About the Role

The Co-Executive Director – Development & Impact will provide joint leadership for People’s Economy, inspiring and driving our team, community and partners to achieve our mission. Their focus is on building and strengthening the organisation by ensuring we have the systems, resources, knowledge and processes in place to scale our programmes and deliver our strategy effectively.

This is a generalist leadership role focused on building organisational capacity rather than holding deep specialist expertise in all areas. The postholder will instead assess what we need to strengthen the systems that support our programmes and make it happen.

Director of Finance and Operations

Akshaya Patra is one of the world’s largest school meals charities – nourishing 2.35 million children in India every day and now expanding our impact across the UK.

Our UK after-school programme, Empower Hour, provides hot, nutritious meals and targeted tuition to children growing up in poverty – extending the school day by 60 minutes to give them the fuel, support and enrichment they need to thrive.

What began in one school in 2024 is already serving ten, and – alongside driving continued expansion in India – we are now ready to scale our delivery to reach thousands more children across the UK’s most disadvantaged communities.

To help lead this exciting phase of growth, we are seeking a Director of Finance and Operations – a senior leader who combines strong financial stewardship with operational leadership and is motivated by purpose as much as performance.

You will sit on the Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the CEO, and oversee two core portfolios:

• Programmes – overseeing Watford kitchen operations, Empower Hour delivery and holiday hunger initiatives.
• Finance and Resources – leading financial planning and reporting, systems, compliance, HR development and organisational infrastructure.

This role will suit someone who enjoys both strategic thinking and practical implementation – someone who finds energy in building strong foundations and helping a values-led organisation grow well.

You may have built your career in charity, education, food provision, public services, the private sector or elsewhere – but you will bring:

• Senior-level experience across finance, operations or programme delivery.

Chief Executive Officer

We are looking for a visionary and compassionate Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the charity into its next exciting chapter, as Kids for Kids’ celebrates their 25th Birthday.

This is a unique opportunity to succeed our Founder and make a lasting difference for children and families facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

The Role

As CEO, you will provide inspirational leadership, overseeing all aspects of the organisations work in the UK and abroad, ensuring continued impact and growth. You will manage our fundraising programme, finances, and operations, as well as motivate and inspire a small but highly dedicated team and network of volunteers.

You will:

• Lead the organisation’s strategy, safeguarding its mission and values.
• Oversee all fundraising, awareness-raising, and financial management.
• Report regularly to the Board of Trustees, working closely with the founder as she transitions to her role as Chairman of Trustees.
• Be the public face of the charity, representing us at events, with donors, and in the media.
• Manage relationships with our Patrons, celebrities, supporters, and volunteers.
• Oversee major fundraising events including our Candlelit Christmas Concert, Gala Gourmet Dinner Dance, and 25th Birthday celebrations in 2026.

This role is central to ensuring that more children and families in Darfur can access lifesaving and sustainable support, enabling communities to thrive despite unimaginable hardship.

About You

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated leader with a strong track record of management, fundraising, and financial acumen. You will be values-driven and compassionate, with the ability to inspire others and build meaningful relationships at all levels.

You will have:

• Proven senior leadership experience, ideally in the charitable or not-for-profit sector.
• Strategic thinking skills with strong financial and operational management experience.
• Demonstrable success in fundraising and developing new income streams.
• Experience of working with Boards of Trustees and managing governance requirements.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience of acting as a public spokesperson.
• The ability to inspire, manage, and grow staff, volunteers, and supporter networks.

Desirable:

• Ability to speak Arabic.

You’ll bring professional credibility, a collaborative approach, and ability to provide clear advice at Board level. You’ll combine strong analytical skills with collaborative working style and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders balancing ambition and accountability while guiding and empowering your team.

A strong grounding in charity finance and governance, with a commitment to sustainable investment and innovation through digital transformation.

You’ll have:

• Senior leadership experience managing organisational finances and producing annual accounts
• A track record of shaping financial strategy in growing or complex organisations
• A professional accountancy qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA or equivalent) or equivalent experience
• Strong knowledge of charity governance, financial management, and accounting best practice
• Experience leading and developing finance teams

We’d particularly welcome:

• Experience in the charity, public, or mission-led sector
• A track record of driving innovation through digital transformation and new systems

To support people affected by macular disease now, the Macular Society provides a range of support, information and services. Our research programme is focused on finding new treatments and a cure to beat macular disease forever.

We are seeking someone who can support our Community Engagement team to ensure groups and group volunteers have the resources they need to thrive. The candidate needs to have an open and collaborative approach and the ability to multitask and prioritise multiple projects and work streams.
