About the role

Finance Manager 
We are seeking a Finance Manager to join the growing Reaching Higher team and bring our finance function fully in-house. We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented professional who will play a pivotal role in ensuring strong financial systems, accurate reporting, and sound financial planning. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in financial management and governance, budgeting and forecasting, payroll and pension oversight, and the ability to provide clear strategic insight and analysis to support organisational growth and sustainability.

Purpose of this Role

Our finance functions are currently partially outsourced to an external contractor. Our income has grown significantly over the past five years and our Board have now decided to employ a Finance Manager and bring financial expertise in-house. In this new position as the Finance Manager at Reaching Higher, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and planning, payroll and pension management, and financial governance and compliance. You will support all aspects of Reaching Higher’s work and development through ensuring strong financial systems. 

You will work closely with our team to ensure that all day-to-day finance requirements are met, including accurate grant finance monitoring and reporting to multiple funders. You will also work closely with our senior leaders and board to build the charity’s financial resilience and the financial awareness of our wider team.

You will work closely with the Executive Assistant & Administrator and report to the Executive Director, as well as working closely with the Executive Team, Treasurer and wider Board. 

About Reaching Higher 

Reaching Higher is a youth organisation which works with over 2000 young people aged 9-21 each year across Croydon and surrounding boroughs. Developed in partnership with local churches, we are a youth-led charity with a Christian ethos and this role is restricted under basis of faith.We have a particular emphasis on providing mentoring support to young people and supporting their development as leaders. We have established strong links with key local, London and UK-wide organisations and our approach leads us into regular working contact with partner schools, community groups and churches.

Camp Jojo is a small/medium, but growing charity with a committed team of Trustees, Special Advisors, and Volunteers. This is a chance to contribute to a dynamic organisation and work in a supportive environment. In particular, Camp Jojo’s extension of its work to Nags Head Farm, Appleby, Cumbria, is new; with Open Days held in 2025, and the first camps to be held in August 2026.

The holder of this post will be critical to this development; working to establish a sister site in Cumbria to Ivy Farm on Mersea island, Essex, with a well tried and tested model of operations. The role of Nags Head Farm: Operations Manager (Families and Site Ops) is to offer leadership and administrative support to key functions of Camp Jojo at Nags Head Farm, and to members of the Camp Jojo Board, in relation to the camps held at Nags Head Farm.

The Contractor will handle clerical and logistics tasks for the organisation in a timely and efficient way. The primary task of the Nags Head Farm: Operations Manager will be to oversee family applications to the camps, and to maintain and develop data bases in support of this. They will hold a key role in relation to communications with the families pre-, during, and post-camps. In addition, they will attend and minute meetings, and contribute to camp operations in planning etc. They may need to work flexibly, according to the seasonal demands of the charity.

They will attend the first day (Friday) of each camp The Nags Head Farm: Operations Manager will have a varied and sometimes high-pace job environment. As such, they will need to handle multiple tasks, manage their own time well, interact professionally with the wider Camp Jojo community, and be very good communicators.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The role is responsible for delivering comprehensive HR support across the organisation covering recruitment, onboarding, training, and support for performance management and employee relations.  It includes managing volunteer processes and working closely with both internal managers and external HR and training providers.

The postholder will play a key role in maintaining effective HR systems, ensuring policy compliance and supporting a positive work culture.

Key responsibilities

· Managing end-to-end recruitment processes across multi-disciplinary teams, including: recruitment, onboarding, DBS checking, training and development, absence and performance management, and leaver processing

· Oversight of SCT’s volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training and administration in collaboration with SCT’s manager

· Working closely with SCT’s outsourced HR support

· Providing SCT managers with guidance on volunteer recruitment and any management issues

· Implementing, maintaining and reviewing an annual training plan for all employees

· Maintaining up-to-date staff files and HR system records including DBS validation, handling confidential employee and volunteer data in line with data protection legislation

· Supporting employee relations by assisting with complaints, grievances and disciplinary procedures including the provision of support to managers on all employee-relations matters

· Working with SCT’s Business Operations Manager to ensure accurate information is provided to SCT’s outsourced payroll administrators to ensure accuracy of all relevant information

· Supporting the ongoing review, development and improvement of clear, consistent and accessible policies and procedures across the organisation

· Working closely with SCT’s managers to promote the ongoing communication, implementation and participation in the review cycle of policies and procedures

· Undertaking other reasonable duties that may be required from time to time.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

· CIPD-qualified to level 5: significant HR management experience will also be considered

· 3+years demonstrable generalist HR management experience or similar role types – ideally in a small organisation or NFP

· Demonstrable experience of working across multiple sites

· Excellent communication skills both written and in person with the ability to adapt to a range of audiences

· Experience of presenting materials and report-writing to a range of audiences.

The ideal candidate

We’re looking for an experienced Facilities Manager to be our named competent person for statutory compliance; covering health & safety, fire, water hygiene, electrical safety and environmental standards. You’ll coordinate planned and reactive maintenance - liaising with external contractors, keep accurate compliance records, and produce clear, risk-based reports for senior management. You’ll work with a high degree of autonomy, escalating issues and key strategic budget decisions as required.
