a strategic thinker who thrives on implementing and driving new processes to deliver efficiency.

You’ll have demonstrable experience with stakeholder and relationship management – building rapport at all levels, managing conflicting priorities and ensuring effective use of resources. In reviewing briefs you’ll be comfortable in challenging the details provided and developing briefs with product owners to ensure resources are being used effectively.

A background in marketing communications or similar would be ideal for understanding the needs from the start in developing effective campaigns. Experience in using workflow tools (like Trello) or Agile methodologies will be desirable but not essential.

About the Team: The Director of Operations will play an integral leadership role in the Resilient Water Accelerator team. They will lead work to establish and deliver processes, governance, funding and operations for the Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA), and to oversee its development from a start-up being incubated within WaterAid to an independent, high-performing organisation. They will report directly into the RWA's CEO, shaping and delivering the future RWA as we evolve and grow to become an established, independent, successful organisation.

About the Role:
As our Director of Operations you will play an integral role in shaping and building this new initiative, creating its governance and processes, supporting its transition from start-up to implementation and in putting it on the path to independence. The RWA currently has 11 staff, based in 6 countries, and we have plans to build the team to around 18-20 over the next couple of years, to extend our delivery from 2 countries (currently Nigeria and Bangladesh) to 6, and to secure additional financing to complement the investment we have secured from the UK Government.

This is an exciting time to join the RWA as we move from our early inception phase to implementation and delivery. We are looking for someone who wants to help us shape and build the RWA in this next phase of work. In this role, you will create and lead the business operations for the team, making sure the RWA is able to deliver its full potential.

The role will include the following responsibilities:

• Business planning: lead work on annual business planning and the development of a 5 year plan, bringing in others in the team and externally to support this work and ensure buy-in. The plan will need to show how the RWA is delivering on funders' objectives as well as demonstrating how the RWA will work with new partners and expand and consolidate its operations, funding and impacts.
• Financial oversight: manage financial activities to ensure the strong performance of the RWA, including regular financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting. The Director will manage the organisation's grant awards, reporting, accounts/audits and contracts with partner organisations, including procurement. They will support the CEO and others on fundraising, and will advise teams (including those in country) on budget availability to inform activities. They will need to work with WaterAid teams on all of these areas, and ensure compliance with WaterAid policies.
• Transition to independence: work with the CEO on plans for the RWA's independence from WaterAid, setting out and analysing options and making recommendations on structure, policies, governance, financing and timing, and overseeing the smooth transition from incubation within WaterAid to RWA being an independent not-for-profit organisation. The Director will need to consider legal, financial, governance, reputational, HR and other elements, seeking relevant external advice to ensure that the transition works for both the RWA and WaterAid. They will also advise on the creation of a Board and Advisory panel, and other relevant structures and relationships.
• Programme and project management: build out programme and project management for the RWA at both a global and country level, including internal reporting, updates and management of team's resources, and risks. Provide frameworks for effective decision-making and information management - including stakeholder databases; monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL); and knowledge management.
• Operational delivery: the Director will oversee the day-to-day internal operational activity of the RWA, and will need to deputise for the CEO in internal and external meetings. This will include shaping engagement with the current Steering Committee, setting team meeting agendas and preparing papers; overseeing recruitment; ensuring reporting to partners is delivered to time and quality; keeping track of contracts; overseeing due diligence; and working with Legal teams on core documentation such as contracts, NDAs and MOUs.

About You:

• At least 10 years' experience of designing and implementing appropriate organisational and operational governance structures, ideally including some time working for a small organisation, start-up or not-for-profit.
• Financial literacy, with experience of financial management in an organisation, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
• Strong relationship management skills with a range of NGO, government and private sector partners.
• Experience of working with geographically dispersed teams.
• An organised and structured approach to work, managing deadlines and competing priorities.
• Strong communications skills with experience of preparing and presenting clear and timely information to internal and external stakeholders, and of assessing options and making recommendations.
• Able to work on own initiative, providing proactive advice and recommendations; comfortable operating with a degree of uncertainty and change.
• Ideally experience of setting up a new organisation, creating fit-for-purpose policies and helping teams to operate these.
• Ideally an interest and/or experience in development, sustainability and climate change.

As the Institute’s Fundraising Manager you will play a pivotal role in securing the financial resources necessary to support the Institute’s strategic initiatives and operations, as well as maintaining the relationships and communities that drive long term funding. Working closely with the Institute’s Executive Leadership and board, you will be responsible for executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy from mixed funding sources – government, philanthropic and corporate - engaging with funders, and building lasting relationships with stakeholders to maximise funding opportunities.

Alongside being active in direct engagement with funders, you will lead on the underlying processes and systems that drive successful fundraising, creating and maintaining rigorous process management, record-keeping and CRM use, funder research and meeting preparation, and supporting the senior team in creating relationships that last. You will work to make the best of the Institute’s varied and committed networks and ensure that the communities around the Institute are engaged in our work, and excited to contribute. 

Harnessing the Institute’s powerful networks across mainstream financial services impact investing, social investment, philanthropy and government you will be a key figure in securing the resourcing that underpins a dynamic new chapter of the Institute’s five-year strategy.

Key responsibilities & skills development opportunities: 

Fundraising Strategy and Implementation 

• Implement a robust fundraising strategy aligned with the Institute's mission and goals.

• Create and manage annual fundraising plans with clear targets and KPIs. 

• Identify and outreach to potential funding sources, including foundations, corporations and government. 

• Enable and support senior leadership, board and wider team to engage with potential funders, setting them up for success. 

Donor Engagement and Relationship Management

Proposal Development and Grant Management

• Monitor and report on the progress of grants, working with project managers and leadership to ensure grant deliverables are achieved on time 

Collaboration and Team Leadership 

• Work closely with the Executive Director, and team members across the organisation to align fundraising efforts with strategic and programmatic priorities. 

• Coordinate with the communications and events team to develop engaging materials and events to support fundraising efforts. 

• Be supportive of creating a collaborative and inclusive working environment, supporting key Institute-wide commitments on DEI. 

Data Management and Reporting 

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of fundraising activities, donor interactions, and financial contributions. 

• Prepare detailed reports on fundraising performance, donor engagement, and financial targets. 

• Maintain CRM systems to be up to date, and utilize systems to manage donor information and track fundraising metrics. 

• Ensure that the Institute complies with laws, regulations and best practice relating to fundraising including, but not limited to, those specified by the Fundraising Regulator in its Code of Conduct and GDPR. 

Essential Qualifications and Experience: 

• Proven experience in fundraising preferably within the non-profit sector. 

• Interest and enthusiasm for the impact investing sector. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive proposals and presentations. 

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Working Arrangements and Travel Requirements

Rainforest Trust UK staff work remotely and you will be expected to work primarily from home with an excellent internet connection. You may be based anywhere in the UK but you will be expected to work from a shared team space in London once a month, and your donor meetings/events are most likely to take place there.

The postholder will be required to host networking events and attend some online meetings with our partners in the U.S so some (early) evening working is required. We are also flexible as to how many hours this postholder works, and will consider a 3-5 day per week arrangement, depending on experience.

The role reports into the Senior Individual Manager (Retention) and is responsible for the developing integrated stewardship journeys across committed giving products.

About the Team

The Committed Giving Team is a high achieving team responsible for the acquisition and retention of regular donors. The team work across 3 key areas; Non-dialogue Acquisition, Direct Dialogue Acquisition (Face to Face channels), Stewardship,. The team work closely together with the shared aim of delivering exceptional supporter experience and raising the reliable income the hospital needs to help provide extraordinary care for seriously ill children and their families.

About You

You will be a creative, self-motivated, and organised project manager with experience of working within a diverse, target-driven team. With a keen eye for detail and able to manage multiple projects at once, you will have a direct marketing background, ideally within the charity sector.

The ideal candidate will also have:

• Highly organised and able to work autonomously with little supervision
• Experience of regular giving programmes (ideally both cash direct debit and weekly lottery products)
• Experience in writing campaign briefs (creative, data)
