Job role
We’re looking for a Head of Early Years to lead and grow a key area of our organisation. This is a strategic leadership role with hands-on responsibility for driving high-quality provision and expanding our Early Years offer across Birmingham and Coventry. You’ll oversee our existing nursery while leading the development of up to four new settings in line with our five-year growth plan. THE CHARITY
Suicide is the leading cause of death of men under 35 and three quarters of those who die by suicide are men. James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.
James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it.
James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected. We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 4,300 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need.
In early 2026 we will be opening our fourth centre in Birmingham. Our new centre in Birmingham will be there to support suicidal men living in the West Midlands.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are recruiting for a team of clinicians to deliver our clinical proven intervention at our new James’ Place centre in Birmingham, due to open in early 2026. As a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist, you will work alongside the Head of Centre to manage and support the clinical team in delivering our unique intervention and co-producing effective safety plans to maintain their safety. You will be an experienced mental health professional or therapist with demonstrable interest in suicide prevention and team management and leadership. You will support men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis and their supporter(s), delivering our unique intervention and co-producing effective safety plans to maintain their safety. Successful applicants will be joining a new team at a pivotal time and will have the opportunity to shape the local culture at James’ Place Birmingham. Training and support will be provided by the Head of Centre in Birmingham and the wider James’ Place team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Senior Clinical Duties
- Work as a duty therapist to triage and assess suitability of James’ Place referrals daily
- Take full clinical responsibility of the men under James’ Place care, as a co-leader of the clinical team and in consultation with Head of Centre
- Lead and support peer support sessions, caseload discussions and reflective practice with the team
- Create an environment in which confidentiality, privacy and dignity are respected and be clear with clients about limits of confidentiality
- Lead on the creation and facilitation of a Peer Support Group once James’ Place Birmingham is well-established
- Deputise for the Head of Centre when required
Clinical
- Conduct initial Welcome Assessments with men in a suicidal crisis, assessing risk and the suitability of the James’ Place intervention and co-producing effective safety plans
- Deliver our therapeutic intervention, building trust and exploring the reasons for crisis
- Use the Lay Your Cards on the Table intervention to encourage men to talk about and explore their feelings, attitudes and behaviours and develop positive coping strategies
- Escalate care to appropriate services when necessary, including emergency services and secondary mental health teams
- Deliver one-off guidance sessions to supporters of men under the James’ Place care
- Work collaboratively with other professionals to coordinate comprehensive care
- Undergo clinical supervision with a qualified supervisor to reflect on clinical work and raise any issues or concerns arising from work
- Remain up to date with developments in law, theories and research
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
- Complete session notes in a timely and effective manner
- Participate in continuous professional development and engage in training provided both internally and externally
- Support the Clinical Administration team as and when necessary
Leadership and Management
- Manage, support and lead Suicide Prevention Therapists, encouraging staff to develop and grow
- Conduct regular probation reviews, monthly 1:1s and annual appraisals with staff
- Conduct therapist case reviews to ensure work is completed safely, effectively and in accordance with James’ Place policies and procedures
- Confidently identify and sensitively communicate areas for development and conduct performance management reviews when necessary
- Demonstrate and promote self-awareness and regularly dedicate time and space, inside and outside of work, to keeping yourself and the team well
- Provide support to access training and other developmental activities
- Support staff wellbeing
Outreach and Engagement
- Work alongside the Head of Centre to actively increase contact with local community organisations able to refer to us or offer move on support for men completing our intervention
- Support the fundraising team to bring potential supporters into our building and showcase our work, including the facilitation of events

PERSON SPECIFICATION
The role requires someone with a relevant qualification who can confidently lead a team and support men experiencing a suicidal crisis. You will need to be able to effectively conduct risk assessments and deliver our clinically proven therapeutic intervention to ensure client safety. Strong therapeutic communication, the ability to work autonomously and teamwork skills are also essential to this role, as well as the ability to build trust and hope.

Qualification(s)
- A Core Profession such as Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker, counselling or practitioner psychologist registered with NMC, HCPC, or Social Work England
or
- Accreditation as a psychological therapist, psychotherapist, or counsellor registered with BACP, UKCP, BABCP or equivalent, or have completed training and awaiting accreditation
You must hold a relevant qualification to be considered for this role.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Communications Coordinator will play a key role in shaping Animal Equality UK’s public voice. The postholder will ensure all outgoing content, both digital and print, aligns with our brand, values, and mission.
This role will lead on paid digital marketing and lead-generation activities to grow our supporter and donor base; oversee video production; manage website content; optimise organic and paid reach; support SEO strategy; and ensure consistent day-to-day engagement across our social media channels.

About the Role
We are looking for a motivated major gifts fundraiser to join our small fundraising team to contribute to our ambitious goal to raise £20 million across 4 years – our Be the Spark campaign.

Citizens Advice Camden, part of the national Citizens Advice network, is a thriving local advice charity that provides information, advice and casework support to 10,000 individuals and families per year.
Role Purpose
The Income Maximisation Adviser role has been developed in partnership with Camden Foodbank and the Trussell Trust, to provide tailored advice and support to individuals accessing food assistance from Camden foodbank, and those identified as at risk of destitution.
The service aims to tackle the root causes of financial hardship and help households maximise their income. This includes delivering specialist welfare benefits advice to ensure clients receive all entitlements, supporting them through mandatory reconsiderations and appeals, and assisting them with applications for grants and other financial support.
Key elements/Tasks
- Interview clients sensitively and effectively to deliver individually tailored advice which empowers clients, whilst providing in-depth casework support when needed.
- Provide information, advice and casework through face-to-face meetings, by email and telephone to ensure clients’ needs are met.
- Conduct benefit entitlement checks, assist clients in claiming their full entitlements, and provide support to challenge incorrect benefit decisions.
- Support clients in claiming grants and discounts to maximise income and help stabilise household budgets.

About the role
Sightsavers are seeking an experienced Project Coordinator to be responsible for the programmatic management and implementation/delivery of the Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP) and Disease Management and Disability Inclusion (DMDI) targets under the Reaching the Last Mile (RLM) MMDP ELMA/EFLA (Eliminating LF in Africa) DMDI projects in Uganda.
As the Project Coordinator MMDP you will deliver the programme targets and work closely with the Ministry of Health NTD Program to help with impact assessment and advocacy for the elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis in Uganda and health system strengthening. You will also identify and contribute to programme growth and development in collaboration with partners and colleagues.
Further responsibilities include:
Strategic Programme Planning and Development
-
Participate in strategic planning processes to successfully drive the direction and delivery of cost-effective services for MMDP and ensure the objectives under RLM ELMA/ELFA are met and contribute to the national policies and elimination goals in Uganda.

In collaboration with partners and Ministry of Health, help develop strategies to address the hydrocele and lymphoedema cases in Uganda as part of efforts towards elimination of NTDs in Uganda.

Provide leadership and guidance to the programme to ensure that MMDP maps are available to help track and ensure that patients get counselling and treatment/surgeries.
-
Deliver on Facility assessments - Hydrocele Facility Assessment (HFAT) and Lymphedema Facility Assessment (LFAT).

Support patient estimation and uptake using WHO recommend approaches for patients' identification.

Coordinate the planning, budgeting, progress tracking of both plan and budget and reporting of RLM ELMA/ELFA MMDP activities in Uganda.
Programme Management
-
Provide effective management, coordination, technical advice and resource allocation necessary to support delivery of MMDP/DMDI (hydrocoele and lymphoedema) under RLM ELMA/ELFA funding.

Support NGO partners to establish and maintain effective relationships with the Ministry of Health and other partners in order to advance sustainable national plans and integrate them into the existing public health delivery systems.

Support implementation of Social and Behaviour Change Initiatives for Lymphedema and Hydrocele Management in Uganda.

Oversee the surgical and self-care supply aspect of the MMDP through surgical supply of Filaricele Anatomical Surgical Task Trainer (FASTT) materials, provision of FASTT Training Package, washing kit for lymphoedema management (using lymphoedema calculator).

Provide support for surgical delivery of hydrocoele and lymphoedema MMDP/DMDI from provision of management and surgery to case reporting, supervision and post-surgical data review and analysis.
Monitoring and Evaluation

Lead on supporting each implementing partner in developing a system for
monitoring and evaluating programme performance.

Provide direction and support to assist country research teams and help them to identify operational research opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of NTD elimination efforts.
Advocacy and Strategic Alliances
-
Build and maintain meaningful working relationships with a variety of partners and other stakeholders at national level to strengthen opportunities for advocacy and higher visibility.

Ensure programme information flow is maintained across the Sightsavers’ country teams and directorates, the Ministries of Health and other key partners.
Skills and Experience
As the successful candidate you will have experience, and/or a post graduate degree, in Public Health, Medical/Biological/Social Sciences or related disciplines, and have extensive experience on strategic programme development. We are also keen for the post holder to have a wealth of experience in programme/ project management in an INGO environment.
Further requirements include:

Technical knowledge on Lymphatic Filariasis and any other Preventive Chemotherapy NTDs in Uganda.

Experience of managing and community-based health interventions.

A demonstrated record of accomplishment in developing and managing public health programmes.

Understanding of the health system in Uganda.

Experience of monitoring and evaluation (including ability to conduct and supervise impact assessment in one or more of the five PC NTDs).
