About Care4Calais 

Care4Calais is a volunteer-led charity delivering essential aid and support to people seeking asylum living in the UK and Northern France. We provide direct aid and advocate for a fair asylum system, including safe routes to claim asylum.

The UK Direct Aid team delivers essential support through practical services; such as running distributions, delivering English classes and casework-style support through drop-ins. The UK Direct Aid team also provides services to promote wellbeing such as trips and sports activities.

Volunteer Role Description

We are looking for empathetic and motivated people, who are committed to welcoming people seeking safety to join our volunteer teams across the UK. We have volunteer teams across the UK so there will be a local group you can join.

What you will receive: 

• Comprehensive training to equip you in your role; including safeguarding training, Induction Training, Activities and Distribution Training and Boundaries and Resilience Training.

• Opportunity to develop skills, including casework, networking, and interpersonal skills

• Greater understanding of the UK asylum system

As a volunteer, there is a range of activities you can choose to get involved in, depending on the area you volunteer. Some activities include:

• English classes/ conversation clubs 

• Drop-ins - help with requests and signpost to support.

• Distributions - provide essential items like clothing, shoes, toiletries. 

• Sports - activities like yoga, football etc. are a great way to improve wellbeing, and for people to connect with others.

• Trips - organise trips to places such as the park, cinema to help boost mood and give people time away from the hotel.

• Wellbeing activities - sessions like crafts and cooking are popular. 

• Workshops - help with housing once someone receives Leave to Remain; familiarise people with life in the UK.

• Events - mark specific days or holidays to get people together and celebrate. 

• Media/ Press/ Engagements - as a volunteer, you may be asked to share a story for our social media or help someone with lived experience to share.

• Remote working - support with tasks such as contacting Migrant Help, assisting individuals to register with GPS, researching local support, or general admin. 

Care4Calais strongly encourages people with experience of the asylum system to apply, and recognises the specific value that lived experience brings to an organisation.

As an Office Volunteer for Breakthrough T1D you will be working closely with our Scotland fundraising team in our Aberdeen office. The role will be varied, and you will be supporting the team with a wide range of general administration tasks and various tasks to ensure everything is kept up-to-date and deadlines are met.

What will I be doing?

• Day-to-day administration tasks such as emails, phone-calls and filing.
• Assisting in the delivery of our 40th Anniversary Ball which includes research into finding potential sponsors and prizes. 
• Managing the Scotland inbox replying to supporters’ emails.
• Creating, updating and maintaining records on Donorfy.
• Other data entry tasks.
• Assisting the wider Events team where necessary on tasks such as phone calls, monitoring inboxes, research and general admin.
• Working within the framework of relevant legislation and good practice guidelines for fundraising activity, including complying with requirements of GDPR and other regulations applicable to active events and supporter data.
• Undertaking other duties and ad-hoc tasks consistent with the post.

What skills or experience do I need?

Essential:

• Administration experience.
• Experience and confidence in speaking on the phone to suppliers and supporters.
• Experience of research for booking things for events.
• Experience of working as part of a team.
• Experience of writing emails and copy.
• Skilled at developing and maintaining internal and external working relationships at all levels.
• Ability to work well under pressure, prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent organisation skills with good attention to detail.
• Experience of using a recognised database.
• Ability to develop ideas and be creative.

• Outgoing, confident, friendly, positive and professional.

Desirable:

When do you need me?

3 – 4 hours a week, from November/December 2025 to June 2026

Breakthrough T1D normal working hours are 9.00am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. However, we operate a flexible working hours policy and will agree these with you in advance.

What training and support will I receive?

• We’ll send you a copy of our Volunteer Handbook, which will give you all the information you’ll need to know about volunteering with us. We’ll also ask you to sign and return a copy of our Volunteer Agreement, which sets out what we’ll do to support you, and what we expect from you, during your time volunteering with us. 
• We’ll ask you to read and sign our Data Protection and Confidentiality Policy, and our Safeguarding Policy. 
• You’ll receive training in any role-specific systems, and ongoing support from the Senior fundraiser and the wider Scotland Fundraising team.
• We’ll give you a laptop and a Breakthrough T1D email address to use while you’re volunteering with us.
• We’ll catch up with you regularly to check how you’re getting on and to talk through any queries you have about the role. 
• We’ll also reimburse all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses in accordance with Breakthrough T1D volunteering policies.

About Kith & Kids
We provide activities, opportunities, information, and support for people with a learning disability or autism, their parents and siblings.
For all our projects and activities we are dependent on volunteers.

Our Xmas Project
9.30am to 5.30pm, Sat 27th - Wed 31stDecember, north London.

We are currently looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers, to join us on our fantastic fun-filled Xmas Social Development Project.

Volunteers and our members who have disabilities get to know each other as they take part in fun and challenging workshops including sports & games, arts & crafts, cooking and enjoying a day out in London.

What you'll do
On the project you and a fellow volunteer will be paired with one of our members with a learning disability or autism. You'll support and encourage them to take part in a wide range of activities led by professional therapists and workshop leaders.

Our core activities are sports & games, arts & crafts, drama, and music. Previous additional workshops have also included photography, football and cooking and you’ll plan your own exciting outing around London with a fellow volunteer and the Kith & Kids member you're linked with.

Not only is it a time full of fun and games for you and our members, but you are also a vital part in supporting our members to develop their social skills in a day-to-day environment.

Requirements

What you need
You do not need experience. Full disability awareness training will be provided before you begin volunteering with us.
The only requirements we ask of you are enthusiasm, energy and to be open-minded.
Minimum age for volunteers is 18.

How much time?
The project runs for 5 days, 9.30am to 5.30pm, Sat 27th – Wed 31st December.
Everyone gets the most out of the project if you come for the full five days as you'll build a close relationship with the member you'll have been supporting and will create the most impact.

We'll also provide excellent training before the project, and lots of helpful support.
