This is a senior leadership position for a dynamic fundraiser with a strong track record of securing income from a wide range of sources, including major donors, trusts and foundations, and corporate partnerships. This individual will join a successful team and work closely alongside another Philanthropy Manager to steward and cultivate existing supporters as well as manage a pipeline of prospects through their giving journey. You will work directly with the Head of Fundraising and be responsible for your own portfolio of major donors, trusts and family foundations. By August 2027 Bookmark aim to have reached 500,000 children with our literacy programmes, you could be part of that incredible goal.
Job Description
Delivering the Philanthropy plan
- Work with the Head of Fundraising and existing Philanthropy Manager to grow the major donor portfolio within the wider strategy
- Build and maintain a portfolio of existing and new major donors who give or can give £15,000 or more, ensuring a first-class cultivation and stewardship journey
- Line manage the Philanthropy Executive and support their professional development, providing direction, support and guidance
- Work with our Fundraising Research & Administration Intern to identify new potential Bookmark major donors, working with Trustees, senior stakeholders, and our wonderfully supportive Partnerships Board to secure introductions and make asks of prospective supporters
- Design and deliver creative events and activities to generate income, cultivate and steward donors
- Create compelling, relevant and tailored funding proposals, reports and collateral to inspire and inform donors, reflecting Bookmark’s strong brand. The could include Trust and Foundation applications.
- Use Salesforce to manage the accurate recording, progression and forecasting of major donor relationships, enabling efficient reporting and KPI management
Work with the rest of the Fundraising team
- Work closely with the rest of the Fundraising team to ensure opportunities to maximise income for the fundraising team
- Devise and deliver annual plans, together with associated budgets, in line with the charity’s strategic objectives
- Work with the Senior Leadership Team, Chair of Trustees and colleagues across the charity to ensure major donor fundraising activity is aligned with the charity’s wider plans and objectives
- Ensure that all activity helps to build Bookmark’s brand and is always brand compliant

Person specification
Essential
- A successful track record in high value fundraising and acquisition, including a proven track record of securing five figure gifts
- Experience working towards and meeting, or exceeding, fundraising targets
- Experience developing relationships with high-net-worth individuals through all stages of the donor cycle
- A demonstrable ability to build internal relationships and use senior stakeholders (CEO, Trustees, Senior Leadership Team) to help progress major donor relationships
- Experience working on successful charity events that meet fundraising targets
- Great verbal communication skills, demonstrated by strong relationships with donors and colleagues. You will have the skills to influence, motivate and persuade people to donate
- Demonstrable experience of writing successful, inspiring, emotive, and technically accurate cases for support and proposals tailored to a major donor audience
- Experience growing and managing a pipeline, planning for your portfolio and increasing income
- An understanding and ability to build budgets and work with financials

What you’ll do:
- Research, prepare, and submit high‑quality funding applications to trusts, foundations, and statutory bodies.
- Build and manage relationships with funders and corporate partners, creating tailored proposals and partnership opportunities.
- Monitor grant budgets and ensure compliance with funder requirements and fundraising regulations.
- Support marketing and communications for fundraising campaigns and coordinate corporate fundraising events.
- Engage with the people we support to ensure their voices are represented positively and respectfully in bids and reports.
What we’re looking for:
- Educated to A‑Level standard or equivalent, with strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- Proven experience in charity fundraising, including successful grant applications and corporate partnerships.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to craft persuasive proposals.

- Institute of Fundraising (IoF) qualification

What the job involves
Our Events and Community Fundraising team raises vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK through a wide range of activities, events and challenge events. As Senior Community Fundraising Executive, you’ll be a key member of our sector-leading team, raising over £5 million each year from individuals organising their own fundraising events and local-level corporate partnerships.
You’ll work closely with the Community Fundraising Manager to identify, test and develop new opportunities across our community fundraising programme, supporting our ambitious five-year strategy and growth plans. You’ll project manage mass-market fundraising campaigns to recruit, convert and inspire community fundraisers, working in partnership with colleagues and external agencies to brief, plan, deliver and evaluate paid marketing activity.
A key part of your role will be to design and own supporter journeys that use innovation, technology and personalisation to deliver an exceptional supporter experience. You’ll develop and maintain fundraising resources and incentives, making sure they’re effective, easy to use and continually improving. You’ll also be hands-on with supporters, building relationships with some of our top fundraisers and corporate partners to deepen engagement, strengthen loyalty and help them maximise their fundraising.
What we want from you
You’ll bring experience working in community or events fundraising, with a clear understanding of what motivates supporters and how to give them an outstanding experience. Confident in managing multiple projects at pace, you balance creativity with excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail. You thrive in a varied, fast‑moving environment, taking initiative and using insight to guide your decisions.
Your communication skills will really shine. You’ll write warm, motivating messages that connect with people at every stage of their fundraising journey, and you’ll be confident speaking with supporters; whether that’s one-to-one, in front of a group or over the phone. Personable, proactive and empathetic, you’ll build trust quickly and represent the charity with professionalism and passion.
You’ll be comfortable with digital marketing campaigns and using data to evaluate activity, spot patterns and make improvements. You’ll have experience using CRM systems to record accurate information and you’ll take pride in delivering high‑quality work. You’ll also bring sound judgement when handling sensitive data or supporting fundraisers taking on deeply personal challenges.

How and where we work
Colleagues attend the office at least four days per month (pro rata for part-time colleagues) to collaborate, build relationships, and support projects and decision-making. You can choose where to work the rest of the time. Travel to the office is a commute, so we pay our own travel costs.
Additional in-person attendance will be required during your first few months for induction and training, to support you to learn the role and get to know colleagues.

We’re now looking for an experienced leader to step into a senior interim role, providing stability, leadership and momentum across our engagement activity during a period of transition.
This role will lead all of our mass fundraising and engagement activity, including Individual Giving, Legacies, Community & Events Fundraising, and Supporter Care. It is a senior, influential role shaping how supporters experience Mencap, how we grow income sustainably, and how we build long-term relationships rooted in trust and shared values.
As part of the interim remit, the role will also provide operational oversight and support to our High Value Relationships team, working closely with the interim Executive Director of Fundraising and other colleagues to ensure continuity, strong performance management and clear oversight of income and KPIs during this period.
You’ll bring strategic vision and clarity, alongside strong operational judgement. You’ll know how to turn insight into action, how to use data intelligently (without losing the human touch), and how to lead teams through change with confidence and care. You’ll be comfortable holding performance, using financial and KPI information to support delivery and decision-making.
Just as importantly, you’ll recognise that our supporters aren’t just numbers or segments – they’re individuals who care deeply about our work and want to feel connected to the difference they’re helping to make.
You’ll lead the place where Mencap’s fundraising brand, proposition, and voice really come to life, designing experiences, appeals, campaigns and supporter journeys that reflect the voices and lived experiences of people with a learning disability and show the world why our work matters.
This is a full‑time role (37.5 hours per week), offered on a 9‑month fixed‑term contract, with flexibility on location.
