JUSTICE is looking for an outstanding criminal lawyer, for a full-time fixed term 12-month contract, with the possibility of renewal, subject to funding. This provides an exciting opportunity for a practising lawyer with a strong research background or academic lawyers keen to engage in high-level policy and law reform work.

We are looking for a lawyer mainly interested in criminal justice, as well as in cross-cutting issues affecting the functioning of the justice system (current cross-cutting projects include work on the state of the rule of law in the UK and AI, human rights, and the law).

JUSTICE is at the forefront of work promoting access to a fair criminal justice system for all. The successful candidate will be building on our recent work on racial injustice in the youth criminal justice system and post-conviction decision making, including the parole system and administrative decision-making in prisons, as well as our cross-cutting workstream on the state of the rule of law in the UK. They will also be scoping and setting up a new criminal justice project relating to fraud.

We would like to recruit a bright, motivated person who is passionate about criminal justice system reform, and the promotion of access to justice and fair trial. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team. With excellent interpersonal skills, they will be able to work closely with JUSTICE members, who include senior figures in the legal profession. The post holder will work with our Interim Legal Director to further develop our criminal justice work stream and assist on system-wide proposals for change. This role is focused primarily on England and Wales, though it will touch on UK wide issues and the Scottish criminal justice system from time-to-time.

The JUSTICE team are currently working in a hybrid manner. Staff members have access to office space in London, however, attendance is currently optional. Our staff enjoy flexible working conditions, 27 days annual leave, plus the week between Christmas and the New Year, 8% employer pension contribution and access to an Employee Assistance Programme.

Responsibilities include:

Leadership, Strategy and Governance

• To be an active member of the Made in Hackney Senior Leadership Team, working together to galvanise the organisation behind our strategic plan.
• To contribute to strategic discussions on the future direction of the organisation.

Fundraising and Development

• To work with the Partnerships Manager to secure Fundraising income from individual givers, major donors, Crowdfunding campaigns and other fundraising initiatives in line with our annual target (likely to be in the range of £200k).
• To develop and execute an annual fundraising strategy: building a sustainable portfolio consisting of grants and donations from individuals, corporates, trusts and foundations, to ensure long-term sustainable funding of activities.
• To research and prospect future funders.
• To maintain precise and up-to-date records on current and potential supporters and prospects.
• To create engaging fundraising communication tools.
• To establish partnerships for joint programmes and funding bids where beneficial.

Donor stewardship & reporting

• To retain current donors and maximise fundraising opportunities, including delivering a programme of appropriate stewardship opportunities with the core team.
• To work with the team to co-design programmes and their evaluation requirements to ensure the organisation meets the grant funders' requirements. 
• To complete reporting to grant funders, including developing report templates, creating reports, case studies, and other administrative requirements. 

Communications

• To input into MIH’S communications strategy and the planning and implementation of improvements to marketing plans, digital presence and social media strategy to ensure impact and fundraising successes are communicated
• To maintain a stock of impact-focused case studies and success stories and ensure fundraising successes are communicated on social media and online.
• To ensure the robust monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and campaigns; providing key input to the annual report and impact report.
• To coordinate fundraising events with the Community Partnerships Manager. 

Line Management

• To have direct line management responsibility for the Community Partnerships Manager and Social Media & Marketing Manager, creating a supportive environment for growth and development.

The Director of Operations will work as part of the management team to develop and implement the organisation’s strategy and operational plans and to build the longer term sustainability of the organisation. They will be required to deputise for the Chief Officer in their absence and assist in the overall management of the organisation. As part of the management team the role demands a high level of flexibility, initiative and commitment. The role also involves working with the Chief Officer to design and improve our monitoring, evaluation and learning across the organisation in line with our new strategy.

The Director of Operations will have lead responsibility for overseeing the day to day operations and coordinating external partnerships and relationships. Operational oversight includes the two core pillars of work:-

1. Streams of Sanctuary programmes and awards (by streams we mean mainstream sector e.g. schools)
2. Coordination and development of network of refugee supporting groups

About You

We are looking for someone who wants to make a positive contribution to the work of the Property Support team and be equally comfortable collaborating in a team environment or under your own initiative.  You will preferably have experience supporting a senior team within a property function and preferably have some experience in a property or project management type function.

As the role will underpin and contribute to supporting the team’s work with external colleagues, particularly the District Property Officer network, it is essential that you are comfortable in engaging with a range of stakeholders, and have excellent organisational skills, particularly in terms of resourcing and training.

Duties and key responsibilities 

Leadership, Collaboration & Line Management 

• Support the Director of Operations through preparation for and reporting to governance meetings. 

• Participate actively as a member of the Leadership Team. 

• Provide leadership, direction, training, and motivation as appropriate to the UK Finance Manager, and the overseas Finance Managers in conjunction with overseas Directors. 

Finance Policy & Process Management 

• Be responsible for monitoring compliance with MAP’s financial and procurement policies and review and update these policies on a regular basis. 

• Develop and implement strong cash and treasury management policies and procedures. 

• Manage and develop all financial accounting systems in consultation with the Head of Reporting to ensure they are fit for purpose. 

• Help to ensure value for money and the effective use of funds across the organisation. 

Compliance & Regulatory Reporting 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with the external auditors. 

• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the annual statutory accounts for the annual audit and implement recommendations from the auditors and/or Board. 

• Monitor institutional income and related contracts and ensure that all restricted income, including Zakat, is properly accounted for. 

• Ensure the financial management of MAP is compliant with relevant accounting, legal, HMRC and tax requirements, including VAT and corporation tax, and that the correct returns are made. 

• Submit the necessary returns and maintain our records with the Charity Commission and Companies House on a timely basis.

Cashflow & Bank Account Management 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with MAP’s banks in the UK. 

• Maintain UK bank accounts and ensure financial governance is in place for overseas bank accounts.

• Ensure bank mandates and online banking operations are reviewed and updated on time. 

• Monitor and manage the organisation's cash flow to ensure there are sufficient currency funds to meet operational needs. 

• Review fund and payment  requests from overseas offices and that planned activities are within budget. 

• Release all payments from UK bank accounts, including UK payroll. 

Financial Controls 

• Implement appropriate internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect against fraud and misappropriation. 

• Oversee and manage all payroll budgets and forecasts. 

• Oversee the payroll functions, ensuring adequate internal controls and approvals are in place and adhered to, and all statutory requirements are met. 

• Ensure regular reconciliations are made between the accounting system and the CRM. 

• Oversee legacy administration liaising with the Legacy Advisor. 

Risk Management 

• Risk management – manage strategic and operational financial risks working with the Head of Internal Audit & Compliance.

• Maintain insurance policies across all MAP offices to ensure appropriate and adequate risk mitigation and meet statutory requirements.

AFK (Action For Kids) is a national charity helping young people with disabilities to develop their independence and find employment. Our vision is a world where all people living with a disability get to lead the life they choose.  As part of this we provide bespoke employment skills and organise work experience placements across North London.  At a national level, we provide mobility equipment not available on the NHS for disabled children and young people up to the age of 26.

Job Purpose

To support young people aged 18+ who have disabilities and/or are neurodiverse to gain employment. The role will be to primarily liaise with businesses and employers to broker new opportunities for supported and unsupported employment.  You will also work with a small caseload of young people, assessing their employability skills. You will work closely with the Employment & Skills team to place young people from the Employment Coaches caseloads into employment, as well as locate some voluntary roles and work placements. Hours:

This is a full time position of 37.5 hours per week over Monday to Friday.

From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing.

During the four day week pilot, working hours for this position will be reduced to 30 hours per week, spanning Monday to Thursday, with no reduction in salary. This will be a temporary change to the contractual terms with the successful candidate. The appointed person must be prepared to increase their working hours to 37.5 hours per week if a return to a five-day working week is decided.

Primary Duties:

• Hosting donors at events - inviting them to protests and other events, such as our legal challenge against the use of Frankenchickens, and making sure they are well looked after.

• Prospect research - identifying, researching and assessing potential new major gifts prospects, and then developing cultivation plans for further engagement.

About the role

The London Library is looking for an Acquisitions and Discovery Assistant to assist in the acquisition and management of Library E-resources and print resources.

The role includes supporting the successful acquisition and seamless delivery of electronic resources to library users, utilising and maintaining relevant library systems and records; assisting purchasing decisions and supporting licensing, ordering and payment processes; verifying access, liaising with suppliers & Library IT, and ensuring correct metadata is presented to users; plus monitoring resource use and collecting data for the evaluation of subscriptions.
