Role Purpose 

The Head of Research, Policy and Insights will join the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) alongside the Head of Operations, Head of Programmes and Engagement and Head of Marketing and Communications. This role is pivotal in guiding OKRE’s strategic direction, leveraging research to inform programme and policy development, and advocacy efforts.

You will lead the expansion and application of OKRE’s distinctive research activities (see Playing with Videogame Culture, and Entertainment Industries Taskforce), developing and delivering an ambitious programme of work that helps transform understanding of entertainment media, its impacts, and the ways different communities work with it. 

A key focus will be development of an “Entertainment Impact Index”, a key recommendation from OKRE’s report ‘Delivering social impact in entertainment content – priorities, approaches & challenges.’ This new framework will complement existing impact measurements, supporting cross-sector collaboration and shared learning. 

Engaging with trends in entertainment, including technological developments such as AI and machine learning, and approaches to charity and social impact, your role will involve identifying challenges and opportunities. You’ll develop strategies to measure and assess the impact of OKRE’s work, ensuring data informs both annual planning and growth opportunities. 

Key Responsibilities:    

Leadership and Strategy  

• Work with fellow SLT members to develop and implement organisational strategies that embed a research and insights-led culture within the charity. 
• Craft and execute strategies for OKRE’s research and policy work, broadening the organisation’s reach and impact.
• Lead OKRE’s work with research consultants and work with other senior team members to develop and support colleagues across our staff and associate team working on insights and policy activities.
• Keep abreast of developments in entertainment and media (including tv, film, video games, creator content) as well as social impact, behaviour change and narrative change sectors, to support the dissemination and use of that knowledge across the organisation and beyond.

Programme design and delivery  

• Lead on the development and delivery of a high impact programme of research and policy projects, spearheading major initiatives, such as the Entertainment Impact Index, and running regular convenings with key industry figures to develop actionable tools. 
• Manage research materials, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide quality assurance on research, data and insight-related work in service of the charity’s goals and objectives. 
• Provide insights to the wider OKRE team on key sector trends and opportunities relevant to programmes such as the OKRE Summit and OKRE Fund. 
• Evolve evaluation strategies and provide practical support to team members to assess OKRE’s work, understanding what difference the charity has made, and synthesise learning to inform future activity. 

Communication and Impact: 

• Commission research through internal panels or external agencies and produce tailored briefings and reports. 
• Turn research findings into sharp insights, impactful policy narratives, guides, tools, and training resources for the sectors we work with. 
• Represent the organisation at industry events, advocating on policy matters and advancing the organisation’s thought leadership.

Stakeholder Management 

• Seek out, build and maintain strong relationships with key organisations, funders and partners working in entertainment, charity, research and policy fields.
• Be a passionate advocate for and support the whole team to adopt an insights and evidence-based approach to their work. 
• Define and advance a clear learning agenda based on the needs of key stakeholders in the business. 

Skills & Experience 

• Proven experience in strategic planning and delivery within research and policy environments. 
• Demonstrable success in identifying emerging policy opportunities and applying research-led approaches to boosting organisational influence. 
• Senior level experience managing research and policy portfolios, with budget accountability in commercial or charity sectors. 
• Expertise in deploying quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, tools, with a track record in informed policy advocacy. 
• Proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for a range of stakeholders. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

The Opportunity

The Manager role works across ImpactEd Evaluation. Our partners encompass education organisations such as charities, edtech organisations and government, and schools and multi-academy Trusts. We aim to deliver high-quality research and evaluation projects that help our partners make better decisions to benefit young people.

You will act as a consultant on a range of different partnerships to help partners develop their evaluation strategy and approach. For example, you could deliver independent evaluations for organisations like the Careers and Enterprise Company, Nesta or multi-academy Trusts such as Lift Schools. You will also have opportunities to contribute to development of team strategy and learning and development resources.

As a manager you will act as a project lead, delivering high-quality research projects at scale, and support the creation of specific deliverables for projects led by others. This covers the end to end of research design and delivery, including the creation of Theories of Change and evaluation frameworks, data collection and analysis, and impact reporting to help our partners learn about the effectiveness of their programmes. At manager level you will have the opportunity to take on larger-scope partnerships supported by a project sponsor at senior manager level or above.

We are open to a range of backgrounds, but would expect prior experience of research and evaluation delivery and partnership management. In this role, you'll lead the cultivation and stewardship of a portfolio of donors capable of making £1 million+ gifts. With a particular focus on advancing research into children's and young people's cancers, your work will have both national and international reach - and a lasting impact.

What will I be doing?

• Work in partnership with the Associate Director of Philanthropy to spearhead a new philanthropic initiative to raise seven and eight figure gifts for children and young people's cancer research.

• Manage a portfolio of prospects with a primary focus on qualifying prospects and developing the engagement and stewardship of prospects through the full life cycle of giving and renewal. Ensure consistent pipeline movement and contribution of prospects both through their giving as well as helping to build CRUK's donor pipeline.

• Achieve agreed fundraising income and prospect cultivation targets and provide regular reporting and metrics against goals.

• Lead the development of the Wealth Advisors and Intermediaries strategy and engagement plan working in partnership with CRUK stakeholders.

• Partner with the CRUK Leadership, Chairman, Trustees, as well as scientists, Philanthropy colleagues to develop and implement strategies for gifts of £1M+; help the development and supporting the management of volunteer leaders committed to advancing CRUK philanthropy; guide discussions with senior leadership on prospect strategy;

• Own, develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; including academics and researchers, institutional leaders, volunteer leaders, and writing briefings and coordinating engagement that will lead to gifts;

• Work closely with internal colleagues to coordinate engagement with CRUK funded scientists and leadership develop proposals and propositions.

About the opportunity

This is an exciting time to join the Audience Insight team, part of the Brand and Communications function within the Income and Engagement directorate. The scope of our work is wide-ranging. We lead on market research projects across the Society, supporting not just Income and Engagement, but also Research, Influencing, and Services. The Opportunity

The EdTech Evidence Lead will play a key role in delivering one of our key projects, focusing on EdTech Evidence. Drawing on their experience and knowledge of EdTech, they will support EdTech companies and educators to build understanding about gathering and evaluating evidence for different EdTech products. They will develop guidance and materials to facilitate this, and work with internal colleagues and external stakeholders to develop resources, systems and processes that aim to promote and recognise ‘high-quality’ evidence around EdTech. 

Main responsibilities include:

• Developing tools and resources to support individuals and organisations to engage with, and in, gathering and evaluating evidence around EdTech
• Developing guidance and training which helps EdTech companies plan and carry out evidence-gathering activities for their products and prepares them to submit evidence for formal review
• Contributing to the development and delivery of processes and systems for formally reviewing EdTech evidence
• Build relationships with EdTech companies and other key stakeholders to understand their use of evidence relating to EdTech and engage them with the project
• Liaising with a range of stakeholders to promote the use of EdTech evidence and seek input into the design and development of key project deliverables
• Representing the project externally to promote engagement with both the project, and with EdTech evidence generally
• Leading on the delivery of key project deliverables and monitoring progress towards these.

Additionally:

• Attending and participate in CPD learning activities and training to maintain and develop your knowledge and skills

In this role, you will be part of a research centre, working with budget holders and research leads to provide an effective and efficient financial service. The Person

We are looking for an ACA/CA/ACCA/CIMA qualified accountant with experience in business partnering, financial project management, and setting budgets and forecasts. The Role:

The Office Manager and HR Admin will be responsible for overseeing onboarding, health & Safety and human resources functions pertaining to all employees. The role holder will also be responsible for maintaining the office space, administration and any related governance. This role will provide administration support to the Board of Trustees and act as Company Secretary to the Trust. 

Responsibilities:

Office:

• Develop and implement office policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations and compliance with company standards.       
• Ensure the office space meets all Health & Safety regulations, including correct up-to-date H&S information made available to staff via noticeboard or similar.
• Owns and maintains positive and productive relationships with property management and third-party vendors and is point of contact for the building management team in case of any issues and for building information sharing.
• Perform other administrative or office-related duties as required to support the effective running of the organisation.

Health & Safety:

•  To assume the role of the Health & Safety Officer.
•  Responsible for all Health and Safety matters, ensuring that up-to-date legal requirements are met and put in place to ensure the Charity meets the criteria for the yearly Health & Safety assessment.
•  Liaise with building management, contractors, and suppliers and escalate any risks or issues as appropriate.
•  Provide up to date information and documentation to the team confirming First Aiders and Fire Wardens, ensuring this information is kept up-to-date on SharePoint, in the office and relevant documentation
•  Attend training regularly as necessary in keeping with any new legislation.

Human Resources:

• Assist with the recruitment process, including posting job openings, scheduling interviews, and coordinating candidate communication.
• Create and maintain employee HR accounts.
• Onboard and offboard employees adhering to correct processes & procedures, ensuring payroll and benefits information is shared with respective external companies.
• Responsible for sharing all updates relating to new employee training and employment law updates.
• Responsible for ensuring correct relevant policies are in place and filed away correctly.
• Working alongside the legal team to instigate and resolve any employment disputes.
• Responsible for the Charities' insurance renewals & cost reviews, ensuring adequate cover is always in place.
• Keeping up-to-date with employee benefits, reviewing the team’s needs and providing a plan of any recommendations.
• Managing the in-house learning portal and ensuring all employees training is up to date and relevant.

Company Secretarial:

• Administrator to the Board of Trustees.
• Field and action all incoming emails relating to the Charity Commission and Companies House.
• Provide support to ensure all submissions are made ahead of deadlines and recording of tasks in the allocated SharePoint areas.
• Coordinate and schedule all Trustee meetings ensuring all documents are returned ahead of deadlines.

Skill set requirements:

• Proven experience as an Office Manager or similar senior administrative role.
• Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) SharePoint and other relevant software applications.

What you’ll do

Working alongside two other researchers, you will assess banks’ positions on climate change and other sustainability themes. This involves collecting information from banks’ disclosures and external databases, analysing quantitative and qualitative data, and translating insights into actionable steps for banks and investors engaging with banks, among other stakeholders. You will have many opportunities to challenge banks and shape sustainability standards for the banking sector by contributing to:

• Investor briefings and short research notes reviewing climate commitments made by individual banks.
• Banking sector benchmark, ranking European banks on their approach to climate change and other sustainability themes.
• Thematic reports and internal position papers reviewing how the European banking sector aims to address specific issues and/or the relevant standards banks rely on.

Job Purpose

We are looking for a Marine Scientist to play a substantive role to support all of Oceana’s UK campaigns. Research, science and data are at the heart of Oceana’s UK work, underpinning our policy positions, creating campaign moments and answering key questions with new research.

The successful candidate will write and project manage research to unlock key campaign questions relating to overfishing, habitat protection and energy in particular, as well as other potential campaign areas in future. They will also work to increase Oceana’s presence within the academic community, attending relevant conferences and meetings and seeking future collaborations on topics of interest.

The Scientist will report to and be supported by the Director of Policy and Research, and work closely with science colleagues across the Oceana global network and beyond. Eligible candidates should have some experience in conducting research, including analysing data, but we’re equally looking for passion, motivation and a drive to protect the ocean. You should be a self-starter, with a strong ability to work independently and as part of a small but growing team.

Role Overview

• Support the delivery of Oceana’s campaigns, working with the Director of Policy and Research and relevant campaign teams.
• Research, draft and/or review content for Oceana’s scientific reports and other external communications, with particular attention to scientific accuracy.
• Gather evidence to support Oceana’s UK campaigns, including analysing primary and secondary data, conducting literature reviews and creating position papers.
• Commission and project manage research from external partners as needed, managing relationships through the duration of any projects.
• Work closely with the Oceana HQ Science and Strategy team and other scientist colleagues in the Oceana network to gather insights, inspiration and knowledge.

Candidate Requirements

Education and work experience

• Degree, ideally masters-level, in environmental, fisheries or marine science, or a related field.
• Familiarity with marine and climate issues, regulations and policies in the UK, as well as with key institutions and decision-making processes.
• Experience writing or commissioning primary or secondary research and associated materials summarising the work.
• A passion for UK seas and delivering a healthy ocean in general.

Skills and knowledge

• Familiarity with UK marine and fisheries policy and science.
• GIS and database proficiency, including basic knowledge of GIS mapping and statistical analysis.

ShareAction’s Financial Sector Research team works towards holding financial institutions accountable for their impact on globally important challenges such as tackling climate change, upholding human rights and reversing biodiversity loss.

Asset managers, insurance companies and banks hold a huge amount of influence over the world’s largest companies through their investment, lending and underwriting activities. While many of these financial institutions publicly claim to be taking environmental and social issues seriously, often, these claims do not hold up to scrutiny.

In this role, you will have many opportunities to challenge the financial sector by contributing to:

• Our financial sector benchmarks. In the first 12 months, you would primarily be working on our 2026 benchmark of some of the world’s largest insurance companies (following our 2024 report). Our research also covers asset managers and banks.
• Coordination with civil society allies and developing new collaborations with leading global NGOs.
• Engagement with financial institutions, regulators, and industry bodies to provide detailed recommendations for improvement.
• Communication of our research findings externally, for example, on webinars.

Working alongside the rest of the Financial Sector Research team, you will contribute to ShareAction’s key reports ranking financial institutions.
