PINF is the first charity in the UK that exists to support high-quality journalism. We exist at the cutting edge of charity law and need an experienced charity professional to make sure we do things properly.
As Head of Operations & Governance, you will be responsible for overseeing the back-office operations of the charity. You will be a key point of contact for the team and support the Executive Director to ensure smooth, efficient and compliant operations.
You will be a senior member of the team, responsible for ensuring that PINF operates within its legal and regulatory framework, including in relation to charity, corporate, tax, employment and data protection regulations. The role involves liaising with the Chair, Board of Trustees, Executive Director, legal advisors and regulators to support best practice in financial management, governance, risk management and compliance.
Duties and responsibilities

Financial Management

Ensure consistent delivery and quality of finance operations, including transactions processing, which will involve managing a bookkeeping service.

Prepare and monitor annual budgets, management accounts and project budgets.

Lead on the financial aspects of fundraising, contract management, and funder reporting. Including managing restricted and unrestricted funding.

Oversee the process of preparing statutory accounts, including liaising with accountants and auditors.

Maintain internal controls and policies to protect assets, prevent fraud, and ensure business continuity.

Participate in the Finance & Fundraising Committee and support the Treasurer to plan and deliver meetings.

Prepare financial reports for board meetings and engage in board discussions.

Governance

Manage our annual governance cycle, working closely with the Chair, Treasurer and Executive Director to ensure legal compliance and to plan and prepare for Board meetings including taking appropriate minutes.

Manage the organisational risk framework including identifying emerging risks and working with the Executive Director to mitigate them.

Companies House and Charity Commission filings.

Develop and maintain a suite of policy to ensure PINF meets its obligations as a charity and an employer.

Play an active part in board discussion to support good decision making.

Manage HR across the organisation; ensuring all HR processes and policies are fit for purpose, up to date and adhere to law, and are understood and implemented across the organisation.

Manage recruitment processes for all staff.

Manage the annual leave tracker.

Operations and administration

Ensure the smooth running of the organisation by leading operational planning and monitoring progress.

Lead on relationships and contracts with external suppliers and contractors.

Ensure PINF has appropriate insurance cover.

Requirements

A professional qualification in finance, management, law, or a related field and at least five years’ experience relevant to this role.

Deep understanding of good governance and best practice in the charity sector.

Understanding of relevant laws relating to employment, data protection and running a charity.

Sympathy to the aims and objectives of PINF.

Full professional proficiency in English.

Skills and attributes

Experience of managing charity finances and budgets (Essential). A related finance or accountancy qualification would be desirable.

Experience of managing operations in a comparable charity or business, with both strategic and day-to-day operational responsibilities.

About Us:
Strength & Learning Through Horses provides mental health and education support to some of London’s most vulnerable young people through offering equine assisted therapy and alternative education programmes. The organisation’s ability to deliver excellence in its service quality is dependent upon a skilled and competent workforce where learning and continuous improvement is a fundamental aim.
Strength & Learning Through Horses has been in operation for over 10 years and has grown year on year in terms of income and number of young people reached and number of services we offer.
We have 5 full time and 5 part time contracted staff members, 18 freelance staff members and work with 17 volunteers. 400 – 500 young people per year benefit from our life changing services; our hope is that this will increase to 700+ per year from 2027 once the building project at our site is complete. We have ambitious longer term plans for growth.
We have been operating in North London for over 10 years from a small stables, after our lease sadly came to an end in January 2023 we moved to our long term home. This was a derelict stables owned by the Council which we have secured via a 25 year lease. In 2022-23 we raised £300,000 to get the site usable as an equine therapy centre although it is still very run down with much of it boarded up an derelict. We now have full planning permission to develop the site and build a purpose built equine therapy centre which will allow us to double the number of young people who access the space.
About the Role:
To make this dream a reality we are looking for an experienced Capital Fundraising Manager to lead the Capital fundraising campaign for this project to raise £700,000 over 2 years in order to fund this build.
The hope is to raise £350,000 in year one in order to fund half of the build (stage 1) with the remaining funding being secured in the 2nd year to complete the build in year 2. We have a strong track record of fundraising including recently securing 5 years core costs funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and we have warm relationships that we can call on once this fundraising campaign gets activated.

Essential criteria
- 4+ years’ experience working in digital marketing, with proven experience of developing strategies and campaigns that deliver results against goals

Salary and benefits package
Starting salary: £37,620 (outside of London, with a £3k annual travel bursary)/£42,135 (inside London)
Holiday: 25 days/year (pro rata to 20 days per year due to the 4 day week), plus bank holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year.

Our client is looking for a Programme Manager with the ability to lead a team and manage multiple complex workstreams to join them in the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) data and training team.
JAG was established in 1994 to improve endoscopy services through clinical accreditation and develop training and support for the endoscopy workforce. You will be responsible for managing, leading and continuing the development of several projects, including;
- Endoscopy medical trainee certification (JETS)
- A training programme for nurses and other health care professionals (JETS Workforce)
- The accreditation of bowel cancer screeners (BCSA)
- The National Endoscopy Database (NED), which uses data from endoscopy services to support clinicians, services, and other bodies, to improve performance and provide a basis for research
- The utilisation of data from JETS, JETS Workforce and BCSA, to support endoscopy workforce development and growth.
About the role
You will work closely with internal colleagues, such as project teams in other accreditation and audit areas, as well as colleagues in finance, policy, IT, HR, and communications. You will lead and manage a team and you’ll have responsibility for and be required to work collaboratively with a broader team of sub-contractors and clinical leads. You’ll work closely with the JAG programme manager (Accreditation), to ensure that JAG continue to provide high quality services and support for the endoscopy workforce. The role requires you to ensure that workforce considerations and endoscopy data are effectively incorporated in the clinical service accreditation process.
