Age UK Croydon have an established befriending service providing one-to-one befriending for older people in their home. We are now launching a new and exciting Gift of Friendship (GoF) Programme to run alongside this existing face to face and telephone befriending service.

The GoF programme will offer a new additional person-centred companionship service where volunteers and older people are matched to reduce loneliness and isolation together.  The service is person centred and dependent on the goals of the individual which could include, going for a walk, going shopping, attending activities or helping an older person to build or regain confidence in going out and about and developing more social connections. 

We are looking for excellent people skills, a strong initiative, and effective communications, including an ability to build relationships with clients and volunteers, and undertake matching in an astute and sensitive manner. You will also need excellent administration skills with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

Operation Christmas Child UK (OCC) has implemented a strategic volunteer ministry, investing in teams of volunteers who will multiply themselves and hugely extend the reach of OCC’s mission.

OCC is the world’s largest shoebox appeal where Samaritan’s Purse, together with local churches here and overseas, distributes from the UK 1/4 million gift-filled shoeboxes annually to children in need overseas and in so doing demonstrates God’s love in a tangible way while sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.

A resourceful and energetic Regional Manager is needed to recruit, select, equip, and lead teams of volunteers throughout the 32 London boroughs.

You will be passionate about developing others towards highly effective ministry, teamwork and increased personal competency.

You will also directly engage churches to participate in OCC in areas not yet covered by Connect volunteers. A special opportunity will be engaging London churches that have partnered with our sister ministry, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association for the June 2025 God Loves You Tour London.

You will be confident to take initiative with people and projects and also have good administrative and organisational skills. You will also enjoy envisioning the numerous volunteers who participate in the OCC shoebox appeal each year.

You will enthusiastically support the Christian purposes of OCC and Samaritan’s Purse and be committed to the value of well-equipped volunteers and to developing them further. Candidates will have proven people and project management and administrative experience in the workplace and be educated to A levels or ideally Degree level.

This role is based in region, and so prospective candidates should currently live in the region and provide their own transport for which defined expenses will be paid.

Involving people affected by sarcoma

• Strengthen and support our existing Involvement Network, keeping members engaged and informed.

Immediate Support Coordinator (Somerset and Devon)

Reports to: Bereavement Services Manager for England

Salary: Starting at £26,500 per annum

Location: Home working with regular travel throughout the area

Context of Role

Our client supports anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under. They provide immediate casework support, as well as ongoing services including counselling, complementary therapies, play therapy, coffee mornings, support events and a respite cottage.

As they continue to expand their services across England the successful candidate will play a central role in the ongoing development of their relationships with stakeholders. Initiative and drive play an integral part of ensuring their professional stakeholders remain engaged and champion their service to those they support. The post holder will provide immediate and ongoing emotional and practical support to families, friends, witnesses and professionals affected by the sudden death of a child or young adult.

Main Duties include:

• To initiate immediate support for a caseload of families whose children and young people aged 0-25 have died suddenly and unexpectedly across the county you reside in and bordering counties.
• Complete an initial assessment of families' needs to identify and plan the support as required in line with safeguarding and risk reduction.
• Offer emotional support and advice to a case load of families through home visits and ongoing weekly telephone calls.
• To liaise with the Counselling Support and Outreach Coordinator, who is responsible for organising formal support such as counselling, complementary therapy or play therapy, subject to consent from the bereaved individual.
• To work with hospital staff, GP’s, police officers, coroner offices, mental health teams and other healthcare professionals to raise awareness of and promote referrals into the charity from the county you reside in and bordering counties.
• To deliver awareness training in hospitals and other healthcare settings, schools and workplaces on the use of the bereavement boxes, the services they offer, how to refer into the charity and bereavement awareness.
• To ensure families have been offered a memory box and coordinate these when required.
• Facilitate debriefs within professional settings following a traumatic or sudden death of a child or young person.
• To work with hospital trusts to establish and maintain the upkeep of suitable bereavement suites for bereaved individuals to use as required.

Experience:

• Experience of working in a health, social care or emergency setting.
• Experience of working with people in distress.
• Experience of working with vulnerable people, including families and/or children.
• Experience of managing a high case load with varying needs.
• Working within a multi-agency and legislative framework.

Knowledge:

• Have a good understanding of bereavement and the effects of grief on bereaved individuals and their families.
• Have a good understanding of child and adult protection issues and how to respond to safeguard effectively.

Ascension Community Trust (ACT) is a much-loved community-based charity in Custom
House, Newham. We deliver Newham District Foodbank (a Trussell foodbank run by ACT
and two community partners), welfare benefits advice, immigration advice, ESOL classes,
work with adults with learning difficulties, as well as work with children, young people and
their families.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, and their experience includes working with
corporate companies, students, school children, people with lived experience of poverty,
refugees, asylum seekers, and adults with learning difficulties. Our mission statement –
“Enabling the whole community to make the community whole” – means that we work with
all members of our community and promote integration.

We are looking for someone with good interpersonal skills, who can welcome and listen to
prospective volunteers to find out their interests, skills and goals and match them with the

You will work two days a week with Newham District Foodbank strategic partners to mobilise
volunteers across our three delivery sites, and one day a week to support volunteer
involvement across the rest of ACT. You will need to be able to think outside the box to spot
opportunities – across all our projects – to invite volunteers to join in with our mission,

The focus of this role will be delivery of administrative support to the fundraising team. You will be the first point of contact for new individual supporters and play a key role in our stewardship and engagement plans. You will be involved in gathering feedback and experiences from our visitors so that we can show our impact. You will have an important role to make sure our database, record keeping and financial systems are accurate and fully up to date. You will assist the Fundraising Manager to generate financial and impact reports for use internally and externally. The post holder’s key tasks will be as follows:

Key responsibilities:

Supporter care and communication (30%)

·Act as the first point of contact for fundraising enquiries, including in person visits, ensuring a positive, personalised and friendly approach.

·Proactively and reactively communicate with new and existing supporters to thank and steward, in line with our established stewardship plans and practices. This will be via phone, email, letter, social media and in person.

·In collaboration with the Fundraising Manager produce materials and resources to support our stewardship of donors and supporters. This will include preparation of newsletters, social media content, marketing/fundraising materials and helping to plan and deliver supporter and participation events.

·Assist with systematic gathering and presentation of visitor feedback from a range of stakeholders including participants, group leaders, parents and teachers. This will be through face-to-face conversations, online events, surveys and through collating evidence gathered routinely by teams at Bendrigg.

Financial administration (25%)

·Working with the Finance Manager and Fundraising Manager, accurately process, record and reconcile donations received from a variety of sources.

·Log donations using a combination of manual data entry, automated imports, and third-party integrations with our fundraising database.

·Confidently run internal reports to generate statistics and impact measurements for use in our accounting and grant reports.

·Manage the charity’s Gift Aid submissions in line with HMRC guidance.

Database support (20%)

·Record supporters, donations, activities and communications accurately on the fundraising database.

·Ensure the database is fully up-to-date and complies with data protection regulations including GDPR.

·Export fundraising data and generate reports for the fundraising team.

·Maximise proficiency with the database through training, development, and opportunities to network and share best practice with other charities.

·Become the team’s database expert, creating processes and procedures, being the first point of contact for colleagues with database queries and championing the use of the database among the fundraising team.

Team administrative support (15%)

·Manage our third-party donation platforms.

·Work with the fundraising team to maintain our stock of fundraising materials.

·Maintain Bendrigg’s website pages related to fundraising and supporter care.

·Contribute to the planning process for the team’s calendar of fundraising appeals and activities.

·Help the Fundraising Coordinator prepare for and deliver events and other community initiatives.

·With guidance from the Fundraising Coordinator, support with the induction and care of fundraising volunteers.

Office support (5%)

·Help the rest of the onsite Income & Engagement Team providing a 'reception' service including answering the door, greeting and signposting visitors, accepting deliveries, answering the main office phone and directing calls.

 

Further responsibilities (5%)

·Participate in the day-to-day work of the organisation – such as attending team meetings, producing reports and taking a flexible approach to general administrative duties.

·Complete internal and external training appropriate to the role.

Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey has been established for over 100 years.  We enable and empower people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, partially sighted, and deafblind to overcome barriers and to be as independent as possible.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Children and Young People’s Service.  The team enables and empowers children, young people and families to thrive, by providing a variety of vibrant and impactful services, activities and events.

This role would suit someone who enjoys and is skilled at supporting families to overcome barriers they face as a result of having a disabled child, including providing one to one support, practical assistance, and group workshops.  Candidates should have experience of working with children, young people and families in a support role.

Key responsibilities

· Ensure parent carers have someone to work alongside them to help to overcome barriers they are facing as a family as a result of their child/’s sensory impairment.

· Provide practical assistance (such as letter writing and attending meetings with a parent carer) where this is needed.  This will include assisting with the Education & Health Care Plan (EHCP) to ensure it accurately reflects their needs.

· To assess and identify when the needs of the children and their families are not being met and work with parents, other professionals, and organisations as appropriate to address the issues with the aim of ensuring that the children have the opportunities and environments that will enable them to reach their potential and achieve their aspirations.

· Reduce loneliness and social isolation for parent carers by both connecting them with wider parent carer support services, and by organising and facilitating opportunities for them to come together, such as through drop-in events at community café’s and parent led support groups.

· Empower and enable parent carers to have the knowledge, skills, confidence, and support they need to advocate for their child/children through organising group training workshops and development around specific topics, creating and sharing resources that will help, and through our Power to The Parents event.

· To support children and young people through transition from children’s services into adult services, engaging with SEND services and adult services where appropriate.

· To follow all policies, including those focused on confidentiality, equality, and diversity. 

· Keep accurate and up to date records of work completed and support provided.

· Create, share and store two anonymised case studies each month which demonstrate the barriers faced by families, and the impact of the service.

· To attend weekend and school holiday activities and events to meet and support the children, young people, and their families at a time that works for them. 

· Ensure the family support service is needs led and inclusive for all.

· Offers first line emotional support to parents and young people as they come to terms with their vision impairment/ multi-sensory impairment as appropriate and make onward referrals where appropriate for more robust assistance, such as through our counselling service. 

· To encourage parents to become involved in activities available to children & their families and to support older children to engage with the 11UP and Young Adults programme as age appropriate.

· To keep up to date with current legislation, local and national policies, research and services and to share these appropriately.

· To be proactive in safeguarding all children and adults from abuse, and report any suspected incidents of abuse, following our policies and procedures which link with the Surrey County Council Safeguarding framework.

· To undertake all mandatory training, and continuous professional development (CPD) 

· To represent the charity at external forums and as appropriate, attend meetings as a representative.

· To co-operate fully as a member of the staff team and to ensure good communication at all times including attending team meetings, supervision and annual appraisal.

· To complete any other requests, with appropriate training, to support the wider team and charity goals.

Person Specification

Essential

· Significant experience of direct work with families in a support capacity

· Experience of planning and managing own workload within established guidelines

· Experience of working in partnership with outside agencies such as the Local Authority and Education.

· Ability to respond professionally and reflectively in situations where emotions may be running high.

· Ability to problem-solve and respond in a practical way to issues that arise.

· Ability to produce own routine correspondence using/ creating standard letters

· Experience in facilitating groups and workshops.

· Excellent communication skills, with a range of audiences in a range of formats. 

· Advanced influencing skills.

· Ability to understand and react to the needs of vulnerable families.

· Ability to prioritise, and to work under pressure to specific timescales and targets.

· Knowledge, understanding and experience of working with safeguarding processes.

· Knowledge of the Equality Act and other relevant legislation, with the ability to acquire this knowledge pro-actively where it is not already in place.
