The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) is a charity and membership society that has been dedicated to improving tropical medicine and global health since 1907.

We are looking for a motivated individual to join us as Team and Office Assistant, effectively supporting the small but busy RSTMH Team by providing proactive and comprehensive support across our key areas of work.

The role will require someone who preferably has some experience of providing support and administration to a busy team (preferably within the charity/not-for-profit sector), who is flexible, has excellent time management skills and is able work on own initiative. The successful candidate will be working across various RSTMH activities, including membership, journals, events, Early Career Grants, and communications; therefore, they will need to be efficient and organised, with strong computer skills and a professional outlook.

The Role:

• To develop and maintain effective working relationships across RSTMH
• To ensure that all general, email, telephone and written enquiries are dealt with efficiently and promptly
• To support with the management of the RSTMH office and office processes
• To undertake electronic and paper filing, and maintain filing systems appropriately
• To support with team planning, scheduling and social events and activities 
• To assist with the management and promotion of the RSTMH meeting room
• To support with financial administration
• To support the planning of RSTMH events, including handling delegate registration enquiries via telephone and email, collating event packs and materials, and conducting desk research on the cost and availability of venues and caterers.
• To attend RSTMH events, assisting with Zoom support on online events, and assisting as necessary at in person events.
• To assist with the administration associated with the RSTMH Early Career Grants programme, which includes analysing key data and helping produce reports for the team, our Committees and donors.
• Taking a role in the processes to select grant awardees including helping perform due diligence on the potential awardees
• To support the Communications Manager in scheduling and sourcing content for social media
• To support on the website by uploading and editing content through the CMS
• To help create and send the fortnightly member newsletter and the monthly non-member newsletter
• To support the Communications Manager in creating content to be shared across RSTMH communications channels
• To assist with communications planning
• To be responsible for the general administration and upkeep of RSTMH’s online opportunities platform, grow
• To support with strategies to increase members of RSTMH
• To assist with enquiries from current and prospective members in a professional, timely manner, and to agreed service targets.
• To support with membership management, ensuring data is up to date using CiviCRM
• To provide support to the managing editor for Journal-related tasks
• To ensure that all assigned tasks are completed to a high standard
• To participate in team meetings, planning and initiatives
• To assist in any administrative tasks to support the team and wider RSTMH community
• To undertake any other reasonable tasks as could be expected of a Team and Office Assistant

Essential Technical Skills:

• Ability to manage a diverse set of priorities and meet deadlines to a consistently high standard
• Capacity to set up and maintain administrative processes and office systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong understanding of delivering great customer service
• Experience of being responsible for initiating, planning, and developing own areas of work

• Experience providing administration support, preferably in an office environment
• Good analytical skills with the ability to identify key points from complex material or information

About the role:

This is a great chance to be a part of a service working alongside the Healthcare & Education Department within HMP Bronzefield to identify and support women who are identified as being neurodiverse and will be returning to the community. Of that cohort, the Advocate will focus support on women with a mental health need and improve their transition into the community, with ongoing community support; including collaborating with other healthcare professionals to their develop support plans.

The Senior MH Advocate will work in a multi-disciplinary way, including attending the weekly complex case meeting and/or the Safety Intervention Meeting (SIM) as appropriate, they will act as a specialist member of the wider Minerva Criminal Justice Service - London team, to facilitate a pathway for women with complex needs including mental health and neurodiversity needs. The Senior Advocate will create a link between prison and the community, helping women to navigate support services and to positively re-integrate into their community upon release. They will co-design a person-centred support and action plan with women accessing support, enabling to support them to address their needs and any risks. The role will combine a casework- based approach, along with a signposting and advice service for the women.

The Senior Mental Health Advocate will be based in the community and will provide a drop-in service (1-2 day per week) in HMP Bronzefield to support women who are close to release. The role will also include line management of other advocates such as; Specialist Prison & Probation Advocates who will be based in the prison and the Loss & Bereavement Worker who will be providing support in the prison as well as in the community.

A car may be desirable for this role, though not essential

About You:

To be successful as the Senior Mental Health Advocate you will need the below experience and skills:

An excellent understanding of mental health, neurodiversity needs violence against women and girls and its links to women in the criminal justice system

Experience of managing/supervising a team of advocates/caseworkers – and leading a team to achieve targets & outcomes as well as appropriately managing and leading the team on any safeguarding concerns/incidents.

You will have the ability to complete trauma informed, support and action plans in collaboration with the woman; to support in addressing their multiple and individual needs and enable them to engage with services, which will result in timely and prescribed outcomes being achieved.

You will possess excellent organisational skills, excellent communication skills and be able to work in a prison environment whilst remaining calm.

The Role:

You will be joining at an important time for our team, covering a crucial role in ensuring accurate income processing, reporting, and financial management across the organisation. As part of the Finance team, you will work closely with colleagues across departments, particularly alongside our fundraising team, to ensure income is correctly coded and reported efficiently.

Militaries are major contributors to the climate crisis but it remains unclear how large their greenhouse gas emissions are because reporting under domestic and international frameworks is often voluntary or incomplete.

Since 2021, CEOBS and our international network of academic and civil society partners have played an important role in drawing attention to this data gap. Our Military Emissions Gap project works to communicate the scale of the reporting gap, to mainstream the topic in climate and military spaces, and to help create the conditions whereby the emissions from military activities and armed conflicts are properly documented and understood. We work with a wide range of stakeholders, from militaries, academia and the media, to policy makers and peace groups.

Research is vital to the project, underpinning all of our advocacy and awareness-raising activities and, thanks to recent grant funding we are now in a position to create a dedicated post for the project.

The role

You will work with our Climate Advocacy Coordinator, Director and academic partners to produce and contribute to unique research on military and conflict emissions, military-related climate impacts, and comparative studies on civil mitigation and decarbonisation strategies. The position is an excellent opportunity for an inquisitive, creative and conscientious environmental professional, with sound climate literacy and experience in carbon accounting, environmental reporting standards, and ESG policies and performance.

Core responsibilities

• Monitoring the rapidly evolving landscape of military climate mitigation strategies and reporting.

• Keeping up-to-date with emerging good practice on carbon and environmental reporting standards.

• Identifying research opportunities and generating and implementing research projects, both independently and in collaboration with partners. 

• Contributing to the development of advocacy campaigns.

• Engaging with our diverse range of collaborative partners, including militaries, government representatives, NGOs and academics.

• Seeking new networking opportunities and relationships.

• Representing CEOBS at domestic and international events.

• Providing support to the Climate Advocacy Coordinator.

• Following relevant environmental trends and dynamics and their intersection with the military sector and climate change.

Essential requirements

• A good degree in the field of environmental sciences and a minimum of 5 years experience working as an environmental professional.

• Demonstrated experience in carbon accounting. 

• Be able to demonstrate technical ability and the capacity to remain updated with emerging issues and standards. 

• Proven research skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to communicate complex topics clearly to different audiences.

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and comfortable engaging and networking with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The key responsibility will be to manage contracts and relationships across the councils that have received funding for additional Empty Homes Officers (EHOs) to bring empty homes back into use at scale. You will work closely with the existing Partnership Officer role that focuses on providing support to the existing network of EHOs.

Role specifics 

As Partnerships Coordinator, you’ll take the lead in managing new contracts with councils, meeting with key stakeholders to agree terms and supporting the development of detailed project plans with clear milestones. You’ll chair regular advisory group meetings to monitor progress, identify and address any emerging issues, and work collaboratively with councils to find solutions. Promoting the role and impact of Empty Homes Officers will be central to your work, as will providing hands-on support through best practice sessions and tailored training, developed in partnership with the SEHP team.

To succeed, you’ll need strong experience in stakeholder and project management, confidence in delivering CPD and training, and the ability to build productive, trusted relationships. A proactive, solutions-focused approach is essential, as is a solid understanding of Scotland’s housing policy landscape—experience with empty homes work or local authority systems will be a distinct advantage.

About the team 

The Scottish Empty Homes Partnership Team are made up of 10 staff members. Led by our National Manager, we have a Communications, Policy and Projects branch of the team. This role falls within the Projects team.

The Scottish Empty Homes Partnership is funded by the Scottish Government and works to four overarching outcomes to bring privately owned empty homes back into use:

1. Strategy: A strategic approach to bringing empty homes back into use is adopted across the country, enabling better targeting of resources and tracking of progress to bring more empty homes back into use.
2. Capacity: Local authorities, and other organisations with a focus on housing delivery, are able to evidence the benefits of employing dedicated empty homes officers.
3. Skills Empty homes officers undertake continuous professional development, and new officers receive consistent training to ensure they are fully equipped to undertake the role, leading to improved delivery.
4. Advice: More empty homes are delivered back into use through clear, consistent advice and support to empty homeowners and anyone else impacted by empty homes.

With a high percentage of customers supporting our work in Retail, you’ll participate in a weekend cover rota, allowing service to our shops and stores to be delivered. Working hours needed to deliver these services are 35 hours/week – staggered in accordance with the support rota.

Working arrangements

This is a fixed term contract covering an internal secondment.

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office. 
 
At BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, approximately three days a week. Working hours needed to deliver these services are 35 hours per week covering a rota schedule (the team cover 8am to 6pm every day).
 
The role will also participate in a weekend cover rota allowing service to our shops and stores to be delivered. This will be in the region of 1 weekend in 4-6.
 
About you

With previous service desk experience, having working in the SD environment previously, you'll have excellent customer service and communication skills, being used to working in a busy service desk team. You'll also have excellent telephone and customer handling skills to back up your technical and fault diagnosis experience. 

You’ll have strong troubleshooting skills, keeping the Customer informed of progress against their respective issues, ensuring an effective follow-up to ensure all service has been delivered and completed to the Customer's satisfaction.

With good knowledge of Windows OS (Win 10 and above), you’ll also have knowledge of LAN/WAN networking essentials and extensive experience of MS Office suite of Applications (2010 and above). You’ll have previous experience with administration of Users within Active Directory and Remote Support Tools (i.e. VNC, RDP etc.).

You'll have good knowledge of ticket and case management techniques, able to manage your own queues and workload to meet demand. You’ll be able to remain calm and focused, and will have strong organisational skills, able to use prioritisation and escalation techniques, and able to develop strong working relationships with the team and contacts across the organisation.

Role Overview 

We are seeking a proactive, strategic, and driven individual to lead our grant and bid writing function while also developing and managing relationships with corporate donors and partners. You will work closely with senior leadership to secure vital income through trusts, foundations, and businesses that align with our mission. 

Key Responsibilities 

Grant & Bid Writing (50%) 

• Research and identify suitable funding opportunities from trusts, foundations, and statutory bodies. 

• Write compelling, evidence-based grant applications and funding proposals.

Funded by the Department for Education, the National Peer Support Service for England is a game-changing service that creates a sustainable and life-changing legacy. It builds on Kinship’s 10 years of experience in developing peer support groups and over two years of delivering a national service that has set up 145 new groups.

This role is community-based and focuses on engaging kinship carers, bringing them together to form peer support groups, and supporting them to achieve independence at which point they will receive ongoing support from our national Hub.

You will need to understand the key success factors involved in establishing and developing new in-person groups in areas of high need, as well as how to support existing groups in their journey toward sustainability.

An essential requirement of the role is to be a driver with access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Essential requirements include:

• Experience of team leadership or line management and supervision of a small team and managing performance to deliver targets effectively.
• Proven experience in reaching and establishing strong relationships with hidden or underserved communities in person.
• Experience developing peer support communities.
• Proven experience of recruiting, managing, training and supporting volunteers in community settings with an emphasis on understanding and working with vulnerable volunteers.

The Director of Finance & Governance is a key member of Helen Bamber Foundation’s Management Team and plays a pivotal role in designing and delivering the organisation’s strategy and approach. Your priorities will include providing strategic leadership in developing and managing finance and leading on several governance systems and functions, as well as directly leading on specific strategic projects. You will contribute to the development and implementation of a strategy to secure the organisation’s  long-term financial health and growth, enabling us to deliver our vision and mission. Together with your Management Team colleagues, you will create an environment, culture, policies, processes and practices which ensure the Helen Bamber Foundation Group is an exemplary place to work.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Strategic leadership and management

Reporting to the CEO, and working closely with the Management Team and the Board, the Director of Finance & Governance will have responsibilities to:

• Work collaboratively with Management Team colleagues to provide operational leadership and development for the whole organisation, building our capacity and capability to deliver our strategy. 
• Work with the CEO to develop robust governance systems and infrastructure that will strengthen accountability, and support growth and deliver impact.
• Lead, manage and develop the Finance Team supported by the Senior Finance Manager.

• Conduct strategic financial planning to support the decision making of the Management team, Board sub-committees and the Board, and report to the Board as appropriate working with the Executive Team Assistant in this regard.

• Oversee and regularly review and update the organisational risk register, including financial and governance risks..
• Act as strategic lead on processes, systems development and internal controls.

Finance oversight and leadership

• Oversee all aspects of finance to enable effective day-to-day running of the Helen Bamber Foundation group and to support the continuous improvement of employee experience.
• Finalise annual financial statements/periodic financial reports (where required), and provide them to the CEO, Board and Board subcommittees for consideration and approval.
• Lead on the Helen Bamber Foundation Group audit process, working with the external auditors.
• Ensuring all statutory and non-statutory reporting requirements are met.
• Lead on budgeting and reforecasting across the organisation, supporting and challenging other teams to predict income and expenditure and make sound financial decisions, presenting to the Board and Board subcommittees.
• Support organisational planning by developing the systems to enable teams to model potential future work - e.g. costs of expansion of an existing programme or modelling potential new programmes and projects.
• Oversee the production of management accounting information, including internal monthly management accounts, quarterly reports for the Board, and financial reports for funders. • Ensure compliance with agreements and contracts in relation to banks and external service providers.
• Monitor and report on the overall funding status, and ensure the timely reporting on grants is well supported.

• Support the preparation of applications for fundraising. Conduct financial analysis and review of existing and proposed strategic programmes, projects, and campaigns, contributing to decision making in this area.

• Oversee staff payroll, handling of petty cash and banking of donations, management of activity fees and credit control process.

Governance

• Work with the CEO and Executive Team Assistant to ensure that governance arrangements are fit-for-purpose, compliant and embody the spirit of partnership which defines the Helen Bamber Foundation Group.
• Support the Board and Board sub-committees, producing papers, and monitoring actions.
• Manage the organisational risk register including updating and monitoring of actions and Board discussions.
• Work with the Board to continue the development of outstanding governance policies and practices.
• Work with the CEO to develop and evolve the induction and training schedules for Trustees.
• Act in the capacity of Company Secretary.
